My comment was in the context of us attracting players to the club and being able to challenge for a spot in the finals again. Winning a premiership . ......well that a whole different story.Key words here are "after playing finals in 2015...."
Things can turn around quickly, but let's stop making out like we're gonna do a Richmond. Richmond were a solid 6-8th team that had a shit 2016. They also had the benefit of having a super leader, former Brownlow medallist & captain in Cotchin (just don't kick into the wind in an away elim final Trent), the best player in the league in Martin, the best defender in the league in Rance, and a top 5 in the league key forward in Jack Riewoldt.
4 guys who are amongst the elite of the absolute elite.
Their development of other players has been out of this world too. Kane Lambert puts up elite numbers week to week. Caddy is having his best year ever. Jacob Townsend was destined for the scrap heap then came in as a defensively forward & blitzed it.
We've got a lot of work to do & I believe it starts in the coaches box & is great to see we've already wielded the axe on 3. Thank god Peta Searle was moved out of the young player development role she was in up until this year too.
I'm happy we've identified our flaws & are beginning the process of ironing them out, but this is just the beginning. With some tweak some to our game style & natural development of the players we have, we should be looking for a 10-11 win season next year & that's if we get it all right.
The future looks ok, but we need to make ourselves a more attractive destination by improving both our onfield & off field situations.
