Yeah, but I'm just saying that's not business we should be doing. We shouldn't be so blinded by pick 5 that we're overpaying just to facilitate somebody else's trade. If we're giving up 8 and 16, we need better than just 5 coming back, we should be getting a 2nd round back in. Ideally 23 from Freo, with Brisbane passing their pick 32 to them for Neale along with the 2 firsts.
Dude you are seriously underrating the value of pick 5 and overrating the value of picks 8 and 16. It will be a straight swap, if we get anything back its a win, even if its a late pick that gets up Stengle.

Yeah coming around to us keeping 5 and 8. We could then probably get rankine or rozee at 5 and king/smith at 8.
13, 16 for 5 is a fair deal. Also pick 5 and 8 would be before the Powaa which would be entertaining..

Looking at from a pure business view you buy low for high return. Adelaide have had more picks come to us purely from players we "buy" to get a greater return from if and when we "sell" . We have a great history recently of turning round ones into two round ones, lower picks into round ones etc. If we take 4 early picks and at sone point "sell" say two of these speculative shares, hamish will most likely return a gross return of 4 first rojnd picks. Giving us a net profit of two first round picks. Therefore it can be said from a business perspective that we possibly hold 5-6 first round picks. Continue the trend and hold 60% of capital and return a net profit of 50% on the rest and our draft hands become increasingly stronger over the extended period of time. Lever, mcgovern, cameron, possibly danger all fall into this theory. We become a much stronger team through this business model if we take out the emktion of "losing" players and view it more as profit return.

I say keep the picks we have and continue to return a profit over the next five years. Even if players like doedee leave, will return two 1st round picks almost everytime due to the development we manage on our "investment".
This is such a messed up and dangerous way of thinking.

It takes no account at all of the huge losses in opportunity costs from devoting time, resources, effort, and games to assets that are then lost before they mature and pay off.

It also fails to take account of the disruption caused by a constant turn over of players who have been bedded into a structure and gameplan over 50+ games and the loss of continuity and synergy that comes with replacing them and bringing rookies up to speed in their place.

In truth it's taking one step forward, two steps back rather than turning some illusory draft pick profit.

How many points is pick 13 and 16 ?

How many points is 8 ?

How many points is 5 ?
That's why in these situations, points can't be used ......what point value is there in getting Rankine / Rozee / Smith ?

This is a player targeted strategy, not points

And this is why the Stengle deal hasn't been completed ......no reason really

You're the 2nd person in a week to tell me the appropriate number ......but I take deep and short pauses :p
Just don't start with "could of and would of" NOTHING grinds my gears more...

Lots of noise today, but nothing happening

...wait!

All comes down to the fact that the players have too much power. Will destroy the league if nothing is done. Clubs must have more power and allowing them to trade out contracted players without their consent is a start. Already happening at hawthorn.

Kelly to West Coast
Pick 8 and 20 to Geelong
Pick 12 and 22 to Adelaide.

Have 12,13,16,21,22.

Take it or leave it, first in first served:
12,13,16 to Carlton for pick 1.
12,13,22 to St Kilda for pick 4.
12,13 to Brisbane for pick 5.

No offer, take the picks to the draft or use to strengthen for next year.

Use the net and I know I'm correct anyway. Note: anyway and not anyways. Another irksome American habit/word that has made its insidious way into our language.
I’m well aware that what I wrote was incorrect.

In nearly all of his previous posts there is an apostrophe before every S. I was merely taking the p!ss

Being the negotiator does not make him the decision maker, and he's not.

At least get your facts right if you want to pot someone.

And yet you use the word "we" which implies the AFC.......we is not JR.

You are dead set wrong on this one.
I'm not putting anyone, you're just a bit angry

What is scullys contract worth???

I assume that his contract was front-end loaded, so not worth as much now compared to when he signed on

this is the very problem, clubs that chose to lure players by long term front ended contracts risk players choosing to leave at the back end of the deal to chase another big pay day

Why would Brisbane do this?

Forget the points, if we are trading up, there has to be something significant in it for the other team to give up an early pick.
We took Burton off them

They owe us

Have we ever had a better chance at a better hand before?

Problem for us has always seemed to be the talent ceiling. Lack of A+ grade talent. We should be chomping at the bit for a taste of that on our list, not concerning ourselves with sensible commerce.

Just my opinion.
I honestly think Adelaide fans are a bit scared being in this new position. Normally we can stand back and smugly comment on the failures of those who waste top draft picks and say gee Hamish did well in the teens again. Conversely when others nail top draft picks we can shrug and say wouldn't that be nice.

Here we are in a position to raid the very top of the draft for once, and a draft offering local guns at that, and a lot of fans seem to be a bit worried about this new situation and the risks involved. Many would prefer to hold onto picks in the teens and do our normal thing rather than expose ourselves to the possibility of messing up a top draft pick.

It's an interesting case study. On the one hand Hamish is held up as the messiah who can turn water into wine with crap picks. On the other hand people don't seem to trust him to nail a top pick that could really change our list and give it the elite talent that it lacks.

I agree .....think Chad & Port have burn't their bridges

Interesting, that the general consensus is Chad leaving, all because of his exit interview
Whilst it would be funny seeing port trade one of their best players, it would actually be better if he stays with all the acrimony that is seemingly between him and the club. Then leave next year for nothing
