I'd be incredibly disappointed if we lose our best ruck and our best key forward without some serious value coming back our way. Surely Preuss would be interested in joining us with Hickey gone. Guaranteed number one ruck spot as opposed to guaranteed VFL spot.

Hickey is no good, and never will be. Hes 28 next year and has never shown an ability to be a clubs number 1 ruck. Preuss wouldn’t be guaranteed number one ruck spot at St Kilda either.

At this point I would say that Lonie & Hickey are in our best 22, so if we trade them out we are weakening our side for next year - what kind of picks would we need to make this worthwhile?

We put pick 13 into hickey 5 years ago & 41 into Lonie 4 years ago, not sure I see the point in converting them back into picks in the 30's and 40's and hoping we find better players 4 years later. Can't see us getting picks much higher than that.

I'd much rather delist Longer & Weller.

this is why the Hickey to WCE trade has stalled ... we were looking at a pick in the 20's for him But WCE now are thinking they can get better value elsewhere.. we have already cut the list down so we will be unlikely to cut anyone else the only movement from here will be for players and picks and Hickey and Lonie to this point are the only two who are likely to get us a pick close to the value we are accepting of ... as for weakening our list we are lookning to bring in at a bare minimum Hannas and Kent to strengthen our list Lonie and Hickey are both in and out of our best 22 so the picks we potentially get for them would help strengthen our list ....
we have got a lot of dead weight but we cant cut it all in one off season otherwise we are just replacing it with pick 100+ and thats pointless

Hopefully this past season has been a wake up all for Billy and he can get his body right over preseason and do all those extras he couldnt do last offseason. For all his deficiencies, our midfield does perform stronger in the centre square when he is selected.

His 2016 season did nothing for you?

In the very few opportunities Preuss has had to actually play in the ruck at AFL level he's been very impressive and at a very young age. Longer is a dinosaur who can't run, mark or kick and Pierce was monstered in 2 of his 3 games this year. Marshall is a handy relief option but is clearly primarily a forward.

Hickey has taken it right up to and beaten most of the best rucks in the competition. He's had some ordinary patches of form but he clearly has more ability than any ruck left at St Kilda

Yeah I can't imagine we'd be that worried about salary cap relief. We had 1.3 or whatever we offered, spare for Shiel so if anything we'll have to find ways to get to the required TPP.
