Hannebery would be the biggest leader type we have, he'd be worth it on that alone. We need onfield leadership because right now it just isn't there.

Problem if he can’t get on the field though?

Gringo beat me to it

- small supporter base
- clubhouse & rooms are a construction zone
- inferior coaching panel
- list void of elite level players
- Outdated gameplan
- poor player development
- losing culture
- 1 flag in 122 seasons
- no finals in 7 seasons

I had to wait 17 years to watch them play finals.

As for the construction site, I reckon you're jealous because it's going up quicker than your renovations...

Soft as you young'uns

Will this one do?

Actually hope this stings the soft ***** at the Saints and we come out breathing fire with something to prove. Gaff had better like being down the bottom at the Roos. They will still fall away in a few years.
I think the opposite. They have an elite base of 3 players to start with & build around

Brown
Tarrant
Cunnington

If they landed Gaff, that would be 4

Then have another bracket of very good players in Goldstein, Ziebell, Macmillan

Then have the likes of McDonald, Dumont, Anderson, Ahern, Simpkin, LDU, Wood, Clarke as gun youth

Then Durdin & McKay as KP depth

Then have picks 9, 27, 40 (from us FFS) & 53 in this year’s draft

They’ll be fine going forward

And that’s exactly my point. They are petty as **** reasons but they are spot on

The last thing I’m worried about this year is who we may pick up in trade week... My concern is who of our good young players may want out after this absolute shitshow of a season where we internally had aimed for top 4 with top 8 at a minimum

I was never a fan of Gaff until this season, always saw him as a bit of a seagull - taken his game to a whole new level though, can win it inside and outside as well as hurt you on the scoreboard, and is a beautiful kick. $1.2m is a lot of money, and overs right now but if he's not even willing to come to us for slightly more we're in a spot of bother. That said, if he did end up going to Norf (who have to land one sooner or later) that would surely take them out of the Kelly equation?

Could we even offer Kelly $1.7 for his first two years and then $1.3-4 for the next two after that (approx 6.2m/4)? Contracts are getting bigger every year, we have the cap space and it's only a matter of time before top end players are earning that much anyway.

Also not sure if it was mentioned earlier today but WB have confirmed an offer is on the table for Wallis - as expected, he's off the table. New deal incoming for Libba too.

Well if they get Gaff, they won't get Kelly.

And optimal words are 'rumour mill'

and Brian’s man is called the “Northern Spy “for a reason .

North will be desperate for guys down the spine.

Tarrant , Waite , Thompson , gone there ain’t much in the cupboard.

Cunnington is no more elite than Stuv, or Seb last year. He is also 27 years old so they would want to be building that team very quickly.
Robbie Tarrant is in the same part as Carlisle, except he turns 30 in April, so again, need to build super quickly.

Their next bracket of very good players is no different to ours, except ours are younger. And their "gun youth" have produced less than our "poorly developed and drafted" youth.
Picks 27 and 40 are negligible in the grand scheme of a list, that them having those picks where we dont would make no difference in building this list.

North have a very, very average list and a spine and best players are nearing the twilight of their careers. Brad Scott is just a fantastic coach to be able to get the best out of their average player.

We don't have a small supporter base either.

Factually wrong.

This is as wrong as saying JOM won't play again.

Pretty sure I said I believed he'd be lucky to play another 50 games.... I could still be right ;)

We do have a small supporter base. We have a large 'fan' base though. Low crowd numbers week to week show this

Hawthorn or Collingwood or even Richmond will land Kelly. They just seem to have endless salary cap.

Like I said, they'll be fine. They have some elite players to build around & are a far more attractive option right now compared to us so should be able to improve significantly if they were to add the likes of Gaff end of this year & Kelly end of next. Both have a high chance of occurring

I'd love it not to be the case, but we are on the nose & have been since this time last year. I don't know how we fix it other than to get the current playing group improving dramatically from within to at least an 11-12 win team next year

Have heard that Wallis wants 4 years and the Dogs are only offering 2.
Either way, he's staying put.

Oh god, wah, wah, wah, woe is us. fm what a bunch of whinging bitch supporters.

Oh no we are a rabble, oh no everyone wants to play at other clubs.

