Knightmare just said we're red hot on Clark, so it doesn't sound like we need to worry about us passing on him if he's there. Unfortunately it's looking less and less likely that he'll be available for us.

Sadly.

Any slight, ever so slim chance of us getting Clark, evaporated when Luke Shuey kicked the winning goal against Port on that fateful night.
We then went from pick 9 to pick 13 in the blink of an eye.

Worth it.

Anyone see the footy prophet twitter mock draft.

Our selections were:
13. Obrien when Constable was still left.
21. Kelly because fear Cats may take, if the cats want him with picks 22 or 24, go for it.
26. Garner
32. Patmore
37. Taylor

The guy who did purs should be shot.
Personally I am interested in this information. As far as I am aware this is a free forum. I say keep posting as you see fit.

We need west australians. Only west australians. Sumich says so. Weve only had 6 non west aussie premiership players and we need sandgropers if we want to build a premiership list.

This was a rather senile thing to hear from sumich today, though he probably gets a bonus the more players he gets drafted.

Judd
Hansen
Butler
Waters
Selwood
Wirra
Braun

We had more than 6 in our last premiership team let alone all time

1992 had none every player was from WA.
1994 there were only two Shane Bond and David Hynes both from South Australia who both were Port Adelaide players.

In fairness I believe that Asterix has listed as options at the following picks :

Pick 13 . L Fogarty
Pick 26 . Spargo
Pick 32 . Moore

All of these guys could play as a small crumbing forward and even Kelly could play that role but he would be best utilised further up the ground.
With any pick inside the top 40 I would not want to waste a pick solely on a crumbing forward, inside 40 the player IMO would need to offer some other positional versatility to warrant consideration.

Ironically the better performed crumbing forwards over the last decade, Milne, Betts, and Jeff Garlett have all come of a rookie list and the mature ager Paul Puopolo came as a very late pick ( pick 66 ).

IMO you don't waste a pick in the first two rounds solely on a small crumbing forward unless they can contribute elsewhere on the ground.

If we land L Fogarty and Kelly we dont need to waste a pick on a small forward. Fogarty plus Rioli together with Ah chee and Venables is enough new forward options to develop.

With the three remaining top picks we need two bigger mids and a KP. Later picks we take some risks.

It's sad but that's the reality some players are happy to just coast through their careers and we have a bit of those types, Wellingham was one of them.
Except for 2015 when Wellingham and others played like they wanted to win at all costs until GF day when most forgot to turn up, however from memory Wellingham wasn't one of them. Can remember it was a pleasure to go to every game as you just knew the players would put in. I wonder what happened to cause the reversal, particularly in 2016?

Here's a little bit more of what KM had to say:

"Hunter Clark is the preferred with the first choice. Tim Kelly WCE may consider with 21 as North Melbourne probably take him at 23 if not. Ryley Stoddart, Jack Petruccelle, Brandon Starcevich and Liam Ryan have all been connected to WCE. They're the names I'm hearing most firmly connected, though no doubt there are others in the mix.

With WCE, the other key note is WCE historically like guys who have strong junior careers - think Tom Swift, Jack Darling. I wouldn't be surprised, particularly with the first choice, or maybe the other choices also, if there is a leaning/preference towards these types.

That might bring an Aiden Bonar, Darcy Fogarty, Jaidyn Stephenson or Jarrod Brander into the picture at 13 as some who would make sense following that trend."

Not sure if Braden Quartermaine is rated or not but here’s a couple of excerpts from an article he put out through Perth now, today.

“West Coast’s selections across the national and rookie drafts are expected to have a strong local flavour, though not only from Peter Sumich’s WA under-18 team.”

“The Eagles are also understood to be considering several mature-age prospects from the WAFL, including Claremont small forward Zac Langdon, South Fremantle’s Tim Kelly and Subiaco high-flyer Liam Ryan.”

Please, not Petrucelle

Wow Starcevich does have a nice highlights reel, could be anything. Could even be the next Simon Tunbridge.

It’s possible he turns out like tunbridge yes but the differences are starcevich has elite endurance and agility which tunbridge didn’t have. Not as physically built as tunbridge but his body isn’t broken yet either.

He looks more evasive than Mitchell, his both sides are identical he focuses on his skills/craft a great deal, plus he tackles like a mad man.

Based on the youtube highlights of him, I’d say this is way off the mark. Mitchell was basically untackleable for 98% of his career - he was the epitome of evasive.

The highlights of Higgins that I’ve seen display no such trait. He appears to be a high production, highly skilled, motivated competitor but i don’t see him taking on tacklers or breaking lines. I’d be happy to be proved wrong - feel free to post links to other highlights i may have missed.

You see this is where the Starcevich hype , miffs me.
For a guy with the talents you praise him for, it seems odd that he only averages 14 possessions a game in the Colts.

2016 10 games Colts Ave 11.3 possessions and kicked 2 goals in 10 games.
2017 10 games Colts Ave 14.3 possessions and kicked 5 goals in 10 games.

I am sorry but that doesn't sound like either a high impact midfielder or a forward that bother the scoreboard operator enough.

I have watched him over two years and he is such a tease, what he does he does with brute strength and at pace, trouble is he doesn't do it very often and goes missing for long periods in games.
He drifts in and out of quarters and in and out of games.

I haven't seen him put together a full four quarters of football in a game yet.

That is a major concerns and for me is a red flag.

If he wasn't a WA kid I doubt his name would even be mentioned in relation to us.

Sounds fairly similar to Tunbridge then
