Of the large group of uncontracted Suns two key defenders stick out, Rory Thompson and Henry Schade. Rory is a GC local, Henry is a 196cm Tasmanian who is being kept out of side by May and Thompson. No shame in that.

Would be worth a chat, you'd think. Certainly, no shame in being behind May and Thompson.
I enjoy their delusional opinions and meltdowns. :D

You're excused then.

Essendon would want two first rounds picks for Carlisle and about three established players. :drunk:

There's a reason why no other clubs deal with the injectors when it comes to trading. They overrate their players. Look at what they wanted for Ryder last year.

Essendon players might find they'll get where they want for very little fuss if they agree not to sue the club for negligence.

It was a very convoluted deal in the end....However, the short version as summarized on page 201, of the 2015 AFL Record Season Guide goes:

Shaun Burgoyne; Draft History....2009 Draft; Traded by Port Adelaide for NO'9:Andrew Moore & NO'16 Jasper Pittard.:)....Which, was essentially what all that convoluted BS was about satisfying.:thumbsu:

Happy to oblige Brishawk.;)

That's a summary of what Port gained out of the entirity of the trade, obviosly Jay Nash not included. It doesn't adequately descirbe what we spent. To say, and I'm not saying you are, but plenty do, that we gave up pick 16 is inacurate. We never had pick 16 in insolation as it was part of a greater deal with many moving parts. As always, the detail tells way more than the elevator speech.

At least there's one thing about that deal we can all agree upon....We were the winners big time.

Got - nor had any issues at the time - in us 'facilitating' 2 first rounders, he was worth it....When you look at the 2 average footballers Port got in return, then it's difficult to argue to the contrary.

Anyway, the point was that 2 late first round picks at around 20 apiece for Carlisle, would not be 'overs' by my estimation....Assuming that is the path the club chose to pursue, having done their due diligence....However, if it appears inevitable that the Bombers players will incur a 2 year ban, then quite obviously, we wouldn't pursue that option....I rate the lad highly.

It's quite ironic how the 2 biggest 'gambles' we've made at the draft table this century, have incurred the largest howls of protest at the time. And yet, both transactions have had the greatest impact & reward insofar as delivering us the ultimate prize!

Fortune favours the brave....And we have been the bravest & the boldest at the draft/trade-table for a while....Looks like the Dogs have learnt that lesson also.

Shem is on the rise!
Now that's something I'd like see.

Strip 5-8kgs off him and build his tank...

Old school ruck rover plus+.

Should be following Mitch around to develop some smarts in close and we could have a 198cm HUGE J.K on our hands with better tackling aggression than Shiels

Am I the only one who doesn't want to go near Carlisle? Jeez, I'm fairly certain he will be after the best part of 600-700k and I would have thought that type of cash could be used elsewhere.

I'm comfortable with our defence, chip will continue to develop the Hawthorn way and we have Gibbo/Lake/Spangh who will all go on next year with Gibbo and Spang another 2-4 years. This gives time to draft and/or develop what we have in the 2s, however if the club go for Jake I'll get right behind it.

Is anyone else concerned about our young mids? I was really hoping to see one of Langers/Jedi/JRourke announce themselves. I'm wrapped with Shiels, he's starting to get recognition outside of our club to which is great, he is definitely my number 1 for next captain.

Simply not worth that much. First and second round? Maybe. 2 first rounders are overs.

We have something big brewing and the statement by Andrew Newbold that we would not be tipping any equalisation tax money into the hat if the AFL didn't pass the notion for all clubs to be allowed to trade future picks from this trade period on should not be underistimated.

My gut feel is that we have made a competitive offer to Dangerfid and have a handshake agreement with the Crows that we would give them our first pick in the 2015 and 2016 drafts as a minimum if they match our offer and Danger accepts ours.

If this is off the mark then I think we definitely have our sights set on another blockbuster trade...not just anybody but someone in the elite or potential elite category.

Why would our club trade 'as a minimum' our next 2 first round draft picks for a player we can get for free under FA?

Perhaps Danger has done the right thing by his current club & forced that they be compensated by his future Club.

See bud, it's not that hard...

‘This club is f---ed!’: Jake Carlisle’s remarkable outburst during Essendon’s loss to GWS

ESSENDON is confident of keeping Jake Carlisle despite three remarkable outbursts in the past three weeks from the disenchanted key forward.

Carlisle vented his frustration in Round 18 against the Western Bulldogs, against Greater Western Sydney the next week when he was rotated to the bench and again on the field towards opponents on Saturday against Adelaide.

Clearly frustrated with the club leading up to this week’s move on James Hird, Carlisle let rip against the Giants.

I quite like him now, we have a lot in common.

On his day, That is one of the things that gets me worried. He lacks consistency. As you said his mobility is a great strength for someone his size. Maybe a first rounder + swap our 2nd rounder for their third rounder. That is what we gave up for O'Rourke
We gave pick 9 & Williams for Burgoyne. Is pick 9 and 16 what Port Adelaide got in that complicated trade?
In fairness, given the last two years, how could any player be consistent at Essendon? Especially when one coach says you should play forward and the other says back and they play a tug of war with you. At the right home Carlisle has the potential to be a superstar. Whether he works hard to achieve his potential will only be known in another 2-3 years.
