Dude you are seriously underrating the value of pick 5 and overrating the value of picks 8 and 16. It will be a straight swap, if we get anything back its a win, even if its a late pick that gets up Stengle.

Losing an entire first round pick to move up 3 spots? Overrating pick 5 imo. And yes I know the talent drops off after 7.

Kelly to West Coast
Pick 8 and 20 to Geelong
Pick 12 and 22 to Adelaide.

Have 12,13,16,21,22.

Take it or leave it, first in first served:
12,13,16 to Carlton for pick 1.
12,13,22 to St Kilda for pick 4.
12,13 to Brisbane for pick 5.

No offer, take the picks to the draft or use to strengthen for next year.

Points are irrelevant if they are not used on F/S or NGA players.

That's why in these situations, points can't be used ......what point value is there in getting Rankine / Rozee / Smith ?

This is a player targeted strategy, not points

Im not saying that it is relevant. However with that said it gives you a ballpark idea of fairness.

I am on the side where we keep pick 8 and trade out 16 and future first for 5.

I honestly think Adelaide fans are a bit scared being in this new position. Normally we can stand back and smugly comment on the failures of those who waste top draft picks and say gee Hamish did well in the teens again. Conversely when others nail top draft picks we can shrug and say wouldn't that be nice.

Here we are in a position to raid the very top of the draft for once, and a draft offering local guns at that, and a lot of fans seem to be a bit worried about this new situation and the risks involved. Many would prefer to hold onto picks in the teens and do our normal thing rather than expose ourselves to the possibility of messing up a top draft pick.

It's an interesting case study. On the one hand Hamish is held up as the messiah who can turn water into wine with crap picks. On the other hand people don't seem to trust him to nail a top pick that could really change our list and give it the elite talent that it lacks.
Think the opposite. Most people think that Hamish with 4 top 20 picks could do some serious damage compared to only 2 top 20s if we trade up. Just more chance of getting real guns. Either way I'm confident we'll get some great players

Do that and the crows won't let Luko and Izak come out of contract. They will extend within 1 week of them being drafted to West Lakes
Even if they get drafted by another club, as crows fans, why would they nominate to be traded to Port when we are wanting them too?

Destination Club. :drunk:

I would go to Port over the Crows, if I wanted to earn more money than I am worth and if footy wasnt a priority in my life.

Its one of the best out there along with Carlton. :rainbow::drunk:

I would back in Hamish and his team to make the call on this. I think his record to date allows him this luxury. If he makes the call that pick 8 and 16 is worth sacrificing for a top 5 pick then I am all for it. These guys have followed the kids for years, have done a mountain of work on valuing the players. If they say its worth it, I am all in.

I think we would all be on that side but you are not finding any takers for that deal.

But it appears the pick #8 is going to do an Australian tour .... is to Brisbane to Freo to Melb to Gold Coast

It’s not happening for #13 & #16

for me the bigger issue is that for all the players that they purchased last year not one of the 2017 Trade / FA bunch finished in the top 10 of their B&F, this is a bigger issue that they created and trading out Polec and Wingard doesn't fix this IMO

Yes it does..

It pushes those players up the order :)

Use the net and I know I'm correct anyway. Note: anyway and not anyways. Another irksome American habit/word that has made its insidious way into our language.
Another annoying and braindead Americanism creeping into our language is people replacing the word “in” with “on”.

“I was standing on line.”

“Music was great on 1969”

And a million other equally mentally deficient examples.

So unbelievably dumb.

This is such a messed up and dangerous way of thinking.

It takes no account at all of the huge losses in opportunity costs from devoting time, resources, effort, and games to assets that are then lost before they mature and pay off.

It also fails to take account of the disruption caused by a constant turn over of players who have been bedded into a structure and gameplan over 50+ games and the loss of continuity and synergy that comes with replacing them and bringing rookies up to speed in their place.

In truth it's taking one step forward, two steps back rather than turning some illusory draft pick profit.
Yep i agree, capitalism is super messed up. Doesnt mean this is not how some clubs operate. Profit and loss is all big business care for. Not feelings, emotion or human wellbeing. Its sad and i hate it but its true. It works for adelaide atm, they continue to push these agendas and grow profits, reach record memberships etc. And we the fans are left to deal with the emotional side and the pain of it. I agree with you. But it is what it is untill we change it.
