You don't have to compare the two to justify taking Kersten. There are things to like and dislike about both Tabs and Kersten but let's not make out that Kersten is better than he is because until very recently he's been pretty ordinary.
The Weagles won a flag with potato KPF's. At least we will have a scary midfield to feed our forwards.

But tabs is still ordinary..and believe me im a fan of him.

I reckon he's developing pretty well - my big knock on him coming into this year was his marking but he's improved that to elite levels. I also used to think he was timid, but he's not that either: he competes. He just needs to be allowed to grow more confident and all the little things will click into place. I'd actually jumped off his bandwagon last year but he's proved me wrong this year. I think he'll be keep developing until he reaches a tipping point, like Josh Jenkins, although I think Tabs will get there quicker.

Yeah I noticed that too, a can't we just sign him as a delisted free agent?
Though it would dilute any Mayne compo..
Nah thats only for free agents going the other way who may also attract compensation. DFA period (Nov) is after trade period. FA period starts Friday and closes 4 days before the end of the trade period (which starts next Monday). Clear? Follow up tests will be held.

Elite Marking?

Tabs?

I think I must have been watching a different bloke.

I don't think he has completed enough years of service to be classified as a 'free agent', even delisted. But as he's uncontracted I think you can go PSD.

I honestly have no idea though, could be talking shit.

Years don't come into it if the club doesn't offer Kersten a contract, as intimated in the article.
He's like de Boer, a delisted free agent, who can choose where he goes.
This is how Hamling chose and landed at the bulldogs, no trade required.

Paracleet explained that signing a DFA doesn't affect restricted or unrestricted FA compo.

23rd in the comp for total contested marks, after playing only 18 games

Stats can be deceiving though. He's definitely improving but if you have a closer look at those names he's middle of the road among key forwards which hardly makes him 'elite' at marking.

Edit: 17 games

Is this however because his marking opportunitied are more often contested than uncontested (because for example he doesn't have the speed to get away from his opponent?)

Did anyone listening to trade radio today hear Damian Barrett suggest that Gold Coast have expressed an interest in Micky Barlow? I didn't catch any of it but a mate reckons he heard it somewhere.

His ratio of contested to uncontested marks is fairly normal, so I'd say not

If you're in the top two or three percent in the league for something I think you're doing pretty well.

Let's not expand the sample size to the entire AFL. If you want to compare his contested marking to say Gaff, Danyle Pearce and pretty much any mid except for Fyfe, then yeah, Tabs will feature favourably. Z Clarke was 21 for hit outs - are we calling him elite?

Amongst his peers, key forwards, Tabs is average at best.

Let not carried away, you compare a rookie pick improvement in afl with kersten and black . Who i think is better than both in term of improvement this year.

Yeah, I would probably agree. But being slightly better than a couple of blokes running around in the VFL doesn't make you elite
