Newnes needs to improve his disposal, especially his long kicks into F50. He's one of the main offender in kicking blindly & to our opponents advantage.

He won't be traded but he's nowhere near the level of the 3 players you've mentioned.

Number one offender for high metres gained but doing nothing of value with it. Needs to clean up his decision making and then maybe we can consider on the same level as some of those other guys.

Beware the sleeper if all quiet on Rocky. Would take him for 700k/3yrs in a heartbeat. Genuine gun!

Would he be more talked about as a FA target here if Lions were in the 8 (meaning our picks wouldn't slide one place with the 1st round compo). Me thinks so.

Whilst he is a very good player and would improve our side slightly he just isn't the type we need. We have plenty of his type but obviously not as good. Our genuine issue is outside run. That is one thing he cant do. If anything we have to many inside which means others aren't playing to their strong suit and are needed to play outside. We need a player that will stop Steven being tagged. Doubt Rocky is that type. By the way we may not be able to get the player we really need. That I do realise.

Who we gonna get? My guess.
1. Motlop would be high on hitlist and worth the risk. Point 1 and 2. Tick tick. FA you beauty. Cats need currency for yablett
2. Rocky is a little outside but is FA...we all like that. Would be ticking boxes but doesn't solve speed. Has a good boot and can go fwd
3. Lever. Crows need currency and we have it. Don't think Lever has us top of his list but it's only based on what ive read. Point 3 tick.
4. Dusty. All in. Costs war chest but no picks. Brilliant. Justifies the coin. Also can go fwd. point 1. Tick point 2. Tick
1. No
2. No
3. Entertaining it
4. Up to our eyeballs

All caught up on the 'news' here. Seems like everyone is up for trade, lol.

Don't know if it was posted before but GWS have enquired about Gresh for what that's worth

Not even Pick 5?
Whole lot of talk on this draft not being strong. But that relates to depth of the draft.
Would we really reject the possibility of Picks 5, 7 and 8/9/10?
It's a rung below at the top end. Wouldn't even do it for pick 5.

How many picks to do we need anyway. There's literally no point in throwing away acres with 4 years of development to only have to start again at year 0. It stunts your list development

Gresham is a real favourite of mine ........but ...
What if the deal was Gresham and a 1st round pick for Kelly ?

Not sure why you think it's impossible that the club might think that we have worthy replacements to come in to the side (ricey?) and that his 500-600k wage or whatever it is could be better used to help lure big names to our club?
You're right it won't stop us being able to land a big name but my whole post was about the possibility of needing the extra cash because we are after 2 big names...
Nah, all I was getting at is that Montagna's potential contract would be for only 1 year and surely on a lot less coin than currently (ie a lot lot less than $600k). Therefore, we do not need him to retire purely for the purpose of landing a gun. That's my theory. Hope you are right though. I seriously think we already have the players to replace him - he is not a great defender.

Had a laugh at others here discussing rumors surrounding Blake. Couldn't be further off the mark if they tried, haha.
Imagine the list management in that!!!!

Oh we've just traded McEvoy to get more draft picks to build to 2020. We pick up a highly rated junior in a very good draft. Spend 4-5 years developing him. But now let's on trade him for a minor 14 pick upgrade in a much poorer draft. Burning the 4-5 years of development now that we are a bees dick away from the pointy end of the list strategy. effectively having to start again with the player we pick up when we already have two high end picks in this draft.

Utter ****ing madness.

Monty was saying a little after the midweek break last year we were looking at JOM and Rocky.

Could it be we had Rocky wrapped up in the off season

View attachment 407627 This is me with my cousin (in the pram) at our last game at Morabbin. Bit sentimental and probably the wrong thread but I just wanted to say that following the Saints has been an awesome journey my whole life. Yeah we're not that successful but I look at the forum every day and see what you guys write, watch the games every weekend and just f*^king love it. Whoever we get in the draft and trade period will be awesome because they've decided to pull on a red white and black jumper. This club and all of you are bl00dy ace. Spread the love as we finish out another year and farewell a champ. Carn the Saints!

Nice post mate. Thanks for the share

Interesting. They don't have the draft picks atm to trade for him and even if they did they'd know we probably wouldnt be interested. It would have to involve a player.

If we miss out on the likes of Kelly and Dusty I'm sure we'll have someone up our sleeves.

Highly doubt we'll land no-one at all after all those we've managed to get in recent years, like Carlisle, Steele, Membrey, Bruce, Savage, Koby, Brown, Robbo, etc.

Hard year to extract anyone really good from another club though, with every club getting an extra $2mil to spend in their salary cap to help them retain those they really want to.

Will be very excited to see who we land in the draft though if we have at least one top 10 pick.

Plenty in this draft who I would love to have at the club and not landing a Kelly/Dusty type will mean there's one more spot in the midfield for an Acres (who plays so much better there!), Gresham, or a Freeman, and hopefully that opportunity that they might not have otherwise gotten will enable them to have a Steven/Ross type breakout year, that they might not have otherwise had.
