Wait - so pretty much the last 2 pages of debate has been triggered by Sam Mayes wearing a yellow top at pre-season training???

You know it is off-season when the colour of a top causes so much debate!

no kidding... good chance a player like Mayes will split time between Mid, Forward and backs groups in training throughout the whole season

Mayes says he feels good about his body and good about his game, hoping to nail down a spot on a half-back flank and wing.

It's a position he initially struggled with, but now wants to make his own.

"I felt like the side needed a bit of skill across the half-back line because it's something we'd lacked in my first couple of years," he said.

"I felt like I kicked the ball well enough and made good enough decision to be able to develop into a nice half-back.

Also mentions he recently bought a house in Brisbane :thumbsu:

That stuff about him wanting to establish himself as a half back or wing is music to my ears. Not because I think that's his best spot but because he's clearly wants to do his role for the team. We supporters can criticise positional changes but I'm glad to hear that Mayes is at least saying the right things about position and role.

Some mixed messages in there though about his long term future.

I agree that he seems to be saying the right things and really important is seeing a change. In the end if we do all we can for players' welfare and lose one or two , that's just life.

Pretty poor article from Mike  Expect much better.

Early on it suggests that a move home would have had nothing to do with the Lions; yet later he quotes Sammy as stating the end of the year was a shambles and that player welfare has only improved in the last few months and that in his three years it hadn't been a massive emphasis o_O

And then the purchase of the house in Brisbane...no quotes on a potential contract, just rolls with perhaps a sign of his intentions for the future

went to training today, didn't see much (grand kids didn't really want to be there, left early). jackson paine was in a moon boot. did notice how players who you don't usually expect to do trick shots ie non dominant foot snaps, tight dripple kicks etc. do them really well at training. shows what a huge factor confidence is in performance, and no pressure of course but i think supreme confidence lowers perceived pressure.
simon black was doing a bit of kicking, can still land it on a dime and looks as fit as ever.
went into the clubhouse, if you can call it that. really low standard facilities. wonder what dayne thought when he first arrived compared to the collingwood mansion?

Got to training about 3:10pm
Jackson Paine has a minor Planta Fascia (spelling) Dayne Beams had a patella scrape (both about 3 weeks)
And as of today Nick has a clavicle fracture (minor) about 4-6 weeks before full contact again!!!
Mostly shorter skill type stuff, some contested handball work, short kicking and some 150m run throughs.
Finished with some fairly heavy running at the end. I missed the middle section of training whilst taking Nick for the scan.
