Looking at how we drafted last year and this year. SOS has clear intention on what positions to bring in in which drafts.
Last year we draft KPP which so desprately needed, This year we drafted Mids and fwds with speed and good foot skills. also something we need.

If we look ahead a year with our ageing midfield of gibbs, murphy thomas, palmer ect SOS would be targeting mids next year.

surprised at some picks this year and the Alex silvagni pick up but can see the reason behind it as well.

Good draft, last yrs was better due to the high picks we had. but we wont know how good any of these players will be for 2 - 4 yrs.

also believe our team is better then what it was last yr. SOS is doing a great job so far. Up to bolts now
I think that the name James Worpel would be high on the list of mids that SOS is chasing next year!

Pickett is a very well spoken person, from a very a high achieving family, mother is a lawyer, father was also something pretty impressive IIRC. Pickett is also very strong on trying to break precived stereotypes
Think this a great move by the club, it would only be for a year or two, while the boys settle in, particularly in this early part of there careers.
As the boys settle in and adjust they can get hopefully one day buy there own places or move in with other team mates that they've formed friendships with.
This is a good call

The sentiment underlining your statement is: "I don't care how we win, I just want to win."

It is very understandable.

But it is wrong. BB has quite rightly said "It is not about wins. It is about process".
The idea behind this is that wins will come if the process is right. Part of getting the process right is to NOT to take short-cuts to "success". Rebuilding means rebuilding.
While I am all for a process, not all process'es are equal. MM tried to intsill a process, albeit a ridicilous one, and where did that get us?
You can claim to be building a better and swisher version of a CRT TV, and could legitemately be proud of yourself because you got it to work but umm, Cathode Ray Tubes are obselete.
A process needs to be effective and not neceserally just working.

We absolutely need a hard bodied, blooded AFl backup to plug crirtical spots in case of injury. AS doesnt need to play out of his skin, but just play his role.

I would hate to see our boys getting the shiete kicked out of them week in week out nek year beacuse we have a few injuries with our elder players.
Its all well and easy to say kids will learn and improve with every single game they get but also equal to say they may get seriously scarred with any or multiple beltings. Its called self esteem.....or just plain ol human nature

Pickett SPS and La Bois will live in same house Pickett has settled in well with girlfriend and also lost 5kg
lemme guess,
Pascoe Vale? seems half the CFC live in PV, not that that is a bad thing, have bumped into 1AWalker a few times at the Coburg Safeway

Did the same.

Started a business and kids arrived at the same time.

FMD what a nightmare!!!!!

The end of life as I knew it.
Yeah not the best idea I've ever had Funk.
Dealing with bad payers & crazy hormone lady at home is not my idea of fun!
Some of my best jokes over the past 5 years have been wasted on a pregnant lady, they just don't get funny :(

...

I would rather see our structure fall to pieces because say JGM or Macreadie coming into the side aren't up to it because then they and we KNOW where they/we need to improve to move up the ladder. In Watson's second game for us we were pitted against Dawes and Cloke at the MCG. The Pies kicked to whichever forward Jammo wasn't on (Thornton was on Leigh Brown) and had a picnic. If he could have learnt from the experience it would have been a great learning experience for Watson. He couldn't and was, eventually, moved on. ...

Watson 'saved' his career with 3 goals at full forward in the draw against the *. Played the next year for the Northern Blues, and delisted.

I've been posting the same for some time now.

Completely agree.

Getting belted every week stints development - not enhances it.

We need to give the guys the opportunity to implement the game plan and at least be competitive every week - that's when proper development will take place.

Not to mention the growing trend of the successful teams cherry picking good emerging players from struggling teams.
"Why play for those losers, when you could be playing finals with us?"

This seems like something that the club has helped to arrange, would that be right?

I keep forgetting we recruited Pickett, he's the forgotten man in all this elation.
very true - the new cuningham

Interesting to think if we placed 3 white recruits in a house there would be no questions.

But that's only because the vast majority of the players are 'white'.

Let's not be overly sensitive it's not like i'm being racist here...i'm just curious as to why the club has clearly put the 3 indigenous recruits together on purpose. It's obviously not a coincidence.

If they think that culturally they are more likely to bond and help each other settle into the Melbourne life style then great.

Should try living in QLD. I was shocked when I moved it. Its deeply engrained in all classes here. Absolutely shocking.

I have to concur. If half of the things that were said - and accepted - in QLD were uttered in Melbourne the speaker would be floored. It's almost as though parts of QLD are 50 years behind the times. Sad.

I went out with my sweet female Turkish friend on Saturday evening and the looks of disgust we got were shameful.

I am asian and here in Melbourne people and friends would comment that i'm such a 'white asian'...as in i speak and act like an aussie since i was born here. It's really not offensive just an observation.

I do have to claim that I see your point. When I moved back to Australia from the USA I boarded with an Asian family (they had an entire part of a house empty so rented it to me). The way they explained it, they had lived here for years, there were two types of Vietnamese in Australia. Those who had been here for years and those who were 'fresh off of the boat.' They looked down at the newbies.

I would suggest that the way you are phrasing your question and perspective can be be perceived as being (unintentionally) racist. It's more so that your worldview is shaping the way that you write which works against the accepted perspective.

I did see the living arrangements rumour and wonder how that will play out.

Is it usual for clubs to have three completely new and very young players live together?

And I have to confess that the fact they are indigenous also made me wonder had that happened before?

Pretty sure FTR has just tried to post a similar question , just a little clumsily.

Maybe more a Matt Rendell moment than a Pauline Hanson.

Imagine the speculation if Tuohy, Byrne and Sheehan had of moved in together ;)
Could it just be that just the 3 indigenous blokes got along quick, felt comfortable and wanted to share a place?

Three more things stand out then from this draft:
1. The experts' view that we've drafted kids who can run and kick is great.
2. Their interviews on CFC TV suggest an awareness of the hard work that lies ahead, coupled with great enthusiasm.
3. I was hoping to hit the draft with 5 top 30 picks and was disappointed that we didn't. But we may have just ended up with a similar haul given the shifting draft values of guys like Macreadie, Kerr and LeBois.

We may take a step backwards next year on field, but I am even more certain this year than last that we are tracking in a great direction.
Also seems to me to be genuine enthusiasm as opposed to other years.

ALL of the new recruits looked a lot more comfortable in front of Camera and gave more than the usual "Yeah, Nah, I'm just happy to be picked up by an AFL club" type response. SPS certainly showed shyness but also courage in front of the Camera, pushing himself to elaborate on his answers instead of just giving the minimum. Kerr looked pretty relaxed, like he's been doing it for a while, and Macreadie looks like he's jumping out of his skin to get into it.

Was particularly impressed with how Polson and Fisher spoke too; they seemed quite at ease in front of a camera. We'll probably see that a whole lot more as we all get older and younger generations become so used to being filmed and involved in media etc.
