Noble was just on the Club Champion live stream. Dom Fay interviewing with “Strict instructions” not to talk about specific players. He did ask him about the trade week strategy and whether we were still sticking with going to the draft. Noble’s answer was we were being flexible, if our plans we have in place come off then that won’t be the case, if they don’t we’ll head to the draft. To me he had an air of confidence that we’ll get our man.

Yeah and to expand a bit on what Noble said he was super clear that we have a clear plan in place to execute on and we’ll be very careful to avoid getting sucked into people suddenly being “available”. Felt to me like a dig at trades like the Bastinac one. Obviously Wines is a calibre of player we’d be well into but he was pretty clear that if the work wasn’t put in by now something at that level wasn’t happening.

'Plans in place' I do like the sounds of that. You can assume that they've sat down and fleshed it out already with who are targeting and also the cost expenditure to get it done. Hope they don't waver with Freo who have stated it will take a 'Godfather' offer to get it done.

On face value at the time I was annoyed by the pick 12 for Cameron but at the end of the day it now looks like good value so it will take a lot to get Neale but I am hoping it won't take 2 first rounders.

Does anyone have any further info about Seb Ross?

If we were to get Lachie Neale + one of Mitch Wallis/Seb Ross that would leave only a couple of holes in our best 22 IMO.

1) A running defender, maybe Jacob Allison/Cedric Cox could play that role but probably not to a high level straight up in 2019. Jayden Hunt anyone?

2) An experienced big bodied KPF, we still need that big target down the line for the bail out kick to a contested situation, we really need Daniel McStay to continue his improvement and step up to a higher level again and play that role consistently well. Might be worth trying Josh Walker again in that role??

Im not keen on Beams spending much more time than he already does forward. Defensive pressure from our forwards is still a big weakness and that is definitely not his strength. For mine he continues in his role, sneaking forward as he does to jag regular goals. I think Zorko becomes the one to spend more time forward as he can bring the defensive pressure and energy required.

Agree with that. If we were to get Wallis and Neale it would allow us to rotate the mids a bit more, but Zorko is genuinely dangerous up forward. He has had a great past 2 years playing mid, and i dont want to change that, but just in terms of rotations id use him forward more. Really increasing the quality of our depth and rotations is what bringing in a couple like Wallis and Neale does.

Fremantle Dockers make lucrative four-year pitch to keep Lachie Neale

Fremantle have offered midfielder Lachie Neale a lucrative four-year contract extension, as the Dockers attempt to convince the clearance star to remain a one-club player.

The club’s most powerful figures have launched a desperate bid to hold onto Neale in the wake of news the Doig Medal favourite met with Brisbane during the season and is weighing up a substantial offer to move to the Lions.

Looks like a strategic move to drive an improved contract offer. Hope to be proved wrong but more than happy to take pick 5 to the draft if he’s really set on a move to us.

I am not sure whether to like your post or not.

Either he is just playing the Free Agency game already and driving his price up to re-negotiate with Freo.

Or, he is genuinely wanting to come to Brisbane and they are desperately trying to keep him.

Not surprised one little bit that Melbourne clubs will come with their godfather offers

I went through this argument yesterday, so forgive the repetition but IMO - theres no way this way this was all planned / strategic just to get a bigger contract, but it may be an obvious by product of it. It just doesent make sense and is such a messy and stressful undertaking to get a contract he could have got next year during FA bidding or had he just taken our offer to the Dockers and asked.

We made an offer, he genuinely wanted to / thought about joining us (it leaked through one of McCluers sources) , they have now matched the offer, he picks either one.

Still right in it, this is all just part of the process - they find out, make their pitch, entice him to stay, itvwas always going to be phase 2.. we just wait on the outcome.

Leaning toward him staying now, as he didnt just do what Mcgovern did and asked to leave, but as you say, we can still take a good pick to the draft or make a play for Ross. We wont improve much next year with this same midfield though, thats my only slight concern.

If he wants to sign a life sentence under Ross Lyon so be it but they are going nowhere as a footy club. His partner use to date and live on Gold Coast player so would know Queensland well. No doubt Fremantle were always going to come back hard and make it more financially lucrative for him to stay but if he comes back now and says I want to go to Brisbane then that will pretty much happen. If he wants to stay at Fremantle then good luck to him we go to the draft and we look forward to giving them a canning next year .

I’m pretty confident that if he signs for four more years at Freo they won’t be under Ross Lyon so he will want to think that one through pretty well.

I don’t have much idea how this will play out, but if I wanted to commit to an exit I’d probably like to wait until after the B&F to avoid acute discomfort. Theirs seems to be in October.

If I'm reading this right. Why would the fact that Neale's partner has an x lover on the Gold Coast make Neale more likely to come here?

Hey Lachie, I'd really like to move to SEQ.

Lachie- Why darling?

Umm, nice beaches and yerrr they have the big pineapple and umm pumpkin scones.

The only people that will be bad for is Matheson, Keayes and Starc. But we need to start cultivating depth - a good team should have 4-5 players with trade value or that would get chances elsewhere playing in the ressies. Right now, we have none playing most NEAFL games.
If the Neale trade does eventuate I would hope Starcevich would be coming back Freos way, so he might do alright out of it.
