Guys just a question our academy is linked to Murray Bushrangers and Bendigo Pioneers. So why doesn't Caldwell for example come under it from the pioneers ?.

Having a look at our later picks in the 60's etc..

Don't mind the look of Laitham Vandermeer, Rily Bowman, Tom Berry, Harry Reynolds, Jacob Koschitzke amongst others in the vision from the draft machine. I think the odd gem could be snagged late. I didn't mind the look of Daly Andrews either I think and Riley Grundy, brother of the Collingwood ruckman, he reminded me a bit of Darren Gaspar. Not sure he has his speed but I think Snoop dog in his phantom said he had reasonable closing speed. I think I seen a bit of talent in a few others that are worth a punt to, some with interrupted seasons or come up late and so forth that drop off the radar

Just watched the highlights of McHenry.... He's pretty much Dimma's wet dream (tackling machine who runs both ways). This definitely has legs.

Well it makes it interesting. If we got him they all can't fit in the same team can they? Especially over time so something will have to give. There seems to be a bit of talent around our first. Thats why I think if at 17 where we know who is there left if it suits us to trade our 2019 first for say GWS picks 19 and 25( or order equivalents) and GWS want to do it, it might not be a bad idea. Even a guy like Valente thats quite well rounded probably will not quite last to our first one would think especially with the SA teams before us

McHenry - fits our game plan to a T. We have a few of these sprt of guys. But more is better. Our VFL team will be light on for small forwards, and we need depth if we want to play three small forwards. Especially if Rioli moves into the center more.

I can see why we'd want 2 picks in the 20s. We'd get McHenry and a good mid this year. Lovely.

He must not be indigenous and his parents must not have been born overseas I guess

Just on O'Halloran for 2018 in the TAC he averaged
18.8 disposals
13 contested possessions
5.5 clearances
4.7 tackles

IMO it's a lot easier to teach a kid how to go out and find space to win more uncontested footy than trying to teach an uncontested player how to win more contested footy. Brandon Ellis is a perfect example of that. Has no trouble finding the footy when in space, but put him in situations where he is winning the ball in tight and he becomes a panic merchant.

For mine I've liked Valente since the champs, became an O'Halloran fan as the season started to wind down and whispers about a list clean out and he was projected as being a second round option, now that he has climbed into first round calculations I'm still wanting Valente first up, then O'Halloran then Stocker and finally Smith.

If we could do the 2 for 1 trade that gets us a couple of 20s picks and we could land 2 of them then we're going to be kissed on the pecker and will in the last 3 years have landed our future KPPs (Garthwaite Balta Miller) ruck(CCJ) and midfielders(Graham Higgins Naish and 1-2 of Valente O'Halloran Stocker Smith)
Seems great stats but prefer Stocker and Sparrow and our last pick would be Hanlohan not o'Halloran, outside midfielder and and another ruckman

Just because you play for a TAC cup side, it does not mean you are linked to an academy... (unless you are GWS, correct me if I am wrong.) Academy players come from non football and indigenous backgrounds.

Best available at our pick simple as that.We don't need small forwards we need inside grunt. Can't go past Valente or Dawkins or Stocker if there.
I wouldnt go best available. If best available is a KPF they are sitting behind Lynch, Riewoldt, Balta and Moore. I wouldnt take a KPD or a small forward either with our first pick.

We need the best big bodied inside midfielder available at our first pick.

Haha great I tipped this!!! We need a tagger to limit other teams gun mids and stop them getting high possies.

We just delisted one guy who has the right mindset to be an excellent tagger. Big and strong and plenty of mongrel and could hurt the other way in the scoreboard. MYbe he doesn't have a big enough tank otherwise he seems the obvious choice. Brando could certainly keep up but with him its all about mindset.

Yep, unless it's for a Northern Club it seems. E.g Blakey....

From what I gather, we want Stocker at 17. If he’s not there, we’ll then look to trade 17 for a couple of picks in the 20’s and get McHenry and hopefully O’Halloran/Ely Smith
Given RobsJourney 's post re: his Dad being at the info night i'd be surprised if this wasn't the case. Given live trading etc i'd be guessing we are keeping our cards very close which is how it should be. I recall a couple of yrs ago it was well known at this stage (week out) who we were taking but recent yrs have been much better in that regard.

You're contradicting yourself there. Best available talent means anything, not a positional thing. I agree with what you are saying, but it isnt the best available, its the best insider at that pick, which isnt the same thing.
