Ats would be fastest 2 or 3 in the comp over the first 5-10 steps. It's not too much of a stretch to work on some revised clearance drills where he was the designated burst player, breaking from the clearance.

A little imagination and some new plays could do wonders for our midfield.

I agree. I also think if you send him in there to go and get the ball he won't have to think too much. Get ball. Spread from pack. We really need to give him a full year in the midfield to get the rest of the elements of being a mid together.

Alternatively we could go and trade him for a late second rounder. But I think we are much better off holding on to him.

However, we will probably have pick 11 to throw at GWS and Essendon have pick 19 which may entice GWS enough.
Interesting set of circumstances. imo pick 11 for Marchbank is worth it. He is a young 3rd tall back, much like what we need to replace Thompson and would be a great partner for Tarrant in the backline[/QUOTE]

We have three young key defenders on our list now. Why get a fourth? Waste of a pick, go to the draft

I don't mind him but if we give up even our 2nd round for him I'll be dirty.

Just as a reference:
Docherty went at 33
Yeo went at 28

He'll add to our team but the position we are in means our first two picks must be used wisely, not on soon to be 27 year old back pocket players.

Docherty and yeo had done very little at the time of their trades.
Just to compare your reference.
- The pick 33 Carlton gave up for docherty was originally the pick they received for Hampson.
- Melksham went for pick 25

How do you rate tuohy compared to those two?
I think our 2nd pick next year will approximately be in the late 20's. To me that is about right.
Peronally I agree with your rationale that he probably doesn't fit the right age bracket for where the club is heading. Just stating that his worth is definitely an early to mid 2nd rounder.

Hard to compare trades as there are a number of factors any given year that contribute to what value you place on a player. I posted the Docherty and Yeo trades more into response to somebody posting what Melksham went for(still baffles me what Melb gave up).

I don't think we are now in a position to give up a 1st or 2nd rounder this year or next for anybody over 25. If we get Touhy it has to be a swap of players mixed with late draft picks.

For mine we should not be trading our 2nd rounder at all as I think ~30 is a real sweet spot in this pool.
Could ask the question as to whether we would prefer an 18-19 yo Clarke or Hibberd or a 26-27yo Tuohy? Agree that a player and later pick should be the deal. Mind you if we start trading out a bunch of players, we may have a handful of picks to play with. Very unpredictable trade period coming up.

Jack Steele apparently has suffered a serious foot injury at training & won't play again this year

Black has been linked with port....
How was his VFL form this year?
Was kicking 2-3 goals each week for the first half of the season and playing pretty well. Injured his ankle in June and had about 7 weeks off - played the last game of the year but was understandably scratchy.

He was high up in the league goal kicking, until he got a longish term ankle injury. Might have got a run in the ones if not injured

Round 6 - 12 disposals, 5 marks, 4 goals 1 behind

Score tally : 15.5

Round 7 - 10 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 goals

His injury came at the wrong time, if he had of kept up his early season form he would have played a fair few games in the latter stages of this year.

I've watched a lot of Black over the years and still feel he has a lot to offer at AFL level, just not as a genuine tall forward. He plays that third tall role well though.

in 14/15 in lost all his confidence due to playing with a severe shoulder injury. His work rate and defensive application dropped off considerably and struggled to mark over his head. From the early season Werribee games I watched his work rate was back up, and his positioning was good, he was also busting his backside defensively. A lot of potential upside for very little out lay with Black. If he doesn't get picked up by another club I'll be happy if he is still on our list next year. However, I may be the minority on here.

I think the real question is whether the likes of Tuohy, Marchbank or anyone else will cost us a draft pick that's too high.

Im with you on this one.

It seems likely that he wants to leave and I doubt the club will play hardball however if there isnt much love for him at another club I could certainly envisage him being B22 next year and beyond.

Yes, agree with that. Was just looking at a reference point is assessing the choice between a current talent and a kid with potential, and, in particular, in the context of a high 20s pick as was mentioned and our most recent equivalents to that pick range.

Personally, I'd prefer to keep him than trade for bugger all. If the club is making some hard calls, I wouldn't mind seeing a Black/Brown/Wood fwd set up. If we play 3 talls, they need to be mobile.

Agree with this. He's still young, and showed signs this year I think. With Petrie leaving and possibly Waite to follow, there may be room for him. I still would also like to see him tried on a wing or flank, rather than having the pressure of being a forward, which I'm not sure he's comfortable with, looking at his body language in recent times when I've watched him play.
