We're also going into this draft with a number of players who have played less than 15 games, and potentially one of Rankine/Lukosius/King/King and also Thomas in the 2018 draft. We have PLENTY of development potential - 4 and 23 this year are icing on all of that.

The elephant in the room isn't lack of draft picks, it's lack of resources/capability already at the club to facilitate player development.
Yeah thats completely fair. It would make sense to get out and hire extra development coaches for the next couple of years and really help improve these guys.

Sure Kingy, lets just pull first round draft picks out from between your rolls of fat. Unless of course we want to give up players like Cunners or Tarrant.

This. What an A grade A hole. Sinks the boots into us at every opportunity. If you're so concerned David what are you doing to help the club? Just taking the easy coin as a media windbag....You can guarantee that her be at the head of the queue to steam into us should we trade Cunnington or Tarrant.....

We see a lot of potential in our guys based on what we see as their skillset presents. They look at who plays in the seniors and what impact they have.

We rarely give our young guys and major responsibility so they don't have the profile.
You give the media too much credit. They look at popularity contests like rising stars, retirements and ladder positions. If they did look at our 22 weekly like you suggested, then they would of taken notice of Clarke averaging mid 20s in disposals . If he were a Carlton player, they would be fellating themselves silly over him.

Our stand alone VFL side will really help too I reckon.
Definitely is the perfect time to have one. I think the media forget that every year there are teams that will be rebuilding and theres no reason to get out and say how awful they may be next year - just accept that they are in a development mode for their young kids.

It happens every year

Clarke actually has similar numbers to Lachie Weller but is 12 months younger.

Weller apparently worth pick 2.

Clark a late 3rd rounder :/

He's definitely not telling the whole story, thats for sure. Unless he's mrs is such a bitch and/or he's mega pussywhipped that he's too scared by her if it doesnt get done ;P

Cornes: “It’s going to be a world of pain for North Melbourne”

The Kangaroos saw the likes of Brent Harvey, Michael Firrito, Nick Dal Santo, Daniel Wells and Drew Petrie leave last year and have already parted ways with Sam Gibson and Aaron Mullett this off-season.

Additionally, the futures of Todd Goldstein, Andrew Swallow and Lindsay Thomas are in question which suggests to Cornes that there are some tough times ahead at Arden Street.

“We’re presuming they (Goldstein, Swallow & Thomas) are going to struggle to make the best 22 and be overlooked for younger players at North Melbourne,” he said on NAB AFL Trade Radio this morning.

“That’s what it sounds like.

“All three already in their careers (have been dropped). It could be a long year for them.

“The only reason they are at the footy club is because they’re contracted.

“It’s going to be a world of pain for North Melbourne next year, unfortunately.

“They’ll be worse than this year.

“The issue for me, it’s not as if they are the Brisbane Lions who have got these draft picks. Brisbane have pick 1 and all these picks inside the first round – North Melbourne don’t.

“They’ve got one pick – pick 4 – you’d want to hope that’s a good player and they’ve got some salary cap room to attract a free agent next year.

“North Melbourne fans, I’m concerned. I think it’s going to an ugly couple of years.”

LOL. Was Cornes jerking off while being interviewed for this piece?

In all honesty, we don't tend to promote fact we have been involved in the draft during selection. As I have said numerous times, I will believe in a club wide change of philosophy if when all players are fit, the midfield group in the centre square is very different to last year rather than playing around on the flanks. Every NM spokesman has spoken about needing to add pace and skill in the middle. That tells me that we need to have at least one of Mountford, Simpkin etc in the square at all times with 1 or 2 of Cunnington, Dumont or Ziebell.

One of my more enjoyable losses this year was against the Saints watching Mountford in the middle, I was surprised it was not tried more.

what exactly has he said that is incorrect?

Its not that it's incorrect.

It's the faux concern, the "oh, how sad" attitude barely masking the delight they so obviously have that we're down and look like being there for a bit.

I don't need Kane Cornes to be concerned for my football club. I need Kane Cornes' opinion on NMFC like I need a hemisphere of my brain removed.

That it is going to be an ugly few years. Organic growth and improvement from a list happens quite a lot. What could we have done, even two years ago, besides selling Goldy, as we wouldn't have got any decent picks anyway for the older veterans. It's a simple case of rebuilding.

Find me one Lions supporter who would swap their last five years with ours.

They are a model we should aspire to according to Fireman Kane. Finish on the bottom and repeatedly lose players, resulting in more picks.
