With pick 5 up for grabs (Neale/Hogan/May trades) - which club do we want to have pick 5 that’s least likely to draft bailey smith? I feel that’s the pick that’s gonna hurt us.

Dees.
They miss out on May and will take B King.
Freo if they miss out on Hogan, likely take Smith to replace Neale.
GC likely to take Smith, to avoid losing B King to the team that drafts his brother.

On Foxfooty last night Leigh Montagna speculated that the bulk of the top 10 picks will change between now and the end of the trade period. Trying to guess who'll have what at this stage is very difficult.

Get Adelaide in there

You are overrating Bailey Smith. If he "falls" to our pick, there's a reason for that.

Just wish we had another pick in the 20's. West is a good pick up, but would love to get my hands on one of Sturt (Medium forward who can take a grab, class and a solid left boot), Stocker (mature, future leader potential, decent ball use both feet), Smith (Absolute bull in the midfield, not sure how his ball use is, but we could do with a bull alongside extra class in the midfield, need depth) Should any of those three slide.
If we get 32 for Adams I wonder if we will try and package that with 27 for a higher pick on draft night before West is picked. Something between 17 and 20 and that clubs 3rd or 4th rounder (if West still on table) for 27 and 32.

Just like there was a reason Bont fell to pick 4? Overrating/underrating will be judged in hindsight. Think of it as an Xmas wish list, some people want a new bike, some people want some matchbox cars. Despite the fact they're different presents, if each person got the top thing on their list, then that's not to say one is automatically worse than the other.

Bont didn't fall to pick 4, he bolted to it. I remember in the leadup to the draft, most people had him going 9-15, then Collingwood got strongly linked at 6, then we got strongly linked at 4.

I just think people get drawn into the hype a bit too easily, maybe because Knightmare rates him at #2 ahead of Walsh. In my opinion, Smith isn't the one we should be excited about slipping, especially with West coming in.

Kids with strong work ethic make it in this caper. The kid has it in spades. Add to that he’s a great kick, has burst speed and is a bull at the gate. He doesn’t fill our most pressing need but adding him and West will have our midfield set for a decade. I’d be ecstatic to land him

yeah, I can see that - hes a bit scrappy inside the contest and seems to want to bust out of traffic rather than slip thru it - kind of reminds me of an early Callan Ward in that respect. But he would be very good on the spread with his speed and kicking.

A few seasons working on a sidestep and 'handball club' might round him out nicely?

So funny you bring up the ward comparison as thats what I have seen in him also.
In one of his highlights videos he hits a bullet pass that is low and hard exactly like ward kicks.
Even his movement and his handballing in close reminded me of Callan

If Brisbane keep pick 6 they will surely take Smith after all their love for Walsh earlier in the season. They want mids.

We’re all assuming that ends up at GC via Neale, Hogan, May.
It's a big if - Freo seem intent on keeping Neale, easy to forger that in the past 3 years he won their B&F twice and came runner up once.

Even the deal above probably relies on Collingwood upping their offer for Beams so Brisbane can satisfy Freo. Then Freo also have to up their contract offer to Hogan.

Neale about to go to Lions any minute now. Lions and GC done a deal for pick 19 so no reliance on Pies.

Just saw that, Gold Coast are mad. We should ask for Steven May in exchange for some delicious magic beans.

Twomey said on trade radio that he expects a bid to happen for West around the 17-25 mark. It might be nice to get another pick before then.

Geelong have no 2nd round picks so maybe we could do a deal with them similar to the Ed Richard's deal from last year which was...
Western Bulldogs trade picks 28 and 30 and their 2018 second-round pick
For Carlton's picks 16 and 40.

So would you do something like this again? Eg. Pick 27 + pick 32 (Adams trade) + future 2nd round pick for pick 12.

If so what player would you like to take in this range?

depends entirely on who we rate - no use going lower if the guy we want is going to be there anyway, like the Dunkley deal.

Bloody freo tanked to get a draft spot ahead of us, they get the first rookie

Which is why we need to cut Honeychurch and take Cavarra in the main draft. HC is a hard worker and is endeavour personified but he kills us as a forward and doesn't have the skills as a midfielder.

This. I'm happy to commit to re-rookieing him, but he's been on the list for 5 years now and still isn't in the best 22. He shouldn't be occupying the list spot of a potentially very good small forward.

Ben Cavarra at pick 32? It's a stretch, but that looks like it'll be our only live pick along with 7, unless a big for Khamis comes earlier.
