Diehard....what was said on this subject?

No real details, but that afl were unhappy that we still supposedly had such a large one.

Someone did quote Matthew Lloyd saying that sacking the coach would possibly cost less than the loss of members and sponsors if we kept him.

I do wonder if the public clubbing we got at the start of the year had anything to do with it?

Remind me what you are talking about? I can’t remember.

Thanks for that Diehard....I suspect that we won't make any sort of dent in our debt after this horrid year.

It'll be very interesting to see what impact the new stadium deal has on our bottom line.

Also of interest will be our cashflow situation.

T KILDA football director Andrew Thompson is set to resign as the embattled Saints prepare for major off-season upheaval.

It has emerged that retired stars Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna have been recently sounded out about returning to assist the club.

As St Kilda reviews every facet of its failing football program, Brett Ratten is firming to join Alan Richardson’s coaching team in 2019.

BUMP BAN: SEASON OVER FOR SAINTS DEFENDER

INJURY CURSE: THE UNLUCKIEST PLAYERS IN THE AFL

COSTLY DEFEATS: THE LOSS THAT COST YOUR CLUB MOST

PRIVATE MEETING: GAFF DELIVERS APOLOGY AND FLOWERS

The highly-respected Hawthorn assistant and ex-Carlton coach has spent six seasons honing under four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson the tactical acumen the Saints are desperate to add.

Saints forwards coach Rohan Welsh, midfield coach Simon McPhee and defensive coach Lindsay Gilbee have already been moved on.

Veteran football boss Graeme “Gubby” Allan is also being considered to head up a revamped recruiting department alongside newly-appointed list boss James Gallagher.

Thompson, who played 221 games for the Saints, has served on the St Kilda board since 2007 and overseen a decade of decision-making in the football department.

Close to league chief Gillon McLachlan, Thompson led the 2014 review that triggered the sacking of coach Scott Watters.

Ex-Saint Dean Anderson will remain on the Peter Summers-led board with a second retired player to be added in coming months.

Speculation is growing that Summers will also step down as part of an imminent board reshuffle.

Other Saints directors include Andrew Bassat, Jack Rush, QC, Russell Caplan, Liz Dawson, Danni Roche, Paul Kirk and chief executive Matt Finnis.

While football boss Simon Lethlean has backed Richardson to keep his job, heavy losses against Hawthorn and North Melbourne in the final two games could yet force St Kilda’s hand.

Fourteen of St Kilda’s 15 defeats this season have been by more than 24 points.

They will miss the finals for a seventh-straight season — two under Watters and five under Richardson.

The Saints have declared an interest in Sydney premiership star Dan Hannebery, rising West Coast free agent Scott Lycett and injury-plagued Geelong forward Daniel Menzel.

Richardson last week declared his club would be big players in the off-season.

“We want to be bold and aggressive,” Richardson said.

“We want to make sure we’re leaving no stone unturned to win our second flag.”

But coaching great Mick Malthouse launched a withering weekend attack on St Kilda’s recruiting philosophies, saying the club’s interest in Hannebery was misguided.

“His body is gone,” Malthouse said.

“He is an old 27-year-old. He would be one of the last players I would pick.

“It’s a typical reaction from to the Saints, and you get so disappointed with their selections at times.

“You think it’s been a long time since 1966 to win a premiership.

“What has taken place? Is this (Hannebery interest) going to be a repeat of making a bad move?”

That tells us a lot about the coaching and player development.

This is what has to rectified. Immediately.

It shows that Trout was disastrous and Pelican before him. The two of them destroyed our list through average trades and poor drafting.

Compare the 2014 draft for Melbourne and St Kilda

Saints take Paddy, Hugh, Mc Kenzie and Lonie.

Melbourne get Petracca, Brayshaw, Neil- Bullen and Oscar Mc Donald.

They got 2 high level players who are potential stars, Neil- Bullen is a solid B and Oscar Mc Donald is best 22 tall with further scope to develop. We got a FF who might make it, a delister in Goddard, a potential good player in Mc Kenzie and Lonie who we tried once to off load and is uncontracted despite playing okay recently.

That was a draft hand that should have got at least one high level player. De Goey looks the pick of the top 10 at this point but Brayshaw closing on him.

Who from the afl rates blues list above ours?
We had a worse draw and sit higher.....and flogged em, with injures!!

And our list is worse?
If it is then their coach needs to go not ours lol

It's the age that holds them back. They have the most first round picks of any side in history this year. They have three genuine guns under 25 in Docherty, Curnow and Cripps. All three are elite.

We have Gresham who might be. Last year Roberton was probably our best player, he's possibly gone. Carlton chose to go backwards by letting go of Gibbs, Docherty going down compounded the situation.

This is the bullshit that I’m so worried about. Summers honestly believes we have a great list, great coaches and scratches his head as to why we’re at the bottom of the ladder. At first I thought he was just protecting his terrible decisions, but after the year went on and I asked the same questions - the same answers were regurgitated. The best thing that can happen is he steps down once the final siren has gone on our last game. He has no idea how to oversee a football club and one of the main reasons we’re in this mess.

I’m championing Basset to step up, but unsure he’ll take it due to commitments. Hard nosed campaigner that will make the tough calls. Not a fan of Richo and has been the strongest for action. I just hope it happens i time to start the new year fresh.

The more you hear about Rattan the better it gets. Richo doesn’t like him and they didn’t get along at Carlton. Well knock me down with a sledgehammer, that’s the best reference a candidate could have.

That's strange - I read it and thought it said we were getting Ratten, Allan and were going to be aggressive in the trade/draft period, that some board members were standing down and the Chair was looking at resigning.

Summers standing down not the only solution. Rattan not guaranteed, we were aggressive last years trade period and nothing happened, again.

All words at this point. Except Summer has informed the board he’s stepping down.
