I think your right he'll run out the season and win the rising star, but I wouldn't say he's had 2 preseasons under his belt. He was restricted in his first and then they operated on him to remove the rods in his leg from the terrible break he had at the start of his under 18 year, that's also why he slipt in the draft after being rated a top 3 or 5 pick by most before the leg break

The extra pre-season comment came from another poster.

I was always confident with Burton, as his injury so reminded me of Stringer at Bendigo, 5 years prior....We just needed enough patience with him & the risk was always going to pay off if we did so.

When kids break their legs so badly like that, at 17; Then there's always a good prognosis on a chance at full recovery, as their bones are still 'green & growing'.....What that means is that they tend to knit back together far better than if they did that same injury at say 25-28. Ah la Nathan Brown, who subsequently never really fully recovered.

Prior to his horrific injury, Burton projected to be number 1 pick in his draft class.....And now we are starting to see why.

Sorry about the mistake, I'm knew to bigfooty, I totally thought the same thing with the Stringer comparisons injury wise. He is definitely the most talented of our kids and I see him as a midfielder down the track. It's a real shame Kieran Lovell is injured at the moment, because we need to get games into him

What a load of crap.

"Rarely picks up an opposition player". Stop talking down a kid and making shit up as you go.

The week Burton was nominated he spent largely on Tex Walker.
Burton is played as a spare man in defence, he is rarely left 1 on 1. You Hawthorn supporters can only point to one game where he played on Tex Walker...I reckon I know who is talking shit..

I will try to get this thread back on track.

All bias aside its Burtons award. :)

We're half way through the year. Relax.

Plenty still in the running, including Taranto, Petrevski-Seton, McGrath, Marchbank & Powell-Pepper.

I think it may come from one of those guys and if Burton takes it out; Good on him.

Well, this is just untrue.

I just checked and I got 31:1 for Burton RS pre-season, I thought it was like 18 or something. Pretty good surprise that one!

It'll be pretty funny when the bloke who wins it, wasn't even on the o/p's sizeable list.

Never change Figbooty.

Just goes to show how much better he is at reading the play, the flight of the ball, and getting to the drop compared to all his opponents for you to think he has been playing as a spare. I can assure you though that he has in fact had an opponent every week. But if you actually watched him play you'd know that.

I do watch him play. That's why I've commented on it. He's a good player, and may take out the award, but that is how he has been played. A lot of hypersensitive hawks fans...maybe indicates your current situation and desperation to find good young players.

Relax. You've found a good one.

I've watched him closely as I wanted Carlton to take a punt on him, but we'd already picked three high quality talls before him in weiters, Curnow and Mckay (who I'm really happy with). We were always picking an onballer with our next pick (even though burton had already gone.

We've got a similar young player in marchbank, who plays a similar role. Hoping he plays a great second half of the year and takes out the award, as his first half has been very good.

You don't need to tell me to relax. I'm very comfortable. I was simply addressing something that is objectively incorrect. Anyone can go watch the games he's played and can see for themselves that he has had an opponent for the majority of playing time. If you're going to make things up then you should do it with something that can't be easily refuted simply by watching the game.:thumbsu:

You're still talking the same shit. I mentioned the game he was nominated in.

If you'd have watched him every week, like you say you have, you'd have seen him matched up on forwards like Hogan, Bruce, Membrey, Kennedy, Moore throughout matches.

Coming on here desperately trying to make out like Burton doesn't play on anyone, and pretending you've watched him closely, is all you've got.

Starting on them doesn't necessarily mean he stands them all game. I think YOU need to watch the games more closely. Or doesn't that suit your agenda?

Just to put things straight because you appear to be the self proclaimed expert...all your pumping up of your own player won't win him the award. The judges will take in to account who he does/doesn't play on which will count against him. SPP, McGrath and SPS win more of their own ball.
Can smell the desperation from here..

No one stands a player all game in AFL these days, especially not at Hawthorn. And if you'd have watched him like you say you have, you'd know this.

But there it is in bold, your desperate attempt to talk Burton down, all because of your dog in the fight. So desperate, you mention SPP twice.

You are a bit worked up old boy. Not once have I said SPS will win the award. Just because he's better in some areas doesn't mean he's better overall. He's had too many average games at this stage. I would however have McGrath and SPP ahead of burton. Of the players from Carlton, marchbank is better placed to win it than SPS.

But it clearly doesn't mean as much to me as it does to you. You seem so desperate for burton to win this award. Not really sure why, as all players mentioned look the real deal and set for (hopefully) long careers.

Also, just to make it clear...I don't really give a stuff what you think, I will continue to call it as I see it.

And you might want to prepare yourself....we are only half way through the year... any of the nominees could win the award.

Wow hawthorn peeps we get it already, Burton is looking like a very decent flanker at this stage and hopefully he has a great career but you should probably calm your farms a bit, the adoration for a second year player in this thread is a little excessive!!

Generally when your team is going nowhere you take an extra interest in anything that represents hope - such as an RS award.

This must be magnified when you don't even have a good incoming draftee for the year I'd imagine - I dare say you get even more fixated on any kind of hope. It's understandable
