Here's my question: why have a salary cap? What is its purpose if players aren't paid their value?

He got what he's actually worth (question length of deal). We were willing to overpay to insane levels.

Go the 200cm athletic beast fwd. He'll probably end up like 205.
The way i see it, we need mids, but by pick 4 most likely the 2 elite mids in Rankine and Walsh are gone. And Smith is just 50/50 going to turn elite.
Once King gets going none of our other Fwds will be that good.
We can pick up a good mid with pick 1 or so for the next couple years. But in a few years time whem King is a guaranteed 50+ a year fwd. We'll be set.
Im actually happy we missed on shiel at 1.3
Who out of our fwds can we feel confident in a 50+ season. None.
Piss Bruce off. Members is ok but we expect too much. Marshall? Yeah maybe. Probably not.
We got good bit players. Start the real build around King. Draft couple more elite mids after this year and an elite distributer off half back and were away.

We don’t have 5 years of bottoming out unless we want to fold. Need to keep all our quality and try to build through drafting and sensible trades. Can’t afford a second full rebuild unless it’s forced on us like Brisbane. They got compensated for their exodus and nailed it.

Not to fussed about shiel, good player but he’s not a superstar and has suspect shoulders.
I would have a crack at Wingard otherwise pick best available mid at pick 4.

The point is if we are building around him it will take a fair few years. Not sure we have that with a couple of players. By the way don't be sorry. It certainly makes sense if we had drafted so many tall players over the last few years.

Weve got a few years to build from the bottom anyway. None of our tall fwds are good enough. King has elite potential. And when choosing between that and Smith. You gotta go King.
However, if GC take the Kings. Then we go Rankine. That works too.

Membrey Bruce and Battle or Marshall all look good enough. I would rather get smaller mobile forwards like Rankine.

We'll never fold. Drama. And then you answered your own question with your brisbane example. 3 years ago they were a basket case with a mass exodus. Now. Their on the way up and a destination. Which is what will happen with us if we stick the course and draft well.

We need to now be aggressive in this year's draft after missing out on Shiel..
Superdrafts come along once in a decade, & we need to exploit an avenue that sees us hit this years draft with 2 picks inside the top 10-12..
We're fortunate to have a surplus of KF's on our list..
Battle, Marshall, Bruce & Members are my preferences for KF's moving forward..
It's time we bit the bullet, & trade Paddy whilst he has some currency..
12 months ago we had the belief that Paddy would come good this year but didn't once again..

I'd dangle a carrot to the Cats..
We move on McCartin & next years first (likely top 8 pick) to the Cats for their pick 12 this year & Duncan..
Hawkins will be 31 next year, so they will be keen to get a KF who can slot into there forward line RD 1 next year..
At least with picks 4 & 12 we can draft 2 potential stars..

Reckon the crows will come knocking for a pick upgrade.

Still prefer we keep 4 and make a ballsy trade like you suggest. However anyone who gets us a first round is required.

There is something about them that reminds me of Vickery for some reason. Max is very mobile and evasive for a big man and converts better when snapping than with set shots. I worry that he gets too big and loses the mobility. Fill out and you get Johnny Patton size.

Take 4 to the draft .
If king goes in the top 3 take either lucotious or rankine at 4 . But if left with king do the pre-organised trade for picks with a club that was desperate for him. After all if he didn’t get injured he might have been pick 1 .
Then use those two picks for the next available mids .