Simple go support somewhere else.

either that or you can go and join the judian people's front - splitters.
**** off.. It's the People's Front of Judea or GTFO...

It's amazing everyone thinks we can't draw a good player due to our club is just rabble.
This can change very quickly - we have performed shockingly this year no doubt about that - but our list is actually just about stronger than it has ever been.
Just about 75 per cent of the squad has potential - all just about under 24, they all say we don't have no stars , well that could change very quickly.
There is huge potential in Steele , Gresham , Long , Billings , Hunter , Coffield , Sinclair , McKenzie , Acres , Battle , Marshall , Paton , White , Phillips , Clavarino , Austin , Freeman , McCartin - that is 18 kids and anyone one of them could be a star of the game.
We have some current players who are very good as in Steven , Carlisle , Webster , Membery and Ross , so if a few of these kids step up we will be in very good shape.

After the end of the season we will see if we use our round one draft pick for a top line player or get another good kid - but the squad we have is looking good - you can't expect to kick arse with a bunch of 22yr olds with very few good leaders - sometime might be required if we can't pick up a top player but things are looking up.

We have got a professional in place now who will make the hard calls and he has already wielded the axe with the assistant coaches and has brought in a professional to organize our salary cap and ensure we have the best chance to pick up the best players available.

Things are not that bad

There was research done that Finnis has quoted stating that St.Kilda has a supporter base just less than Richmond's.
Richmond won a flag and have 100k members.

Your statement is factually incorrect unless you have a researched report that refutes what Finnis quoted.

After playing finals in 2015 Richmond finished 13th in 2016. They were able to attract Prestia, Caddy and Nankervis in 2017 and win a premiership. Things can turn around quickly for us........I hope !! Damn it's hard to be a saints supporter

Your opinion mate have different one.

Don’t see players desperately wanting to play in Hobart in July , their membership numbers are not great
North would give their right testicle for a guy like Carlisle we got him , they wanted Steele we got him too
RSEA Park as a facility will shit all over it , and with the opportunity with Vacant land all the way to South
Road to get even bigger.

Build it and they will come .

Stkilda need to finally get their act together “ off field “ no more head nodders on the board .
There are Drake & Huggins types out there , particularly when we have Bayside at our doorstep.
Get off field right on field follows it always does with football clubs.

Totally agree with this, we have a lot of talent on our list but they are all young. Losing Roo and Joey i think kind of freaked them out at the start of this season and having one gun mid / winger would make a huge difference. All these guys will be improving until around 26 or 27 so organically we will improve a lot. Freeman is also a wild card, has the potential for exactly what we currently need at his best, just had bad luck woth injury. Better cohesion with more games together will also organically improve the team. How much have we chopped and changed our forward structure this year?

I reckon you are underselling them a bit. They don't have much depth but they have some excellent to elite players. Brown, Higgins, Ziebell, Cunnington, Goldy, Tarrant etc. They have a few old guys playing excellent seasons and some of their riskier pick ups are paying off like Ahern, Mason wood etc. Even Majak Dor looks good these days. I would say what they lack is quality depth and elite midfield depth in particular. They have a very even side though and have less holes than us.

They have an elite tall forward, have an A grade forward mid, an elite ruck and an a grade tall back. Cunnington is an elite inside mid and Higgins is elite inside/outside mid. If you have one excellent player across every position on the ground then you should be able to compete reasonably well against most teams.

We have Carlisle who is more a loose intercepter but close to elite, and Stuv a close to elite inside/ outside mid and Gresh an elite small forward mid. We are light on for talent everywhere else. We might develop because we have youth on our side but we aren't attractive to players looking for a team that will play finals. We could still be in the wilderness for a while yet.

You sound like Kathy....

Keep your head in the sand & never point out a bad thing about the club because that's what true supporters do.

Lol

Ben Brown, Higgins and Goldstein are the only two that have who are any better than the equivalents in our own team.
Except we have better youth who have shown more talent to this stage of their careers. Cunnington can not be called elite if Stuv is not considered elite or Seb last year wasnt elite. What they have that we dont is a top tier coach and experienced players to carry most of their side.

One year is a long time in football. Last year we were a young side looking to take that step into finals and North were locking in the bottom four. With some fresh voices in the coaches box and trading in an experienced player, there is no reason why we cant be finals bound next year.
