It's neither snide mor sarcastic. I thought he played a poor game while watching it and think so now. For the chances he's been given he should be much, much better. He's got zero runs on the board in my view.

As for the final line, I don't resort to personal abuse when people disagree.
Firstly, I only ever resorted to personal abuse when posters had been trolling, not when they simply disagree. There is a difference. Besides, that was pre-pledge in any case.

So a comment such as "Well worth waiting seven years for" when referring to Cowan's prelim final performance which in your opinion was and I quote again "absolute rubbish" is neither snide nor sarcastic? Please, you're not fooling me mate and as a fellow pledger aren't we meant to be pulling each other up on these sorts of things? Anyway, I'll leave it at that.

FB: Bews, Lonners, Stewart
HB: Thoey, Hendo, Guthrie
C: Duncan, Cockatoo, Thurlow
HF: Motlop, Taylor, Lang
F: McCarthy, Hawkins, Menzel
RR: Smith, Selwood, Danger
IC: Parfitt, Scooter, Blitz, Kolo

Emerg: Stanley, Menegola, Black.

If we're serious only one of Menegola/ Scooter can play IMO.
Also definitely only one of Blitz/Stanley

Cockatoo, Parfitt need to be gifted serious midfield minutes if we're going to improve enough to seriously challenge at the end of the year.

Well, Stanley has some sort of calf strain apparently, so you might get your wish there......

There's nothing serious about playing Lang over Menegola.

Round 1.
Gifted? I hope all our players get minutes because of training or playing form, ie merit. But we know that isn't necessarily the case.
Menegola will be in the selectors' vision ahead of Parfitt I would have thought. Preseason games will be interesting.

Just my opinion but I don't think we can win the flag with the team we bought into last September. I think we need something extra. We need to give some players with real natural talent games and experience.

More upside IMO. Better user of the footy, quicker.
'Tis more of my opinion of a team and a balance of players that we need by the end of the year not necessarily right now.
I'm all for giving Lang a chance, but he is only a fringe player and Menegola should now be a lock in the 22.

Guess we'll see. Just dunno if we need both Scooter and Menegola in the team.
Both inside, both average users, both about the same pace.
I'd think Danger,Jelwood and one of Scoot/Gola would provide enough grunt.

I think the idea should be to build more depth behind Patty and Joel both because we need more contributors at a high level and to provide some positional flexibility so those two can spend some time forward.

I'd think Menegola is well ahead of Lang in providing this at the moment. Hopefully Lang can step up and be more than the inconsistent flanker he has been.

True. Still think one of him or Scoot is enough, with Guthrie and hopefully Cockatoo.
We saw in last years final the problem wasn't getting the ball first, it was a lack of being able to use it under real pressure and no outside players to receive, and a lack of kicking skills and decision making to deliver efficiently inside 50.
Can't see how having both Menegola and Scooter playing at the same time could improve this.

I think SSelwood will generally be playing a defensive role. Completely agree about developing the outside.

When thinking best 22 I think it best to start with who, if available, did GFC select in the last final.

That team now has Caddy, Enright and Bartel missing from it - and it was not good enough to be beat a Swans outfit - who lost to the Doggies. The Giants look seriously good and you would think only get better. So is our new best 22 near good enough to beat those 3 teams ? The only way you can be in the affirmative is that you largely believe that many of the youngsters we have blooded over the past 2-3 seasons will make significant steps this season. And Tuohy will be a good pick up for us.

It is also unlikely that a 2016 draftee will be in the best 22 come finals (but we can hope of course).

The players selected are best 22 - although I may not have the players in their most often played position.

FB: Tuohy, Lonners, Kolo
HB: Mackie, Taylor, Thurlow
C: Duncan, Danger, Cowan
HF: Motlop, Henderson, Menzel
F: McCarthy, Hawkins, Lang
RR: Smith, Selwood, Scooter
IC: Blitz, Stanley, Guthrie, Menegola

(so the 3 ins are Tuohy, Thurlow and Lang - no surprises there I would have thought).

The following will be given chances to prove themselves over the season -

Cockatoo and Bews will be first cabs off the ranks, followed by GHS, Murdoch and Gregson (if he gets fit). Then who knows - whoever stands out in the VFL.

This also demonstrates we need some of the real younger guys 1 year or less at the club to show something - as we do have some depth.

It seems that is what they might do, at least early on in the season. It is believed Harry has been practising and doing drills as a CHF I believe. That would mean Henderson needs to become our CHB.

I do not care as long as we are better off than the reverse positioning.

Well he's just hurt his calf which has put him in doubt for the pre season games so as you say, even if he does end up playing you would think that his match fitness would be a big concern for them considering that he missed most of last year as well.

In saying that, I'd still be happier if he didn't end up playing at all.

I remember some guy called Mitch Clark did a calf...never saw him again really...

You might get your wish...its not a good injury for big blokes....

Barring injury, if Menegola isn't in the 22 I'll eat my hat.

Psst...i don't actually have a hat....but you get my drift.
I have plenty of hats. I'll eat one and donate one for your gastronomic enjoyment.

I think I recall reading he will miss most if not all the pre-season....or at least a good part of it.

Even without a preseason, just his 7 foot frame will be enough to beat our ruck division.
It's the simple skills such as marking and running out a game which will prevent him from completely dominating but he'll still beat Smith and Stanley regardless.

Sandilands has major injury issues.....he's not what he used to be.

Sandy is out for six weeks max. Was looking super fit in training up to then. I wouldn't underestimate him. The new rules will suit him perfectly.

You should sign up as a member- choice of hat or scarf..

although this season, seems to be all scarves.
