Wingard will be AA next year. Hawks won't put up with his laziness
As soon as Wingard was getting pushed out the door I have said that Hawthorn would be the best club for him. I genuinely believe that they will get the best out of him and that he will be an absolute gun for them. I also think he would never have reached those levels with Port. Not because its Port Adelaide but because sometimes players like Wingard need a change to get the best out of themselves. They need to have that safety net removed so that they can truly take off and work for it.

Wingard will be a star for Hawks!

We're going to bomb out again by the looks.

bomb out ?

it comes down to a cost vs value decision

let's be very clear Port have given up 2 x top 10 players, Chad didn't have a good year this year however he is a duel AA and a BF winner and is only 25, his very best footy is ahead of him, while Polec has been one of the only players on Port's list who has been brave enough not to play safe footy

Personally I sense their is a bit more to play out for the crows however I trust Hammish and Reidy not to sell the farm just to get ahead of Port in the draft pickings

I'll go out on a limb and say your not making 7 figures in your job.
I get what you're saying, but the point remains the same. I go to work because I have to, not because I want to. And many AFL players are in a similar boat. Just because they earn a large pay packet, does not make them immune from treating their career as just a "job"

I wonder if we're not as obsessed as was made out about the SA talent coming through in the draft?

Look no further than Ricky Henderson. Garbage player for us, played out of position in defence. Hawks turn him into a very serviceable player on the wing/half forward.
Another indirect result of our Mackay obsession.

We had to play Henderson across half back because...

Even if Port don't trade up further, Pick 5, 10 and 15 is a strong draft hand and more annoyingly puts them in a position just before of all our picks. As much as I'd like it to be Jarman Impey vs Matt Crouch times three, we're not dealing with early 20s pick selections so it's hard to get past the fact that right now they seem to have gazumped us this time.

I may be wrong however I still sense that GC are still in play as well

The hardest part I'm trying to wrap my head around is who I think GC will take.

IF, by some miracle GC dont take Rozee and Rankine in that 2-3 window, Port grab Rozee at 5, I could very easily see Rankine sliding out to 8. The problem being, I can't see who else GC take if it's not Luko and Rozee, there's probably no one else bar Smith. Really need some late draft bolters to move themselves into the equation ala Bont and Oliver, but no one has really come yet.

I'm surprised by how many people find this surprising. Footy is a job to a lot of players. They spend ridiculous amount of hours at the club, training, playing, PR etc. Gone are the days that people played footy for fun - today it is a business, and a full time job. And from that point of view I compare it to myself - do I prefer going to work five days a week or do I prefer playing Destiny 2 on the PS4? Easy choice there.

Hmmm let me think about that.

Enjoy going to work for $700K per year or enjoy sitting home and playing Destiny 2 on the PS4.

If I had to choose one...:think:

Mate, you can't be serious.

What if your job was to play destiny on the PS4?

Hawthorn are going to kill it next year :(

Scully won't be at his best next year
Scrimshaw still has to proven himself at AFL level.
How will the older players in Roughead,Burgoyne,Birchall,Frawley performed
Their Midfield is still extremly reliant on Mitchell and O'Meara
Harder Draw for finishing 5th-Played St Kilda,Essendon,Brisbane twice this year

pick 40 was unless to us so why keep it?
Where was the 1st rd pick going to come from if not Sydney?
No way was it useless to us.
1. If we bundle picks to move up we would definately have to use it in the draft.
2. Pick 40 would have huge value in any deals we want to do draft night (or this afternoon).
3. We traded a future 4th to get pick 67 yesterday, how can 40 be useless?
