Has there been any links to a potential DFAs?

We still have that back-up ruck issue and are potentially a mature KPP short.
Not a lot of rucks delisted this year. Naismith retired because he's pretty well cooked, Mate Colina is going to be re-rookied, Preuss isn't worth it, McAndrew from Sydney might be worth a look.

You missed my point about sending Richo to Harvard. Of course it's a good idea to invest in the professional development of your coach.

My argument is that while it was appropriate for Hawthorn, Geelong, Swines and Collingwood to send their respective coaches to complete these courses, Richo was simply not up to benefiting himself nor the club by following suit. Like sending a primary school kid to to study for a Doctorate in astrophysics.

His record of failure and mediocrity speaks for itself. The other clubs were rewarded for their investment with premierships. We didn't even get a single finals appearance out of ours.

Your argument for Elshaug is bizarre. So you believe having played the game is sufficient to qualify you for the job? Or sucking up Pagan or Lyon's arse for 15 years does? They didn't even follow their normal protocols for filling the position. They gifted it to him and boy did the club pay a high price for that.

I can assure you I know what type Elshaug is. A little narcissist who vastly over rates himself. His record speaks for itself.

I did some scouting work for both the kangas and WB during the teens. He was considered a joke at North and rejected for the top job at the WB.

He applied for numerous coaching jobs and failed to get any of them. "As dumb as dogshit," was how he was described by a colleague from Norf. I was horrified when he was gifted the top recruiting job with us.

The other problem for his insane pursuit of a high profile job in the AFL is his record. Notice that only the dopers have employed him since Lethlean sacked him. That gig lasted a year I believe, unil they also saw how shithouse he was. I don't think anyone else has taken a chance on him since. Good riddance.
How in the blue FLICK did Lyon end up with Trout as an assistant anyway? He rarely tolerates fools. And why tf did we promote him to list manager? What did he do to impress the CEO? Was he just cheaper?

Richo was also shyte at dealing with conflict and making hard calls. He avoided difficult conversations with players. Consequently lost their respect. "G'day Saints fans....." "If you just park that bad quarter...."
This is triggering the F out of me. Between him and that fricken Elshaugh… ahhhhhhhh

Ha ha - I might frame this - its like a living breathing representation of how to be a keyboard warrior.

Let me guess - Elshaug got a job you wanted.

Very light on for options. We will likely have to draft someone from the state leagues or wait until the SPP period and hope someone we like makes it through the draft. The 2nd option is my preference because most state league rucks are crap and I'd hate to be locked into one for two years because we drafted them.

Which is why the links to Curtis Taylor would be bewildering
Those links made no sense. But it has seemed to go nowhere so maybe it's just an online rumour with little legs.

A journo seemed to make reference to it again last week. I just can’t remember where I saw it. It was in print not audio. Didn’t say it was happening, just mentioned us and him.

unless Richmond re rookie Mate Colina as its first pick anyone else could also pick him up

If anyone wants a giggle, check out Elshaug’s LinkedIn page look what he lists as achievements during his tenure with us.
Wow. 8 years as list manager and by his own admission his only acquisitions of note are: Steele, Sinclair, Newnes, Ross, Marshall, Battle, Membrey and Gresham.

He certainly failed at 2 of his listed key responsibilities:
• To recruit the best talent available via Free Agency, Trade and the Draft;
• To manage a list for sustained success.
I'm excluding rising star nominations, because that is the most meaningless award in the AFL. But it says a lot that he has to include that to pad out his achievements.

The music stopped and he was the only one to grab a seat. The story I was told by the man he replaced, was that he had been an assistant for RTB, but resigned because he couldn't hack the pace.

The club took pity on him and wanted to find a position for him in the club. This was where Elshaug used his only identifiable skills to worm his way back in. Sucking arse, and being the ultimate "yes man" as he'd done so expertly at Norf and Carlton with Pagan, who is a massive narcissist and needed a Waylan Smithers-type to work for him.

In any event, RTB snuck out to join Freo, and the rest is history.
The irony was that RTB helped to bring him back as an assistant, despite the rat bagging the boss behind his back.

How and why he was appointed to the crucial recruiting gig is still shrouded in mystery. I'd say it's because the club is too embarrassed to explain it apart from issuing the usual PR weasel words. Hasn't the trout kicked on? Say no more.

i was going to say that as well, but i thought i might get flamed down for saying it.
Correct about the "personal reasons". I was told he couldn't handle RTB's demands and resigned. The two are intertwined. RTB 1.0 was a tough taskmaster and burned through many assistants.

So what do you do with Trout? Appoint him to the second most important job in the football department. Only at St.Kilda!

Having no money to attract a decent recruiter & being stuck in a backwater probably had a bit to do with it... although Nettlefold still found enough cash to pay himself exceedingly well for a bumbling fool of a CEO.

A typically ignorant reply from you PoS. Your initials are an aptronym. You obviously know nothing about the situation, yet you defend this moron, who destroyed our list.

"Keyboard Warior?" Do you see the irony of your post? I get it now. You are Trout. How's your search for an industry job going? Don't fret, you have one fan on BF. Oh wait, that fan is you. Sorry.

trout was promoted and kept on until June 2018. Netters left in 2013.

the AFL also fund our football dept.

it's not a question of $$$ or location, its merely who we choose to put in the seat. compare us to other smaller clubs and they've out performed us significantly due to how they spend their money.

RTB nailed it. it's all about how you spend your $$$. everyones on the same salary cap and soft cap.

our CEO just sucked. spending $$$ on jamie cox aint helping anyone.

In theory they are but in reality they definitely are not. Third party deals are rife in the AFL and are one of the biggest ways to reinforce the class divide between big and small clubs. Just ask the new Chief of Leadership and Performance at Morris Finance or the Cotton On Ambassador

hey i get it with Geelong, but it's not the issue we had here. We weren't terrible for so long because we didn't have a third party deal to get a decent list boss.

we were terrible because we thought we had the right people in the right positions until it was glaringly obvious how terrible they were.

we knocked back plenty of candidates because we thought we had better options. some of which went interstate to get a go.

the dogs dont have third party deal. neither do brisbane.

the lack of a third part deal isn't the reason why we sack pelchen for jamie cox ffs. keep trout going for as long as we did. or keep richo for 80 billion years.

Yawn.

Not engaging you in this again.

That reply was in response to a post about Tim. Is your reply about Tim or Trout?

Yep - typical keyboard warrior. Happy to anonymously throw shite at people - then gets all narky and precious when you get called out.

I'll happily agree that Richardson and Elshaug weren't the most successful people in their jobs but then again very few people ever are.

Yet that doesn't make me feel the need to throw shite at them. Guess that says more about me than you.

Curious to know how Elshaug destroyed our list - perhaps you can explain (with the benefit of 10 years of hindsight) how that happened?

From what I can see (aside from the few howlers that every list manager makes) he had some ridiculously bad luck with the likes of McCartin, Goddard, Carlisle, Koby Stevens even Coffield and Clark.

PS Still waiting for you to tell me the skills required to be a List Manager. Here's a job description I found that might help you

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for the role, candidates must possess the following essential skills and experience:

• Tertiary qualifications
Experience in football as a player, coach and/or administrator
• Strategic in thinking and practice
• Drive to achieve high performance and set high standards
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
