Some had him at pick 9 if the Bombers missed out on Shiel.

There's always a late bolter (Bont, Oliver). Even a Duursma might rise late into early teens calculations, he finished the season well by all accounts.

They also lost Prestia, O'Meara, Ablett, and don't really have bonafied replacements for any of them. They also statistically have the worst midfield in the competition, despite having a pretty decent ruckman in Witts.

But they've also got Sam Day, Rory Thompson, Peter Wright, who are all pretty good players. They are 99.9% getting Lukosius too.

Bailey Smith is exactly what they need right now; they need him significantly more than we need him too. As it stands right now, I cannot see them not taking him at 6, and that likely leaves us with King, who is a damn good player and fills our needs better.

We should trade our future first and 27 / 32 for gold coasts pick 6 imo. They have an excess of picks this draft compared to next and should be looking to balance it out.

Picks 6 and 7 should net us two of smith, king and Rozee which would be an amazing haul with west and Khamis as well. Power needs to step up his game and get it done after an underwealming trade period.

Supposedly more suited to back, but played forward pretty much all of this year after Max did his ACL and he was dominant.

He passes the character test also.
Considered the most professional of the batch who over obsseses on footy and does everything to get the best out of himself.

Yeah at the time of the combine I said his speed had really pricked my interest.

I watched all of his Championship games this year, he is 100% more than capable of becoming a gun key-forward. Has all the forward instincts nailed to a tee, and he lead the goalscoring tally in the championships. Being able to play well in defence and ruck is a bonus.

The reason I’m asking is because it’s highly likely the big 3 SA kids go in the top 5, and rumour has that Gold Coast are keen on Caldwell at pick 6. If they go that way, it means Ben king and Smith will still be on the board, and Adelaide could pick whoever you don’t.
Personally I’d love to get Smith if we don’t trade up for Rankine.

I’d say if Smith is available to us at 7, we will take him. Even over King.

Interesting. I wouldn’t mind doing this. Depends how we think we’ll go next year. Will we be bottom 6? Another way to look at it is, is pick 6 this year better than say pick 4 next year if we finish that low in 2019? I have no idea about the quality of next years draft but from all reports the top 7 of this years draft would be top 5 or even top 3 in any other year

If I’m the Saints and Rankine is there at 4 I’m taking Rankine every time.

Yeh each to their own I guess. Just going by what I saw of him in championships and what some of his coaches have told me.

I think any true Gun AFL forward has an ability to pack mark and Im not sure that given I cant see him ever filling out that will be Ben. More so he may play more like Hipwood from the Lions as a forward who is always going to be limited because of his lack of muscle and size.

Under this scenario the saints would be simply mad not to put a gun (figure of speech) to the head of the crows and the power when it comes to pick 4.
They say - we are about to pick rozee/rankine.
You either give us a 1st rounder in 2 years time to get him in a trade
OR you give us a second rounder and pick 5 now for pick 4.
Easy way to grab a free pick and everyone is a winner.

Thats why I liked it when port held the pick after ours - yet the buggers went and traded up.

I'm tipping a J-Mac special bid at pick 19 now the Giants hold it.

After discount that puts the bid at 758, approximately pick 25. Pick 27 is 703 points which is a 55 point deficit, putting our pick 32 (584) back to 529 points, about pick 34-35. That's close to Khamis' range and just after some have O'Halloran sliding to (Twomey has him at pick 30, I'd be over the moon if he slipped to us).

There are quite a few who could slip through to there I'd like to have a look at.

what the knock on Khamis, why does he slip so late in the draft?

He really looks a player from the footage I’ve seen. I reckon he will be a steal
