Posters were buried for suggesting to trade Swallow the last couple of years and he was actively pursuing it lol

If even we do get Lang, who does he replace in the 22? Hopefully they are all fit come round 1.

You mean after bagging the club, list management.....Brad Scott and why didnt we do this, and why didnt we do that etc etc for a few more days. You only have to survive one more day Horace ..... It will all die down then

I am trying to be more receptive to trade suggestions.

I understand all that but possibly a reason why Lang hasnt come out and said 'get me to Norf.' Maybe he sees himself as walk up start at GC or Carlton before us.Most sides would have theoretical issues fitting their best 30 or so players into the best 22, however, reality is form will fluctuate and a fair number will be injured and there will be scope to play a number of players over the course of a season.
Generally speaking, I would like to see Higgins spend more time at half-forward, he does more scoreboard damage there imo. I thought I read that Clarke will also be spending time in the back line next year, not sure if that is accurate.
You want there to be competition for spots, even when rebuilding, there is nothing worse than having to play someone because you don't have any other options.
Hibberd is a half back and Sympkin, McDonald & Mountford all play outside (which is where we want them)
Ahern aside, none of those blokes were drafted as midfielders. Lang actually was an underage midfielder.
Langs 2013 draft description
And:
Darcy Lang (Geelong Falcons)
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 79 kg
Position: Midfielder
Player comparison: Luke Ball
Strengths: Contested ball, vision, endurance
Weaknesses: Pure inside, some injury concerns
Darcy Lang is one of the most underrated players in the TAC Cup for season 2013. He plays for the Geelong Falcons and is in the same midfield as Lewis Taylor, James Tsitas and Nic Bourke which might explain why he might be considered the ‘forgotten man’ when opposition teams discuss how to stop the mighty Falcons.
Lang is similar to Tsitas in the way he buries himself under packs and gets out the hard ball time and time again to the outside midfielders such as Lewis Taylor or Matthew Boag. He doesn’t find the ball as much as Tsitas but uses it a little better in pressure situations.
He has fantastic vision from under a pack and can rapid fire a handball out to a running teammate very similar to North Ballarat’s Matt Crouch. While he might not be as highly touted as Crouch, if you were to need a similar player later in the draft, Lang might be the guy to turn to.
He does prefer to handball it a fair bit but his kicking is far from inefficient, hitting more targets than not which helps him maintain his spot in such a strong midfield. He was impressing at the Under 18s Championships before injury struck him down.
A terrible ankle injury that has ruled him out of playing football since the fateful day against Vic Metro at Etihad Stadium has seen question marks arise as to who he’ll end up athletically. From all reports so far, his injury was bad, but it shouldn’t affect his football career.
Ideally it might set him back a little bit in terms of pre-season training as he aims to build the strength and confidence he would have lost not to mention match fitness. Lang is a tough, uncompromising midfielder and it is unlikely he’ll be affected too much by the injury and just glad it didn’t need reconstructing.
Ok, fair enough......forgot to allow a few extra days for the massive fume around our inactivity to die down. Plus hypothetical trades we could have done. This board is a bit like that volcano in Bali at the moment....You mean after bagging the club, list management.....Brad Scott and why didnt we do this, and why didnt we do that etc etc for a few more days.
Yes surely competition for spots is a good thing? Would put the frighteners on Dumont for example. He then has his best pre-season and comes out firing round oneMost sides would have theoretical issues fitting their best 30 or so players into the best 22, however, reality is form will fluctuate and a fair number will be injured and there will be scope to play a number of players over the course of a season.

Eh? You mean by North and about 14-15 other sides....and theres still 2 days to go. There's been several sides who we havent even heard from. Boring trade period, period. Would of been exciting if there was bombshells from other clubs. But nothing....yet. Well not much.Another boring trade period by North oh well I suppose it's better than picking up another Anderson

And the last few years have been quite good IMO.
Plus the most sensible strategy is to keep our picks and use pick a player, ie Lang, using late picks and to improve our draft position. If you came into this trade period expecting much different....then you were always going to be disappointed mate.

WWF drama plates? Where Trump learnt his' powerful man' persona. Drama plates are fluid in afl. Luck is a lack of luck in injuries or attitude. Port Adelaide had rude health and still missed out. Drama plates only go so far. As the whole thing is stage managed for ultimate entertainment buy the afl, we are not overly relevant. A term some media duck came up with after talking to his masters. I would suggest we ask Vince McMahon about luck within an organisation. Prissy entitled people make rules that keep the advertisers. We have no powerful owners to object so there is no scope to cajole or threaten those with tents at the races. They change the brand to what the sponsors want. Barrett is on this payroll but I am not totally sure he knows It. The narrative will not suit us for a while. Not until the northern clubs roar, fulfil their full bean stalk potential, or sunburn the crap out of anyone silly enough to put a football team against them. Then we may become romantic. The afl pricks may give us some leeway with the academy picks from tassy, but it will be with a nudge. How do the clubs let such a sycophantic leadership lead them?Said a thousand times already, but that Motlop pick was criminal. I once felt sorry for Geelong playing their home final away, but receiving Pick 18 for a player they were hardly interested in resigning themselves reminded me of just how much luck has gone their way. Another sign of how far the AFL has to go.
Well the issue is that we were mostly competing with the clubs they were already at....rather than other opposition teams. We always knew Dusty was going to re-sign. And by all reports it was very close anyway and seems like Puma came to the rescue. But most of us didnt think it was going to happen. Most times players stay at their club. A lot of times people dont like change as well. UNless they're unhappy.....not getting games or not enough $$. We've only really missed out on two players.Agree with everything you've said but quite frankly I'm over hearing about players being linked to us and then choosing another side over us! Lang wants to go to Carlton.
I don't understand why no players want to come to North. The fact that we can retain so many players and no one really requests a trade unless they're on the outs (swallow) shows that our culture is really healthy and the players believe in the direction the club is headed. Can't understand what's not appealing about that?
The same can be said about Half Tonne Mom. :stern lookFlexibility and openness = good
Why? Why Taz or for that matter Cunners or Higgins? Why?
Taz has probably got at least 4 good years in front of him, Cunners 5 to 7 and Higgins at least 4.
Do people not understand that these players are established, talented AFL footballers, as opposed to unproven potential in draft picks that some are suggesting we recruit in their place.
In my view it is madness to get rid of established footballers and go heavily into a draft that in any year can be a lottery but quite possibly even more so this year. And it becomes even more of a lottery when you reduce the number of experienced capable footballers around them, so important in teaching the draft picks that we have and have to have as part of the system.
Very early on I posted that we needed to make a call on our direction and then go all in on achieving it.
We've now made the call publicly that we are going to the draft.
So I don't care how but find a way to get more top end picks, if this results in casualties to club favourites then so be it.
Except that a clear direction doesn't mean putting all your eggs in the basket of one draft. If we expect a good crop next year, we can spread our efforts out. Selling any of our best players and leaders cheaply to get more picks this year (no-one is very excited about trading, which says something) reminds me of those years clubs said they had five picks in the top 37 (or something random like that) and this single draft would set them up for future success. Has not worked out that way once.Very early on I posted that we needed to make a call on our direction and then go all in on achieving it.
