Key words here are "after playing finals in 2015...."

Things can turn around quickly, but let's stop making out like we're gonna do a Richmond. Richmond were a solid 6-8th team that had a shit 2016. They also had the benefit of having a super leader, former Brownlow medallist & captain in Cotchin (just don't kick into the wind in an away elim final Trent), the best player in the league in Martin, the best defender in the league in Rance, and a top 5 in the league key forward in Jack Riewoldt.

4 guys who are amongst the elite of the absolute elite.

Their development of other players has been out of this world too. Kane Lambert puts up elite numbers week to week. Caddy is having his best year ever. Jacob Townsend was destined for the scrap heap then came in as a defensively forward & blitzed it.

We've got a lot of work to do & I believe it starts in the coaches box & is great to see we've already wielded the axe on 3. Thank god Peta Searle was moved out of the young player development role she was in up until this year too.

I'm happy we've identified our flaws & are beginning the process of ironing them out, but this is just the beginning. With some tweak some to our game style & natural development of the players we have, we should be looking for a 10-11 win season next year & that's if we get it all right.

The future looks ok, but we need to make ourselves a more attractive destination by improving both our onfield & off field situations.
My comment was in the context of us attracting players to the club and being able to challenge for a spot in the finals again. Winning a premiership . ......well that a whole different story.

Still, over 46 000 members after arguably the most disappointing season in years is very encouraging.
Would be nice if a few more showed up to the games though.

And apparently our membership churn this year was 17% compared to 10% last year.

If we’d kept our churn at 10% our membership would’ve been close to 50,000. Not bad.

According to my man Wright 1 we have a inside-outside, quick, bull of a midfielder on our radar. He’s a overager playing in the EFL, leadership qualities that would excite Trout & has a name that would suit an 80s action movie star! I looked the campaigner up & he looks bloody good. Just hope we take a punt & other clubs aren’t sniffing around.
Massive step up...could be another wasted pick

Correct. Or could be another Tim Kelly. Worth a punt with pick 60 or 80 imo. It’s not like we’d be using an early pick on him.

Maybe more Tom Stewart....was playing down at South Barwon and Scarlett thought he could see something in him.

Can’t enjoy a joke mate
Go back to plowing ya pain I’m sure it’ll make all you TRUE supporters feel good
None of us are any better than each other at being a supporter. We all want the one thing - our club to be successful & win premierships.

I am a true supporter, as are you. Don’t be so petty just because I pointed out our flaws as a club. For us to be successful, they need to be resolved... Tell me I’m wrong on that one & you’re kidding yourself

Cunnington is an elite ball winner & one of the very best contested players in the competition. He’s up there with Cripps & Oliver & ahead of blokes such as Dangerfield & well ahead of Wines & Selwood. I can’t beleive you are comparing him to Seb? Seb is a GOP, Cunnington is an elite midfielder. Totally different player to Steven but I suspect everyone not on the St Kilda BF board would take Cunnington over Steven.

Cunnington was a battler for a long while too. Has made massive steps over the last few seasons...he's a bonafide star now.

Not as big as some would think the vfl is a joke some weeks.

Teams are full of kids and top ups from local comps, half the top ups or more are only kids as well. The older better guys are getting good money playing local footy.

There’s a kid at my local club who plays a few at Casey, I can’t believe we didn’t show some interest. This kid smashed the NZ testing and is an untapped beast.

The whining is beyond a joke now... it's infantile, dummy spitting, foot stamping rubbish dressed up as 'the truth'.

We all know where the club is at, we don't like it but the carry on is just boring now. For a supporter group that is renowned for their resilience, some on here are as soft as custard.

Next thing someone will bring up 'we must stop accepting mediocrity'.

FFS give me a break.

Coz we can develop like Geelong

How did he develop when he played the first game in his first season and hold his spot despite only just arriving? Maybe they just have a recruiting staff that are outstanding. They still have a few spuds but they get more right than wrong. Like when we got Andrew Thompson from the Ammos sometimes you just get some right. Gwilt too.

We must stop accepting mediocrity. Seriously though, some just are more resilient than others. I find venting cathartic, some are stoic tough guys that stand with their hands on their hips while taking kick after kick to the balls. I'm more likely lying in the foetal position sucking my thumb when the going gets tough.

He was a GOP to slightly above average for a long time. He was never a battler. I always thought he was about 32 because his head looks like mouldering onion but he's been a decent standard for a long time. This year he's gone up to a really high standard though.

Stop playing devils advocate Joff. Your all over the shop lately. Your negative & positive, yin & yang from day to day, hour to hour.

Oh & you said I was wrong on one point , so I didn’t bother ;)

If we have a large supporter base, why do we get consistently get only 25k to games?

If Richmond have 100k members and the current premier's how come they don't have 100k every time they play?

Unless you are calling Finnis a liar when he said our supporter base was comparable to Richmond of course.

As for me being positive and negative, umm that is calling it as you see it.

Instead of the relentless negativity by some, I can actually can see arguments from different perspectives.

Try it some time, it might put some light into your miserable existence

Love you babe

Miserable existence.... Nice

:(

Seb is struggling this season and Cunnington is a gun this year. Stuv is still a gun and A grade but elite is top 5 IMO. Cunnington is elite this year and a big part of why they are going so well. He is coal face inside extractor so hard to compare with Stuv who plays his best footy breaking away with his pace.
Cunnington has elite clearance work, but he isnt an elite midfielder in the competition. Neither is Stuv, they are both in the category below as midfielders.
Seb hasnt been as good this year, but his season last year was better than Cunnington's this year, as measured by statistics and votes in all the coaches/media competitions.

I was comparing him at Seb's 2017 season, where Seb was better performed than Cunnington has this year.

Cunnington has great contested work but he isnt an elite midfielder as all the top midfielders have a balance between inside and outside work. He isnt that top elite midfielder, he is the rung below where Stuv sits and where Seb was last year. If you are comparing the lists and going to place Cunnington in the elite category, then you need to do the same for our players who are the same quality of player.

Some of these recruiters have to drive past the Caulfield, Brighton haileybury etc for a change and do some work.

This young bloke of 20 with a rugby background has a recorded jump like Nic Nat and is as quick as coffield comes in at 195cm and weights 90kgs plus.

He can play as well, sure he needs some work but he’s just the type you rookie.

Two years of hard work might turn up an absolute gem.

I think his stats say he is elite. His contested possession, centre clearances etc are elite. He is like Stuv in that he doesn't get noticed because he's at a smaller under performing club.

He's elite this year because he's statistically in the top 5 for a lot of the most important midfield markers. It's part of the reason North have ben a surprise packet. Goldy and Cunnington are having an outstanding season and Higgins is the perfect type to play along side him.
