If you redirect the Polec funds to Shiel then suddenly there's no cash left for Kelly. You might have chump change left for Dalhaus though...

tbh i dont want polec so the option that doesnt have him, direct the funds elsewhere

i reckon we would be able to fit all 3 of shiel, kelly and gaff salary wise, its trade currency that would be the issue

You left out next year's first rounder too.

Treloar went for two firsts and he was out of contract. You're never getting Shiel for pick 9 and Preuss.

Not to mention we already have an agreement with GWS not to approach Kelly this year, so I doubt we're going to have a crack at Shiel.

Shiel may be better mate but you’ve gotta look at the situation. Shiel is contracted, and worth far more assets in a trade than Polec (who is uncontracted). If a deal were to be struck with the Giants for Shiel, then we would A) hamper our relationship with GWS for next year’s Kelly talks and B) be out of assets for Kelly anyway.

Looking long term, we would much rather have Polec, Gaff and Kelly at the end of 2019 than just Shiel and Gaff.

RE: rookie list, we can definitely leave Murphy there as it would be his 2nd season. I think with Zurhaar we would need his permission.

Another edit: if we were to upgrade them, they count as a drafted player i.e. use points for Thomas, upgrade TM and CZ = made the three draft selections required.

extracted this from NMFC site: Zurhaar can now look forward to another two years at Arden Street. Under his new deal, he will remain a rookie next season before being elevated to the Roos' senior list in 2020.

So it's a lock that Cam's remaining on the rookie list.

I’m a realist. Money isn’t everything, success is. Hawks and Clarkson particularly would be very enticing for a good player. Not sure we have that pull.

No doubt it's easier to get Polec but we shouldn't be taking the easy option when it would still cost us a lot

Rather go the harder option in Shiel and if we miss out so be it at least we went for the best

We then have more cash for others to reload and still pickup bargain options like Aaron Hall or Jamie Elliot etc and bank the cash for the next year
