No chance atm but maybe a few years down the track. Spp, Sps, Cripps,

I noticed you are appointing Yeo to be vice captain. What part of his leadership do you think fits with this appointment? Interested to hear your views.

In my view we need to be appointing C and VC on on-field leadership qualities. We look a million bucks when the game plan is working well and we lose our way badly when the other team has momentum. I think for our team in particular there would be a benefit in having our leadership figureheads impacting the game rather than stuck at each end of the field as at present.

Yeo looks on track to be a player who through his physical gifts and mindset can impose himself upon the contest and swing momentum our way. He obviously has a way to go yet but he has showed a considerable improvement in his football maturity so far this year. If he holds this approach through to the end of the season I would have no problem with him with a VC next to his name next year.

I read in the West Australian today that West Coast are holding off on re-signing veterans Mark LeCras, Matt Priddis and Sharrod Wellingham as they assess the state of their list.
https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-c...-priddis-and-sharrod-wellingham-ng-b88483542z

Like the way this is heading as LeCras is the ring leader of the flat trackers, Wellers has not made it with his run and carry and holds down a solid defender role (plenty of those in the cupboard) and Priddis still gets a lot of it but his effectiveness and lack of pace is starting to be further exposed.

These 3 coupled with Mackenzie would see us with what I expect would be over $2 mln uncommitted in 4 players. Interesting development.

Brad Lynch is still my favourite as a cheap trade option. 187cm half back, needs to fill out but has a lethal kick of either foot and has some speed. He's injured at the moment but that should help confirm that only a token trade is required.

Eagles fan growing up too.

Agree with you on his deeds so far in 2017 but we need to appoint on leadership and not player ratings and performance. Yeo's role had become complicated in 2016 asking for midfield minutes and HFF so 2016 was not good. Simplifying his role was a brilliant move and we have seen the benefits this year.

We are missing on-field leadership. Please do not mix up people who can do it themselves (Kennedy and Yeo) with people who can get others to do it.

Can leadership be learned? Well, he used to hang about with my niece's friendship group and reality is that he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer by any stretch of the imagination. He is in good company with Dumb Sheed (yes, that was his junior nick name). Both are looking like a good to great player this year and loving Yeo's step up in play and consistency.

Shuey has the leadership capabilities so happy with that. Kennedy is by example. If we can harness Barrass, we may have a decent leader but he has a lot to learn and is not there yet. Other than that, the cupboard is pretty bear as Duggan was expected to be a future captain and he is not close to where we need him.

On the vine here, Acres has voiced his frustration previously at Richardson and Co for the "In one week and out the other", Would go back to VLF had 30+, watch the film over with the cohort would pick through the cons. Has got more continuity at the selection table but there is still some unease. Would love for us to go real hard at him

Gee gold coast has done well with retaining their young WA guns and letting go of the right ones.

Jack Martin, Ah Chee and Swallow should have all been gettable at some point but they've done well retaining them despite minimal on field success.

Meanwhile they've let clearly the most troublesome one go in Bennell (who's barely fired a shot), and gotten back a first rounder out of it.

On top of that they've ditched pointless accumulator Dion Prestia to Richmond, and gotten pick 6 for that as well.

Great list, although it's slightly outdated with a couple of the better players signing contract extensions recently.

Here's some possible targets:
* Mitch McGovern - Our biggest target and a must have (although some on here would disagree), would provide excellent cover when Kennedy retires.
* Brandon Matera - In fine form at the moment and still young, so he would be a good LeCras replacement.
* Blake Acres - Might be able to entice him over early. Quality young player and would be a nice pickup.

Hugh Greenwood is Tasmanian. Charlie Cameron would be sick but he only lived in wa for a year or even 2. Would love him but I have heard that the indigenous boys at the crows are a very tight knit group.
thanks, pretty much just went off the clubs they were recruited from.
Agree Cameron would be a great get, but like the rest on the list, bloody difficult to pull out of the clubs they are currently with.
Anyone have any idea what kind of dollars Wellingham/Priddis/LeCras are on? Would expect if we keep all of them in 2018, they will be on 12 month, dramatically reduced dollars contract. Hoping it free's up potentially $200K-$300K per year (or more), that we could add to someone else's contract we are trying to get or keep?

Sounds like you have preconceived notions of what these guys are capable of due to prior knowledge.

Let's see how Yeo matures over the next year or two before stamping his papers based on how he behaved as a kid.

Other than that I agree with the thrust of your post. Being a good player doesn't automatically mean one is a leader - see Juddy for a good example.

My position is that in a team of followers, like we have put together, I think there is benefit to consolidating our "do-it-themself" players and our figurehead leaders, if possible. This avoids our lesser players getting gee'd up at individual brilliance and looking around to see the leadership group guys just resetting for the next play like robots. We need to inject some passion into the side.

Should go hard at , C. Cameron, J. Martin, M. Mcgovern, Lobb, Duncan, Coniglio and C. Mayne

And inquire about Matera, Acres (unlikely)

No chance atm but maybe a few years down the track. Spp, Sps, Cripps,

Matera don't be drawn in by bloodlines . Barely good enough for GC . Check his goals out little or nothing done by him, unattended when GC traveling well .

Harry Marsh would be an alright get, but he's contracted until 2019 and won't be on the radar this offseason.

I haven't actually heard of Nick Robertson, is he any good?

My shopping list, excluding overly unrealistic options and players still in their first contract:

Blake Acres
Stephen Coniglio
David Swallow
Charlie Cameron
Kamdyn McIntosh
Sam Menegola
Mitch McGovern
Nathan Wilson

In terms of some cheaper options, I wouldn't be averse to picking up:

Jarred Jansen
Nick Robertson
Kade Stewart

Yeah would really like him at WCE

If we had any decent small fwds i agree but beggars can't be choosers, we are really bare for genuine small fwds so i would take him and give him ago at least he can crumb and has good pressure.

What would you be prepared to pay for these 8? None of them are free agents so we would need to pony up a decent salary and suitable compensation in picks/players. A couple of your list were top 10 picks and hence they are not going to be cheap.

Oh, you ask the difficult questions don't you. :p

I misread the list and thought it said Acres was uncontracted. If he was, if he demanded a trade we could get him with a pick between 10-12. Naturally, much depends on where we finish this year. If we miss the eight, which is a possibility given our fixture, we obviously have more bargaining power. While he is contracted, they will probably be chasing two firsts, because they can. I'd probably offer pick 11 (let's say), and our second rounder next year (pick ~30). If you look at the Tom Mitchell deal last year that is a fair offer.

I'd then look at the trade bait on our list and try and scrap our way back up the draft order.

191cm midfield with a big tank but is adapting to a hbf role this year he has heart , determination and a bit of mongrel ..Out of contract 2017. .

Lost track of him as I haven't really watched a lot of Brissy so someone may be able to expand a bit more .

Also Buddy v Robertson

Not sure if any of these guys will be there for our next tilt. May as well give it a red hot crack this year though whilst top 4 is still an outside possibility.. If we were to miss out on that this year you might as well cut hard...

Can't be done in a year or even two.
