I agree he'll be a good pick up if he comes and will have more of an immediate impact on our 2016 chances than Anderson likely could. Just mildly concerned about Carlisle's motivations not aligning with Hawthorns or that it's just a cover for his real motivation (ie. money).

I trust that if Clarko speaks to him that the right decision will be reached.

I think your concerns are right on the mark, however, he was able to wag the dog because of the shambolic state Essendon found itself in. At Hawthorn, with the people that inhabit our magnificent club, he will be no more than a very talented player required to fill his role. You won't hear him speaking, or leading, or any such thing. Just playing CHB in a veeeeery polished fashion for the team.
As far as looking for money, I don't hold that as anything untoward from a player.
He'll get what were willing to pay, and no doubt will be told as much by Clarko, or the deal won't go through.
If he comes through the doors he's an absolute brilliant get for the club.

Ha that is a nice tantrum, deal hasn't even gone through yet. Remember Carlisle chose your lot, not hawthorn. We are madly trying to sway him right now apparently. Tell me more about how equalisation is relevant.

I don't think he'd come to us for a forward role. He really was disinterested in it this year, and his form last year dropped when shifted forward.

As a forward, his kicking was awful as well, and we have better ones there.

Only use for our team, is to play him in defence.

we play under the same rules as every other Vic club...we dont get the advantages of the Swans...it is not our fault we are good and better than your club....your club needs to learn from hawthorn and try and get better...alternatively come to the family club....the cats have half a team from other clubs and no ones complaining as they shouldnt if teams have the same cap and rules

Salary cap wise, unless you know how much everyone is on, it's tough to tell. Carlisle might even demand less money if he joins us as we have the lure of the premiership.

That is exactly the point. You can continue to offer unders from a financial perspective and blokes will cop it because you keep winning GF's, have better facilities, more business opportunities post career etc. As football becomes more and more professional the smaller clubs are well and truly screwed. I don't expect you to understand what this feels like.

FWIW, it is totally not your fault. You are operating within the rules and you are doing it with aplomb. Just highlighting that equalisation is a complete farce.

No way. We instantly replace Lake. The draft is speculative after pick 30, rather we take some speculative types late with picks 37 and 38 give them time to develop. We don't need to add kids that'll instantly push to be best 22. We have O'Rourke, Sicily, Langford, Hartung, Litherland, Miles, Howe and maybe Whitecross if he stays. Willsmore and Webster will start pushing for games also, and when Woodward overcomes his knee he will as well.

As I said on our board, as much as I hate the Hawks, at least they are serious when they see/want something in a deal to get it done.


I still think it will just pressure the Saints to offer up pick 5. But, I think it begins to show what JC is worth on an open market.

I do understand your point, but it'll take many years to reap the benefits of change and equalisation. The powers that be at Hawthorn made decisions back in 2001 and then again in 2004 which the fans and general public thought were bad decisions. 14 years later, they're now hailing them as the greatest choices made in the modern era.

We were a basketcase back then, and not many people thought we'd ever get out of it. Now we look back and can't believe how much has changed so quickly.
