The game is won and lost in the midfield, an area we have clearly struggled in and an area we got exposed last year with Naitanui out. Just no class. There must be a whole lot of belief internally with those midfielders already on the list to step up, we seem to draft everything but what we’re crying out for.

Ryan is the only one who will be capable of playing in our best 22. The other prospects will be spending time in East perth and won't get a game. This is not good for our depth, We needed a ready made midfielder to push in to best 22 calculations and provide some depth and competition in our weak midfield.

Brayshaw 100% play next year.

I would like to see our forward 6 next year look like this
Ryan Kennedy Rioli
Lecras darling Venables

Lecras potentially replaced if doesn’t perform by mutimer or Karpany

Better option than the myriad of other players we've been playing there at AFL level (i.e. Mutimer, Partington).
Never thought partington was going to stay forward he's more your pure mid who can kick goals getting game time into him those last few games of the year will have been a blessing for him. He'll be thrown into it this year.

I'd say people are probably displeased that we needed top quality midfielders and instead chose to take 2 talls with our first 2 picks. Brander in isolation is fine. Allen in isolation is fine. Together with Ryan with our first three picks they make for a disappointing draft imo.
Should have gone for best mids this year and traded the farm for Hogan next year. Pretty sure he will be heading home next yr.

I reckon he looks like he could be just about as good as a Hogan. And worst case scenario, give it two or three years, if he develops as he should, he could be excellent trade bait. We could get a gun midfielder, I'd say a better one that we could have reliably gotten for pick 14

Drafting players with the view to trading them (unless they're from the Gold Coast) doesn't seem like a very solid strategy to me.

I'm OK with our draft...

Brander: could be anything, good potential replacement for JK... would have preferred Higgins though. Satisfaction with pick: 6/10
Allen: great pick given where he was, didn't address our mid needs. 7/10
Ryan: excited to have him but felt it was a reach at 26. At least we have him. Hopefully he edges out LeCras straight off the bat. 6/10
Ainsworth: don't know much about him. Would have preferred Constable. 5/10
Petrucelle: exciting attributes I guess. 6/10.
Brayshaw: very happy wth this pick. 9/10.

When you look at our top two players I think the quality of player is fine. And I've always been an advocate of draft the best player but given the dire situation in the middle of the ground I think we are a rare exception to that rule. And we'll never know but I wonder if Brander would've lasted till our next pick and Allen to the one after that....

But then when you think about it who would have taken as midfielder at 13? Higgins was probably the only one that saw much talk about at our #13 and he's very small for a modern day footballer. Not saying he can't succeed, but I think most of had someone around the 6'2 in mind.

Hopefully this talk of Oscar Allen playing in the midfield is legitimate and it can work. The list of Larke Medallists is typically very strong so no reason to think he won't be there again.

Like you all I'm hoping StCicatriz is on the ball particularly in regards to Ainsworth.

The other issue and I guess this is why people are freaking out a bit is we really need to nail this draft. Trading out of next years supposedly very strong first round and the very shaky state of our list at the moment means there is not much room for error. This needs to be one of our best ever drafts otherwise and that means getting somewhere around 600 games from it - ala 1995 (Cousins, Wirrpanda, Phil Matera), 1999 (Cox, Hunter, Glass) or 2001 (Judd into Kennedy, Lynch and to a lesser degree Hansen and Seaby). I think if this one doesn't come up somewhere in comparable quality and quantity we could find ourselves in a tough position.

Very happy with our picks. Yes it lacked midfielders with pace but you have to pick the best available first and we did that. Stoked especially we got Allen @ 21 and Ryan @ 26.
If we have of got Fogerty at 21 and Allen at 26 then Ryan at 32 and Ainsworth at 37 that would have been great happy with Allen and Brander but we didnt address our midfield quality at all. Long term will tell the storey hopefully Ryan can translate his WAFL form to AFL

I can see sheed and redden who have been stuck on the hhf take priddis and mitchells place in the guts . Ahchee and venables take the vacant hhf roles rotating midfoeld . Ryan to the pocket if he shows enoungh . He has proven wafl form already .

You had two picks before us, if you desperately wanted him, he was there for the taking - in particular pick 21. Geelong were always picking him up with one of their 20's picks if you overlooked him at 21. West Coast knew that. You just rated Allen higher, and he looks the goods to me. I think you guys did well overall.
And who the **** asked you?
