Not really it was pick 9 and Williams....we never had our hands on pick 16.

Burgoyne was proven elite material ...apart from his knee issues which had kept him out.

Yeah....But how sweet was it screwing over Essendon in getting pick 16 for Willo.;):thumbsu:

Not as sweet as what has transpired today. :):straining:
From memory I think Port gave up pick 24 or 25 to Essendon, whilst Geelong also gave a pick up in the early 30's
It was never a straight swap of pick 16 for Willow...it was more of a downgrade of 8 spots.

Not true. Besides. Burgoyne is and was at the time an AA gun player. Carlisle is a promising but yet to really deliver KPP with a 2 year ban hanging over his head.

Technically it is true....The deal involved 3 clubs (Us, Bombers & Cats)....Check the draft history if you like.

The only way I'd sanction the move would - of course - necessitate no significant ban.

Gibbo was hardly a world beater nor was Hale. Carlisle will benefit from coming to the best system/club in the land! We have enough up and coming youth Imo. Howe, jor, Jed, langers, Gus, heathers, Sicily, Hartung, doc, hill, miles are all either raw, have ability or untried. No different to lot of other clubs. Key forward will be a ongoing concern 2017 onwards. Plus with the expected improvement of Lynch, Dixon, Boyd, jezza Cameron, Patton etc... We have ourselves a 8 year key back who can clunk a grab forward or back! At 24! As for drug infractions? I'm hearing a strong word out there that the players won't get any more than 3 to 4 weeks. Now though, it may get a little uncomfortable for Sammy!;)

I'm not a lawyer, but as far as I can tell there's NO WAY this will happen. They're either found guilty and suspended for a considerable amount of time, or alternatively are free to play.

I'd also suggest that WADA has far more integrity than any of the tribunals this has been through so far and the "strong word" that you may be hearing is based on nothing other than wishful thinking. These guys won't make up their minds until all the evidence is presented.

No, we never held pick 16. We didn't trade Williams for pick 16. It was part of the deal but there was never a time we could have chosen pick 16 and 9 over Burgoyne.

We won't know for sure the ban situation by trade weeks.

Port insisted on 2 first rounders for Burgers & wouldn't budge unless we satisfied their demands by coming to the table....They were delivered picks 9 & 16 & we got Burger....End of story!

Under the agreement ultimately thrashed out, Hawthorn gains Burgoyne, giving Port Adelaide pick nine and sending Williams to Windy Hill. The Hawks' picks 40 and 56 both finished up with Geelong.

The Power gains two first-round picks - No. 9 and Essendon's No. 16 - as well as out-of-favour Bomber defender Jay Nash, who will return to his home state, losing only its 26-year-old star midfielder.

Essendon receives Williams, pick 24 from Port Adelaide and Geelong's pick 33. This leaves them with four choices in the first two rounds of the draft, and minus Nash, pick 16 - which they had gained from St Kilda for Andrew Lovett - and 42.

The Cats' late involvement - recruiting manager Stephen Wells was called from the mediation meeting after 6pm - saw them switch pick 33, their second-round choice, for selections 40, 42 and 56.

Cost them the 2013 Prelim.:thumbsu:

Carlisle is keen on a good $$$ contract

Carlton are offering more than we would offer him

Can't imagine we'd recruit a bomber knowing that it could be an empty spot on the list for 2 years

Those things tell me we aren't chasing Carlisle

Could Carlisle play forward/2nd ruck in Hale's role?

With Roughy & Gunners as mobile bigs & Breuster / Cyril as mobile med/smalls he could fit in quite well. Would need to ruck 5-7 mins per quarter to help Big Boy get through. Also means we get another year out of Lake (FB) as Brand & Kiwi transition.

Wait, is he the one that cries when played FF or is that Cale Sooker?

Either way, if he can't play FF yet then he's got 2 years to learn the role;)

It was a very convoluted deal in the end....However, the short version as summarized on page 201, of the 2015 AFL Record Season Guide goes:

Shaun Burgoyne; Draft History....2009 Draft; Traded by Port Adelaide for NO'9:Andrew Moore & NO'16 Jasper Pittard.:)....Which, was essentially what all that convoluted BS was about satisfying.:thumbsu:

Happy to oblige Brishawk.;)

Burgoyne had already proven that he was elite material ...apart from his knee issues which had kept him out.

And boy do I remember the outcry on this board when we gave up what we did for Burgoyne.

Basically I'm not going to get into exactly what I think Carlisle is or isn't worth as I have not had a good enough think about it yet but what I will say is if we listened to the majority on this board we wouldn't have used pick 45 on a 120 KG Dew, we wouldn't have given up a top 10 pick and player for Burgoyne on one leg and we wouldn't have traded a pick for a 31 year old half cooked Brian Lake..... All of those decisions if not made could have led to our last flag being 1991 still....

This needs to be stickied so we can point people to it when the Burgoyne trade comes up every 5 minutes.

On his day, this kid is the best mark of the footy league-wide....And is the most mobile 200cm KPP going around.

We gave up picks 9 & 16 for Burgoyne.
On his day, That is one of the things that gets me worried. He lacks consistency. As you said his mobility is a great strength for someone his size. Maybe a first rounder + swap our 2nd rounder for their third rounder. That is what we gave up for O'Rourke
We gave pick 9 & Williams for Burgoyne. Is pick 9 and 16 what Port Adelaide got in that complicated trade?

I presume most of the AFL salary cap cash comes from TV rights. If so, then from 2017 there will be a big increase in caps for all clubs/players. In the past has this increase been applied across the entire playing group (e.g. Flat % increase on all existing contracts?)

I'm wondering how that increase will effect cash being offered for FA's come end of this season. Will Danger be offered $2m per season back ended 2017+? Will we see our ageing champions go around again in 2017?

I've not read anything yet that discusses how the new TV deal effects players.

So I guess getting Carlisle will effectively push Lake out the door. Still think we should be looking for mids at this point, we have a few players with a year or two left in them and no standout replacements are this stage. An Aish or O'meara would be a very good get.

They did get that but also gave up Pick 24

If you want to believe it, that is fine by me.

Whether Carlisle is worth a pick is beside the point. No way we are giving Bombers high picks to help their rebuild.
It's about helping us ....the av age of our backline is 76 and we need to sort that NOW !!
Jake is a 23 yrs old 198/100 kg player who can play FWD or back who will help fast track our backline rebuild .
To us he's worth gold .
Also keep in mind from 20 -23 this kids development years have been Severely hampered by the going drug Sarga , plenty of upside here imo
