I hear black is considered the devils colour in China so it gets even better.

Ok I might have made that up.

Its a classic though, the only support Port are going to have is from their own supporters who make the trip.

I was having a file clean out and notice this article I had from doing some research in Chinese growth potentials many years ago, Thought you would get a laugh about it,

  1. Black – Water: As surprising as this might seem, Water element is not represented by Blue, but with Black. Black colour in Chinese culture is associated with destruction, evil, profundity, disasters, cruelty, sadness and suffering. It is bad fortune and must not be worn to auspicious occasions like weddings. The Chinese word for black is ‘hei’ which itself stands for bad luck, irregularity, illegality etc. Avoid using black in your brand marketing.
I had the last bit highlighted, Cannot verify the scource as that was missing from the paper.

Just for shitz and gigglez ...

Black: 黑色
Black is the death color. Chinese people can wear black clothes but it is globally used for the labels, the packaging and especially for the gifts. It is not recommended to use the black color. We do not see the black color in the supermarkets in China.

Black
Black, when used in copywriting and text, has a wide array of symbolic meanings that include evil, morbid, corrupted, illegal, and/or greedy. As a color it has a hint of formality and solemness in the minds of the Chinese people. And when giving gifts of any kind, never wrap them in black.

Our advice: Take care not to over-use black. Never put black borders around photographs of people. It means that they are dead and are being memorialized! Avoid presenting someone’s portrait (a photo focused on the face) in black and white mode. This makes your audience think of pictures on graves.

Black borders around photographs mean that the person pictured is dead (better tell their fotographer) ...

How friggin hard is it to workout that Gold Coast colors match China's National Colors ......FFS amateur hour yet again & i repeat that those who think the AFL is a professional business is fooling themselves

The AFL breeds ineptness within its clubs due to the fact the Commission has stated they won't let any club go bust ......that statement is why most clubs STILL can't run a profitable business model and amateur decisions like this are made

It tends to be a safe rule of thumb to say that most adults suck at their job. Its why when a hard-worker with their shit in order comes in they're quickly derided because they make everyone else look as bad as they actually are.

Perhaps the colour match was the reason why GCS agreed to the game?

Is it possible no one else was interested except GCS who saw opportunities for them too

Why is it inept for the AFL to send the gold coast to the China game?

Do you think the AFL didn't realise gold coast have China's national colours, or could it have been deliberate...

Gold Coast region is also the biggest region for Chinese investment in Australia and Tony Cochrane has experience in hosting a sport event in Shanghai (V8 Supercars) plus GC have had Chinese sponsors.

If there is anyone in Australia who knows how to efficiently get real dollars out of Chinese businessman for Australian sport/entertaiment it is Cochrane.

I doubt he worries about the wanky cultural stuff or three year lead time either.

Which is why I posed the question, if more games are played in China, will Port or Gold Coast be involved...

Would not surpise me if that became an annual fixture.

But things could change if the Libs get in here next March and they dont sponsor the SA trade/economic show in Shanghai that is the main event for this game.

Who does Marshall support?

Who does Marshall support?
Not sure.

But the economic/trade show is a good thing for SA business and should continue to grow and create ties between our economies.

The Port pipe dream of gaining real money for themselves aside, Kochie is doing good things for his real passion which is Asian/Australian economic relationships.

It is a good vehicle for that purpose. As he said the football is irrelevant and he sees them as the Harlem Globetrotters of the AFL.

Turning an AFL club into a pseudo Rotary club is pretty much what he is doing.
