Yeah I think the play would be get pick 5 and upgrade it to 4. Beats Port and doesn't adversely affect Saints if King is their target.
I actually think the end game for the SA clubs is getting to Gold Coast picks 2 and 3. If the SA clubs want Lokoscious and Rankine, then they are likely to both be gone by pick 4.

If I were the Suns, I would hold picks 2 and 3 until Draft night. Then when they are on the clock with pick 2 they go to both the SA clubs and say you can take Lokoscious right now if you want, make us a deal for pick 2 ... let the bidding war begin.

Hypothetically, if the Suns give up picks 2 and 3 they could end up with picks 5, 6, 10 and 13 from the SA clubs as well as pick 8 for May.

I think they would only give up one of picks 2 or 3 though and use the other one.

I'm not sure they will wait until draft night. I think they would rather spend the later first round picks to try and get some experience in this year to help the kids

Which really means pick 2. Hard to seee the Suns not choosing Lukosius with their first. Interesting position facing the SA clubs. Do they hold out for that late trade as you say or go for a lesser trade up now.

Possible of course but I just think the Suns need to go for the best quality available which I reckon includes at least one of the SA boys - probably Lukosius. to keep racking up later first round picks isn't a strategy that has helped them in the past.
Totally agree, our problem for years is we didn't truly bottom out as the expansion clubs came in and took up spots. Trust the process, get the best they can and hope they buy into the future of the club even if it means they pay overs at renegotiation time.

Given Carlton will take Walsh and Gold Coast / St Kilda will unlikely trade their respective 2/3 and 4 picks, won't it be a race to acquire pick 5 if Gold Coast take 2 of the SA boys i.e. Lukosius, Rozee, Rankine and St Kilda take King, thus allowing whichever SA club to pick up the SA lad Gold Coast don't take?

Can only assume it's just a tactic to put the pressure on for the Neale trade and that they'll deal for Hogan once it's done...but holy shit, Bell is doing a number on Freo. You finally have Hogan willing to move and you're going to let it slide just to appease one man's ego?

I really think we need to split pick 5 and get say pick 8 and 16 back from Adelaide. That gives Freo their two first round picks they are after for Neale ... but it still only costs us giving up pick 5.
I don’t understand why people think we need to split the pick and then trade both those picks to Freo.

Just send pick 5 to Freo and let them split the pick.

Because it wll require more than pick 5 to get it split and Mayes is potentially some value we can add that doesn't cost us a pick.

I think it is more to split it and if Freo don't want it then we take 2 first rounders to the draft

haha.. wait.. wait..

You have been in dire need of a forward for 5 years, you have arguably the best forward in the league knocking on your door and you offer peanuts and then (pretend) to walk away from the deal half way through trade week via the media?

And.. you trade down out of one of the best top 10 draft of all time?

And... you knock back a perfectly reasonable offer for a player who doesen't want to pull on your jumper anymore, who can and will walk out in 12 months, where you will get half as much?

I have heard of poor management, but this tops the list. What a farce, I have mates who support teams not involved sending me ''WTF Freo!!?'' messages.

Bell coming in thinking this whole routine will make them some formidable force to be reckoned with?

I feel for Freo fans, you could build a team around Hogan. I hope for them Bell stops this terrible game he is playing.

I am at the stage where I am totally happy to take 5 to the draft knowing Lachie will come next year if thats how it plays out, which it wont, but it's almost becoming the tempting option hahaha

After hearing about Bells antics, it makes me so much more appreciative of the fact that we have some real professionals running our club. Bell seems like an absolute tool and is quick becoming a laughing stock. Freo fans should be very worried with this guy at the top!

I just went over the Freo board and it is burning right now, they are absolutely ropeable. I actually feel a bit sick for them, because I remember what it was like to have an administration in charge that just made you always think... "wtf".. not sure letting Peter jump behind the wheel 48 hours before trade started was a good idea in hindsight.

Hogan will most likely still get done as will Neale, but to have Bell pull the 'fake statement' tactic, half way through trade week would make me spew if I was a docker, especially with a generation forward like Hogan involved.

Completely agree mate. Will have to go over to the Freo board for a little visit :D

Freo (allegedly) spread rumours about Beams so nothing they did would surprise me.

Could you imagine what any other players who could have been a small chance of going to Freo in years ahead would be thinking after seeing all this. Would be turned right off.

Love this initiative from the club. Not much if anything in there that we don't already know but the social media team are doing a great job here.
