Pick 77 Adelaide: Connor Idun

A couple years ago i would have thought "hmm not much place for a low 190's cm backman who plays tall" but these days and i think going forward they will be needed more. The 3rd tall mobile marking forward is all the rage these days ie Lynch, DeGoey, Caddy, Gunston etc. So someone to play on those types will be handy.

Idun played on Ben King and Jack Lukosius in the Champs and neither took control of him. Idun was solid on both. According to Idun and his coach, Idun loves the challenge of playing on the best players and has requested them all year. Nice. His coach put forward that he plays a bit like Josh Gibson.

He showed necessary traits at the Combine if he is to make it at AFL level at his height. 2.94 sprint and good in the jump. So that backs the eye that he can maybe compete with very good players. He also showed versatility after the Champs by playing forward for the Falcons and doing well and also played a bit around the ground.

At Pick 77 he's a nice chance and is where you can find a component backman sometimes.

Pick 78 - Tom Lewis

Another young mid for the Tigers here.

Don’t need anything urgently but wanted a few who can add to that midfield depth which took a bit of a hit.

Most expect them to go a mid with their first, I went against that here, but think there’s plenty to work with in Rowbottom, Joyce and now Lewis.

You’re up ScottoP

Was tossing up between, Andrews, Lewis and a couple of others

Safe selection, this far out in the draft

Great pick, he was another I was eyeing off, alongside a few still on the board. Great depth in this draft.

Lewis is one I was thinking of picking with the Bombers last pick if he was still on the board.

Will take 18 months to be ready for AFL level despite his inside ability and footy IQ, and the challenge would be tempering his desire to play at that level immediately upon being drafted.

His ability to win on the inside and feed it out is fairly unique, but the way in which he balances himself to do so leaves him flat-footed for the next option.

Unfortunately his speed and engine are nowhere near ready to get to 60+ contests a game right now and he can't play anywhere else.

GCS Pick 82 - Tom Bugg

Picked some really good young talent so have gone for a mature body especially since losing Lyons. 26 next season, been in the system and hard at it. Will really help Swallow & Miller whilst younger players develop. Can tag and can go forward and kick goals. Very good as a small defender as well.

Has that bit of mongrel and hardness that GCS need

Pick 83 Adelaide: Tyron Smallwood

Smallwood has been a gun junior in the system since U15's. Last year he was BOG kicking 3 goals from the centre as an U17 in the WA Southern senior GF as a teammate of Jordan Clark i believe.

This year his early season was halted due to a broken jaw and went into the Champs off a limited prep but performed well. He has shown good progression all year, starting with 2 Colts games before the Champs and one afterwards averaging 20 possies and 6 tackles. He then got called up to Claremont reserves and kicked 10 goals as a small forward in 4 games. Then he got picked in the WAFL Seniors for the last game and 2 finals in which he reportedly impressed.

While not outright quick for a small forward he seems to look quick enough in a game. For those who haven't seen him he has a touch of Gav Wanganeen about him. Good overhead, good hunting tackler, good endurance and natural instinct.

Not totally sure he'll make it at AFL level or just be a Top WAFL player, but he could be a great find like a Walters who has a similar game and was drafted late after not setting testing alight.

A punt, but a punt with a better chance than most imo.

Jimmae up next for *

Pick #69 Collingwood - Sam Fisher (Northern Blues)

I really don't know at this stage. Memory of who I liked has somehow deserted me and players I wanted, well gone.
At least I watched Fisher and felt at times that there was something there worth developing.....and at other times, not so much so....Anyway.

Jimmae
Sam Fisher to the the Wobbles??? Harker, you have a lot to answer for :p

By the way, no one picked up Michael Gibbons yet? Thought we may have gone for him with our last pick given Harker pinched Sammy Fisher from under our noses :D

I think guys like Fisher, Gibbons, Hind, Bolton, etc, will be available in the rookie draft

Pick 84 - Essendon - Brayden Ham

Was originally going to pick Vandermeer, but have opted for Ham for similar reasons, and he probably has more scope. Runner up to Walsh in the Falcons' B&F, in what was largely a lacklustre Falcons team that still made it into the TAC finals. Probably needs more work on his kicking than some similar players still on the board, but takes the game on, and had some dominant displays both in midfield and up forward through the season.

Very lean build, but will add to that in the weights room and may bring a little more impact inside as a result.

You're up Pablito

Don't disagree with that and I get the feeling our position will look something like this:

ND - 3 live picks + 1 DFA

RD - Ben + Hickmott boys/Lamb

Be interested to know if we are keen on Hickmott. If we get 3 more younger players in draft I just feel we need to add another mature 25 year old or 2 to help our list
