Good luck to him for having more of a footy career than I ever will, but Kane Mitchell isn't AFL standard. I barely watch Port and I've still seen him lose them multiple games of his own boot.

As for Whitecross, happy for him to get another year, and by all accounts a great club man, but I think even his pre-knee best only made him a fringe player. He's pretty vanilla, without any clear elite side to his game. Certainly has the ability to play a role, but he'll have to improve, or others will have to drop off for him to be playing regular games in the firsts.

So let me get this straight, we wan't to pick up depth, dud depth to cover injuries etc.......here's a thought regarding depth, play our god damn kids.
Holman Watson Mitchell....WTF

Depth :
Mids: Whitey, O'Rourke, Langford, Howe Simpkin
Defenders: Litherland (HB) Brand (KP) Heatherley HB/KP)
Forwards: Sicily (HF) O'Brien (KP)
Ruck: Fitzpatrick and Pittonet

Majority of these guys need game time.......
Exactly

Hawks1988 won't like that, he doesn't like having depth. Everyone has to be best 22 lol

I think he just struggled with carlton, could be worth a shot. if you make it to afl level there is always hope and potential. Just my view
Ha!

I think he just struggles with football.

Do you think other boards are as keen on delistees as we seem to be? Or is it just what we do in the Hawk board?
Our quiet trade period has some worried we haven't improved, or we will go stale, completely forgetting the youngsters waiting at Box Hill are all better than any of the delisted players from rivals

His 'best' wouldn't have got him a game in our last 2 GF teams. He'd need to have grown a foot or found a yard of pace to force out others.

What he did have was a good tank & a knack for turning his opponent during contests; &, with the reduction of interchanges in 2016, he could well become a valuable squad player (20-26 etc). Far more so than Pick 60-something in this year's DRAFT would likely be & clearly only requires a 1-yr commitment whereas a new DRAFTEE must be signed for 2.
You're kidding right? He did his knees in finals both times. Would have held his spot and played in both GFs.

The one thing that concerns me and a few others, particularly after the Box Hill GF was the lack of pace in some of our youngsters, maybe Im making something out of nothing though

I see. Not good for him then. I recall he went alright in a few Roo games. Highly rate youngster in his draft year. What a shame. Good luck to him.
Yeah on talent he would certainly have a place on any list. But surgery on both ankles in successive years plus other issues make it seem to me his body is not up to AFL. I think if he goes to VFL and proves he can make it through a season he could be picked up next year.

Not saying our youngsters will get us to the ultimate, but they are more of a chance than delisted guys mentioned here

Not to mention the expected improvement to come from the mid 20s players.

Shoenmakers looks like taking the next step and he would be a weapon if he did. Shiels, Smith, Gunston and Bruest should step up to become elite (if they weren't already) and Rioli could be absolutely anything.

Who from our premiership side (Lake, Suckling and Hale aside obviously) would be making way for the Box Hill players? Hartung and Ceglar should become regulars in place of Suckling and Hale. Guys like Howe and Sicily look like pressing but who comes out?

'Stale' is a word that shouldn't be used. Lake is the only concern for me.

Its 2017-18 when I can see the output from the 4 or 5 old guys dropping off, this draft is an ideal one to go to the kids.
