If Neale is as pissed with this as reported, he cannot be a Fremantle player next year. Bell, Rosich and Lyon know that. They have given away their only top ten pick. They need another. It's all bluster. We will get him but need to hold our nerve.
I think Rosich and Lyon know it, I think Bellend is struggling to understand why he isn’t getting his own way.

lets go hard for hogan. perfect fit for our team and we will be bordering on top 8 if he comes here next season. We got the cash, we got the picks, we have the list.
I agree, doubt he would come but i would like to ask the question. As long as we did our due diligence with his medical background, then he would push us into the top 8

Dodongo thinks we would struggle to get Hogan and Neale without giving up next years first or losing Beams. Dodongo thinks the latter is likely going to happen but we can't assume that at this stage so Dodongo is unsure how we could satisfy both Melbourne and Fremantle after trading out pick 5.

Melbourne would take 8 and a future second if the 8 could get them May, but Dodongo doubts Fremantle would accept 13 and 16.

But yes if he wanted to come then we can find a way. Even if we lose him to WC a year later we can still take advantage of that as they will be better to deal with.

Would make trade week very exciting if they had a crack a Hogan . Maybe 13 16 and a future second Rd from another trade we do .
The purple Haze has to run out soon and give in. Hahaha

Pretty much sums up Tinkerbell this trade period trying to get a big fish

As some of the Freo fans point out to me the top WA talent in this draft have slipped out to the low teens with pick 11 they think they will get the best WA kid. If they get left holding the baby with Neale and we walk away and he leaves next year their compensation pick will be around 5 and next year its more likely there are a number of WA kids in the draft they expect to be top 5. while they are quietly pissed at their own club they at least can see what happens it it all goes completely balls up.

Yeah I understand your thinking, but imo it's flawed thinking. Alot of the Freo clan on the Neale board have been saying the same thing, but pick 5 this year could net them what they have been looking for since pav retired, there are no guarantees that pick 5 next year gets them that, we struggled to find a replacement for browny and we're fortunate to get hippy. The other flaw is pick 5 this year might be stronger then next, as noble has said quite a few times this year and last the value of draft pick resets itself each year and the last thing they aren't considering is other free agents compo. If May doesn't move because of freos stubbornness then he could walk next year netting GC and push Freos pick down the order not to mention any others. Pretty risky thinking imo

oh yes agreed. people toss all sorts of stats up about the draft but its around a 1 in 3 chance the kid you pick will play 200 games for you. Freo's tactics, if it all goes bad means they are left with a 1 in 3 chance when they now have a 1 in 1 chance. Plus I'll bet West Coast are in the run for Hogan next year.

They may be overestimating their potential free agent compensation pick. I would think it would be end of first round.

I think for a first round compo pick your contract average needs to be in the top 5% of the the average for all players over the age of 25 which roughly equates to the being in the top 15 earners in the AFL.

Not sure Neale's contract offer with the Lions would be in that bracket.

If, and it probably was, Beam's contract was front end loaded you would think Neale would become our highest paid player especially as they would front load his contract so the next year they can start topping up the kids. Your probably right that doesn't make it high overall for the league as we would be spreading our salary until we see which of the kids go to the elite status. He would be their 2nd highest paid player you would think like Stephen May was behind Lynch. Will be interesting how this pans out.

Bell is completely out of his depth and is all over the shop.

Demanding stupid overs for players going out, stupid unders for players coming in. Trades out six in a super draft to position himself to do deals, then tries on a totally ham-fisted, tough-guy "we won't trade" routine. Leaving the door open for WC to pounce next year.

Freo has had one gun KPF in their entire history. They get a rolled gold opportunity to bring in another and Bell wants to play silly buggers.

Grownup clubs just get the deals done. Bell is running around like a chook with its head cut off.

Anyone into Patton for us , little bit of chat around ?

I would be but to an extent. There’s also a massive question on how lost spots will work. We have three right now and we still have to trade out two players to get Adams and Neale. If we make a delisting like Frost, I would welcome Patton. He can easily take McStay’s spot in the side as he is currently a lot more consistent.

Not to mention that as a club you are also banking on being crap again next year to get similar compensation. Not the greatest message to send to your sponsors and fans.

A theme for trade period.

Patton isn’t coming to Brisbane; he hates flying and drives to a lot of interstate games due to severe anxiety of flying, so he’ll wind up at a Melbourne club if anywhere and it was reported that Collingwood are sniffing around.

Which is why I will never understand tanking. Players come and go, but your win/loss record is FOREVER. You can't trade away or retire a wooden spoon!

Seriously hope our club is talking to Melb and Hogan about a move north. Grab Hogan with our picks this year, get Neale next year as FA.

A man after my own heart. 2013 was utter hell for me in that regard! Stupid planes.

Boy these clubs over value draft picks. You can read all the pre-draft reports/scouting/testing but still end up with a dud. It really is mostly luck to hit talent or a player who will stick around. Give me a genuine proven A grader who wants in over any first round pick.

One thing I think Freo fans are missing about the whole hard line Bell stance with Hogan is there are two places to do it. In a traditional negotiation you tell the seller their price is too steep, walk away, make your bluster etc and wait it out for a couple of days. Bell went straight for the nuclear option, the press. This is a highly inflammatory tactic usually used when all avenues have been explored. If the reports are true and Melb were asking for 5 and 24 (easily attainable and would’ve basically meant Neale out Hogan in no extra) then the stance he’s taking is ridiculous.

In his first trade period he’s put 2 teams (and plenty more due to the flow on effects) totally offside through this win at all cost tactics. This isn’t negotiating hard for the best result for the club, it will come back to bite them.
