As fate has it Goddard and Strnadica fit our needs for the future well, and are also WA lads. Won't have an immediate impact but drafting rarely does. McCarthy, Hooker or Hogan are the immediate needs options and we will go hard for them. I am more hopeful than confident about getting any. I am also still hoping Apeness can help us out.

None of our forwards are kicking goals. Not just Mayne. Pavs kicked 8 or so and he's the main focal point. Walters 10. Ballas 7.

I get that he isn't performing as well as he should be. I still say we don't have the cattle to lose him and Pav and be in a better position in the forward line.

What kids? Keeping in mind that if Pav and Chop go, you need 2 players to replace them and even Pav hasn't been able to do it on his own the majority of the time for the last few years.

Replace Pav with Yarran and Mayne with??? Crozier already in the side with both and we are still struggling. If Crozier is the replacement, who goes into his spot?

We don't have the depth in the forward line to drop these players.

Pav won't play next year. Mayne has kicked 3 goals 7 from 13 shots. That should be at least 7 goals.

You are probably right, short term losing Mayne will hurt us, but short term does not matter.

I would rather get games into long term players and hope they can help us win a premiership.

And Mayne 3. 10 in 5, 8 in 5 and 7 in 5 are all better than 3 in 5. Mayne should be the first to go, kills our momentum every time.

Agree with this one mad please read.

Agree he should be at least 7 goals. Got the yips bad and that sucks.

The point I am trying to argue is, which long term players?? Who do we put into the forward line in placeof Pav and Mayne keeping in mind that Crozier is now already in the team?

The future is not as bad as some people think. We have 5 years to find a full back and a CHF assuming McCarthy signs.

Perhaps I a being a bit optimistic with a few players but in 5 years the 3-4 players that don't make it will be replaced.

Team 26 and under

C: Stephen Hill Harley Bennell Lachie Weller
HF: Hayden Crozier Taberner?? Shane Yarran

Agree, he should play next week but we be able to get a 2nd round pick for him then I would do it.

It is nothing personal, it is simply will he be part of our next premiership. For me that answer is no, and he has some trade value.

Pack of twisties?

Chicken flavour or no deal.

But seriously if he asked to leave we'd be lucky to get a third rounder for him. Hasn't shown anything to get excited about and has struggled with injuries.

The answer won't be clear until the end of the season. He is just making his way back to full training, and should be given some game time to show what he can do.
That's more like what I was hoping for.

This could be our most important draft period, and what I fear is can we trust the drafting team to deliver? Heads should roll, give notice, or can we
make changes on the move, it is that important we get this right.
If and its a big if, we had made offers, chased some WA talent, plug and play wafl players, we would probably not be in this position we find ourselves
in.
Watching our ruck division without Sandi, Tabs our only true tall forward developing, Apeness is a forward/ruck, injury issues, we really have no choice
but to consider everyone available from other clubs, lower leagues.

Wow look like we are only second to essendon regarding our option, because we can't top up.

We have relied too heavily on trying to get a FA talls in. It hasnt worked every time we've tried it. Hooker will probably not come to us. We should have backed that up with taking a tall with our first pick, yes reaching for one. I dont think we have prioritised Talls heavily enough.

Time will tell if Weller was worth not taking Lever. Goddard and Durdin were also available. Another will be Blakely vs Mitch McGovern this I think is line ball and Connor was rated, so you probably cant argue but having chosen Weller maybe Mitch should have risen in priority.

We do have a Vic Centric draft priority and we ignore too many WA kids. Look at Darcy Cameron, Not even Rookied last year. Rookie Draft should be for this use, taking a punt on WA kids. Deluca should have been a rookie pick, first up.

I hope that Pav's experience of reward for loyalty (even with no flag) will help convince our gifted youngsters to stay the course for a rebuild.

We've skewed towards best available the past few years, and given our draft positions then, that would always be a mid. That was clearly a mistake, to a certain degree, but we are also clearly crying out for mids with good skills to be able to cut out our plodders and to succeed our old guard.

There's no doubting, however, our tall stocks are dire. Who did we pick over the older McGovern?

If we have a high enough draft pick it would be worth pushing to Melbourne that Battle looms as a great possible replacement for Hogan. They will not want to trade Hogan and fair enough, but IF Hogan wants to return to WA, Battle would be a very good option for replacing him, and a very high draft pick as part of that trade may work.

A very interesting comment was made by one of the commentators of the GWS v St Kilda match yesterday. Apparently GWS has got rid of their WA & SA talent scouts and will just concentrate getting their talent through their academies & Zones. Obviously no go home factor and their talent must be so good in their academies. Maybe a reaction to the McCarthy ordeal as well.

Maybe we should have a our main recruiter based in WA as well because we have missed out on so many good WA players.

Gavin Roberts and Nick Lower in the 2011 Rookie Draft. McGovern went in the 3rd round.

I believe Strnadica is a freo supporter as well

Would swap Grey for Sutty who's just not a lock down defender...interested to see if Sutty plays against Adelaide and how he'd go playing on Betts...my prediction if he does is he'd get run ragged

Sutcliffe was very poor yesterday.
In the first quarter, he tried to get a ball by spinning like a ballet dancer.
Didn't want to put his head down and attack the ball.
Shadow of the player he has been.

You're spot on with that contest, that was right in my line of sight. Needed to straight line and take the ball/contact.

In general though not sure why he is persisted with as a defender. His early games it was his kicking in open play and to advantage of forwards which impressed me. And his frame seems more your wingman/running type. Rowan Jones made a good career out of it.

Mayne kicking efficiency on set shots was quoted during the game yesterday. - 18%
Levi Casboult who is generally regarded as a joke was quoted at 27%

It takes a lot of effort and performance to get the ball to someone whos job it is kick straight - who then goes at less than 1 in 5.
