My point is that he has 2 seasons left in him. How many games will he play if he doesn't get injured? He's a massive risk and for what? All that we will achieve is stifle the development of a young midfielder in the reserves who we will need for our longer term success
I totally wouldn't do it if we had to trade for him, but being a free agent it's a free hit. If the cap space is there and we're in the window and we don't have a quick, skilful, evasive, inside/outside mid, then it adds up to me.

That said the 2 queries for me are $$$ and durability.

I just worry how far it would set back our young guys. We need to get them games and I can't see enough up side in Wells to risk losing them

Can we please have your next cryptic clue? You mentioned three players we're into. You could do it like a quiz:

Player 1: Obscure cryptic clue
Player 2: Even more obscure cryptic clue
Player 3: Obvious clue disguised as an obscure cryptic clue

Or potentially it could be like that scene the classic Major League film where a piece of the puzzle was taken off the late 30's/40's owner's bathing suit to reveal some appropriately placed 'stars' in the dressing room. But instead of the 'C' grade actress, it could be Rucci in a leopard bikini.

C'mon redhorse this works on so many levels.

There's a whole heap from our side that I could see both seeking and being offered greater job security/opportunities at other clubs. These include:
CEY
Grigg
Wigg
Lyons
Knight
Kelly
Dear
Otten
Henderson
O'Brien

They all won't obviously go, and not saying they want to, but it would be understandable if they did and I could see other clubs eyeing them off.

Our focus this trade needs to be purely on improving our best 22 for 2017 and specifically the midfield.
& continually regenerating our list.

We should be looking to move on players like cey who are ready, but we are unlikely to play much, whilst they have value.

Need to keep some depth, but also move on those we think will be soon passed by younger talent.

Getting well as a FA would be handy though. Delist vb and thommo.. theres his contract.
Danger money should still have some leftovers? Trade Lyons and we should have coin and trading chips to bring in an A grade mid. That and trade cey.. salary cap should be fine.

FA wells
Lyons for a second rounder
Trade 1st and second for Josh Kelly
Cey for early third
Lose hendo to fa

Out: Thompson, VB, Grigg, Lowden, Lyons, CEY, Henderson
In: J.Kelly, Wells, B.Jarman, Greenwood, Obrien, Beech, 3rd rounder

Brown - Hartigan - Lever
Laird - Talia - Smith
Atkins - Sloane - Josh Kelly
Jacobs - B.Crouch - M.Crouch
Lynch - Walker - Cameron
Betts - Jenkins - McGovern
Cheney - Knight - Hampton - Milera

Josh Kelly...is Daryl Kerrigan territory....

I find it funny that whenever someone brings our lack of genuine explosive pace people come up with names like Brown, Cheney, Smith, Seedsman.

Fact is, last year we had two players with elite, explosive pace, this year it's only Cameron. There is quick and then there is explosive quick. Only Cameron on our list is explosive quick.

Smith is very quick when he chooses to go around the contest. But we've mostly kept him outside, but he's genuinely quick when inside.

Hmmmm I respectfully disagree. Maybe if he was a few years younger but not now. We need a Rockliff or a Martin or a Josh Kelly. Wells was a magnificent player but he's at the end of his time now

Rockliff etc you'd happily give up good picks for because you get a few years from them. Wells you wouldn't, but he costs nothing to acquire, so if our window is open, he'd be a good get if we think he'll get us closer.

Also now playing more of the game off a wing.

Wells is an interesting one, the exact type of midfielder we need. Silky skilled and quick. He would feed our forwards beautifully.

I was originally a no because of his body and age but as 1970crow pointed out, all it's going to cost us is money and if we don't have another recruit we plan on spending the money on we should take the punt.

2 years of Wells and hopefully fit for the finals could tip us over the edge.

Having said that, he's another one linked to Collingwood.

So to eat eggs lying emotionless weighs evenly letting leafs sway meaningfully in tents, chosen he even lay legitimately.
