Are there any examples where splitting a Top 3 draft pick actually works out favourable?

To me, it just seems like a short sighted gamble each time..

EG: Melbourne's Pick 2 (Josh Kelly) for Pick 9 (C.Salem + D.Tyson)

Rather take the best available Mid at 3 and have a higher percentage chance of A grade talent to pair with Harley.
While I agree in general, Salem is a pretty important player for them and Tyson looked pretty good early on. Just seemed to break down physically. Kelly looked like a superstar early as well but has plateaued a lot.

This year doesn’t seem to have a Josh Kelly or a Sheezel/Wardlaw though.

As if Victorian journalists couldn’t get any funnier, Jay Clark is suggesting we trade pick 3 to Carlton for picks 12 and 14 and then give Richmond pick 12 for Liam Baker

It’s absolutely hilarious how these guys are so desperate for Richmond to have an amazing draft hand and for us to just get shafted

They’d get half way into 2025 and start saying how we lack quality youth and start criticising us for trading pick 3 away and using 12 on Baker

I thought I'd read it all but one Richmond supporter over on their trade thread suggested our Pick 3 for Baker + Pick 18.
Now ain't that something.
When the media is frothing out first round pick fantasies for Baker it’s easy to understand why they’d be inflating his value.

Imagine if they did the same for Barrass. We’d be absolutely lathering ourselves over potential juicy trades

Also, I know it's less than what Richmond are asking for but should we give up pick 26 for Baker (assuming we can't work out the Barrass trade) that would leave us with pick 3 and then pick 63 being our next selection. I can't imagine a world in which such an outcome would be acceptable to us in the middle of a rebuild. Ergo, if there is nothing else on the table we cannot offer even pick 26 to Richmond this year (as it currently stands).

We can do this, then bring our future picks into this year and find a way to split 3 for something decent (a top 7 pick+ top 20 pick)

Take 6+18+a 2nd rounder(for our f2) and Champion.
Could split the 2nd rounder for 2 picks in the late 2nd/3rd round too. Supposedly a deep draft so lets go deep

Check the DFA market or trade a f4/pick in the 60s if we want more players

Righto I’ve been busy all day.
Does our new recruiting team get thrown to the lions, or are they sheer genius?

I'd say for the second year in a row they haven't bowed down to public pressure by the Victorian media and made a decision detrimental to the future of the club...but trade period doesn't end for another five days so anything's possible.

Oh f*** me, did you have to mention them.

Numerous incoming posts about all things King of The Jungle from a certain guest poster, will now be on there way.

So here is my latest

Pick 3 (retain) - FOS or Lalor or Smith
Notional pick 14 - welcome home Tom
Pick 26 - Oliver or Gross
Champion with points
A KPD and utility and small forward with late picks/rookies respecting the depth of the draft
I like it. FOS and Oliver, try to turn Barrass or our F1 into 6 or 7 and take Tobie.

Titch 21, Fyfe 20, Neale 58, Wines 7, Crippa 13.

I’m all for good picks but it’s a particularly even draft and if we can turn 3 into near on two top 10s I’m all for it this time around
