Now that we are missing the 8 and will have a top 10 pick we cannot do what we always do and roll over in our trade for hendo.

We need to hang on to pick 10 like its gold. We cannot afford to miss out on an elite talent when hendo is:

1. Out of contract
2. Picking us in isolation
3. Just coming off a diabolically shit year.

This is the bundy situation in reverse.

Will we give in and throw elite talent away? Or will we change our tune, realise this is a ruthless competition and do what the good trading clubs do and get the very best deal we can.

Ie our R2 + fringe 22 player that would get games for blues (HS, walker, kersten, even Murdoch).

Carlton cannot push for more as they will therefore lose him for nothing. Henderson is not worth our first. Splitting our pick would even cause us to miss out on the elite talent. We need to hold strong.

After the recent events of Carlton tossing Henderson out of the club, I agree with you that we have so much leverage now and we must take advantage of it. I'm not saying that we screw them over, but we need to be strong in our negotiations and offer what is reasonable but also what is in our best interests aswell.

Round 2 and Walker/Kersten would be as far as I'd go.

If Dangerfield is coming then our first rounder is practically useless. If we're sitting on pick 10 the crows will just match and clearly Danger is worth that.

Unless Adelaide aren't going to match, our best option is to trade down the order to bring in quality. Henderson is obviously part of that but I'd be surprised if we don't bring in another player like the other Menzel or Kolo And trade out our first rounders this year and next in the process. There's just no point leaving ourselves with picks that encourages Adelaide to match.

The draft IMO drops off a lot after Schache Weitering Parish Mathieson Curnow Francis (actually I dont rate Francis as high as some others but anyway, Mills is good but Sydney will get him), I don't really see a lot of difference as to whether we have pick 10 or 15 unless we are somehow going to get a top 5 pick (unlikely).

That said I do agree we should play hardball on Henderson.

I don't think Carlton are as worried about losing Henderson for nothing as Geelong are of not getting him. Henderson doesn't fit into Carlton's plans to rebuild with his age profile, and neither does Pick 30 and a fringe player. Geelong probably need to play ball on this one and give something to get something.

Troll. Ignore people.

Off the mark Stan. Yes HP is known to troll at times but he's posted in a couple of threads tonight and has been quite sincere. Benefit of the doubt imo

Lethality = HodgePodge = HP... ergo he has trolled at times especially Re: the GFC or our players but he's not doing so here. I actually agree with his opinion on Henderson. We need him badly in our defence. Lonners is fast approaching the cliff.

He's a troll mate. Don't be fooled. Out of respect to you I won't push the matter any further. Decide what you will.

I was thinking the same thing.

Chiefly, I am worried that the club will consider this as reason enough to use the first pick in some sort of variation for Hendo, when the whole world knows that in normal circumstances that is massive overs, no matter what the sweeteners.

Best case scenario would be using our first pick in a trade for a quality player 22 or under (think GC or GWS), and our second pick plus a player for Hendo.
And compo for the Arks.

Agreed. Hendon not worth a top 10 pick

I guess the point is that the higher our Rd1 pick becomes ( and it could be 8 atm) the easier it is to get value for by turning it into 2 late rd 1 picks.
Ie its easier to take 8 and get perhaps 17 and 20 than it is take 12 and do that same.
17 and 20 makes a Rd1 for Hendo a far easier statement to accept. (meaning 17 for Hendo and we keep 20).

GO Catters

Or, they can keep the very lovely pick 8, and deal with the Blues as they should re Hendo!
