I think we can't run with 2 soft pure outside players on the wing in Jetta and Gaff. It's time we bring Shep up the park to a wing. He's fearless, got great hands and speed and at 187cm can compete with most in the air. We haven't had a versatile wing like that who can push forward or back and impact since Embley retired. Tom Cole looks ready to replace him down back.

Or Nelson?

Nelson lacks composure down back where Shep and Cole have what it takes.

Nelson would add pace and mongrel.

Round 1 assuming we don't get any of these injury doubtfuls back...

B: Shep Schofield Hurn
HB: Yeo Gov Duggan
C: Gaff Redden Hutchings
HF: Masten McInnes Cripps
F: Rioli Darling LeCras
R: Lycett Shuey Sheed

I: Cole, Waterman, Brander, Nelson/Ainsworth

E: Ainsworth/Nelson, Venables, Watson, Brayshaw/Mutimer

All these injuries are testing our depth severely already and we haven't bounced a ball. We have quite a few project players and a few who just aren't gonna make it.

What happened to Barrass?

Shep is so good down back im not sure a move to the wing will be make us better.

I like Cole and think he deserves a solid run from round 1 and lets develop him down back for a year or two and if he is capable maybe move him to a wing?

He probably forgot to take it off after a blade session.

On the B22, seems like a fair bit of it is locked down

B: Sheppard Barrass Hurn
HB: Jetta McGovern Duggan
C: Sheed Redden Gaff
HF: Rioli Darling Cripps
F: LeCras Kennedy/Waterman Naitanui/McInnes
R: Lycett Yeo Shuey

I: Cole Hutchings

With Yeo and Duggan both spending time in the midfield and defence.

Blokes fighting for the last two spots: Venables, Ryan, Watson, Ainsworth, Masten, Partington

Cant see Masten or Partington getting a go Rd 1 unless something extreme happens this weekend.

They rate Venables quite highly so I think he will be given a go. You would think Ryan will be played too.

Watson, Ainsworth and Waterman for emergencies based off that

I agree that Shep is probably too good down there but we limited Hurn's career with that logic. Hurn should have scored a wing as soon as Braun and Embley retired. He would have hit the forwards lace out from the back of the square in transition. Instead JK and co had Masten and Gaff on the wings for 5 years chipping it 40m, unable to clear the half forward line.

Shep only has a career because he was moved down back. He was given plenty of opportunities up the ground and always looked lost or inconsistent. We tout versatility but he is one who should definitely remain where he is, as he has put together 3 pretty consistent seasons.

Hurn was always touted as a player that had potential as a mid but at the same time having a player with excellent kicking skills and a more than capable defensive side to his game he has been more than handy down back.

I missed most of the game on Sunday but I am yet to be wowed by Cole. Don't understand the hype. Genuinely discouraged by Nelson so it's time to try him elsewhere (he hasn't looked too bad when given a burst on ball, and could play defensive to let Hutch off the chain if they're both in the same side at any point) and maybe give Cole a block of games to see what he can do.
He was easily in our top 5 on the weekend. In saying that I prefer him up the ground and I think he'd do well on a wing or on Mastens HFF

Hurn was touted as a mid but had hamstring issues in his early years that restricted him training / putting in big km. He was moved to half back and excelled.

I to missed the game on Sunday and would like to know if Masten played and if so how did he go?.
Tried his left foot and failed horribly on a couple occasions. Was serviceable without doing anything brilliant for the rest. Doubtful he made much impression on the coaches

I would like to see the club take some risks at the selection table, they've used our 3rd pick in the draft on a mature forward pocket specialist in Ryan and our first 2 picks on talls, when we were screaming out for a quality mid. Having made that decision they should back that in and play Ryan and Rioli Rd 1. Venables should also be given the opportunity to strut his stuff given we invested our top pick in him in the 2016 draft.
If I see Masten on one HFF and LeCras on the other come Rd 1, there will be a keyboard riot on bigfooty!
Cole and Watson are deserving of an opportunity too.
Time to show some balls match committee!

Do you think Brander is in mix for rd1

No chance IMO.

He might get a run this Sunday though. I suppose that would give him a chance to impress.
I'd be playing Brander for sure. He's got some size about him. Give him a taste of AFL early so he knows what's required. No point putting any more game time into Schofield, or McInnes.
