Next year I'd wager.

If the AFL had some kind of yank "most improved" trophy I'd put my house on him next year.

He'll get the "no longer playing for an SA side Dangerfield bump", the playing for a competent coach rather than Ken bump and appears to have a chip on his shoulder now.

Quite frankly I'm melting a bit as to how much better this has made Hawthorn.

Now this may be just a little petty on my behalf, but if we do sit on our current hand and not trade up (I'm ambivalent, I don't pretend to know what's best to do, maybe the club no longer has a choice, anyway..)

How many F/S Academy players are likely to go before pick #8? There is Blakey? Anymore? Is pick 8 gonna be pick 9? Pick 10?

The reason I ask is because quite frankly I just want to see a Crows jumper up on stage on draft night for once in the Top 10
If we get pushed out again I'll be annoyed (even though that aspect is very superfluous )

Great for Port.

They’ve done well this period. They’ve now got 5, 10, 15, Mayes, Burton and Lycett. If they can get say Rankine and Duursma (plus someone else), who could potentially be Wingard and Polec replacements respectively, it’s a big win for them
I don't think we can be laughing at their trade period premiership this time. The've actually smashed it.

This is my worry as well. Not Port but Hawthorn have just got back to being a bloody good team. Essondon and Collingwood as well.
It could easily be a big 3 Victorian domination for a while.

I dont think this is the case. I think its the overall situation.
As all year it was talked about the gun SA kids and when Mcgovern looked to want out it looked like we might finally have currency to move right up.
However im happy to back our recruiters in for 4 top picks however it does feel a little disappointing at the moment. Yes port have lost 2 really good players but they've also got one back in, who imo can be equal or better than polec.
Gov was never going to get us that currency though. That was a pipe dream.

I'm not worried by Port, who have just lost two of their best players, and are reliant on a bunch of 31 year olds.

What I am worried about is that we now basically have free agency from year 1, with cashed up Victorian clubs seemingly having an unlimited salary cap. It's getting harder and harder for interstate clubs to retain their top end talent. The Setterfield and Scrimshaw deals were ridiculous and should have alarm bells ringing in AFL house. Trade period has become target practice for the Vic clubs.
Only going to get worse unless something is done. Gillon wants a strong VFL.

Wingard loss will come back to hurt Port

He will be an AA at some point in time at Hawthorn

next year most likely, ppl down play chad all the time but hes a super player, will dominate at hawthorn, will be one of the biggest names in the game now hes in Victoria

Only Blakey I reckon, Thomas will go outside the top 10 now

We should be drafting 9th on draft night if we keep 8

Geez the only other bigger trade they could have got is Gov to them.

If Scully is fit and healthy, they have assembled a strong team already for next year.

Since they bottomed out in the 2000s for years they have chosen to rebuild inside a year.

All I want to know is why we were in such a hurry to get the Gov deal done and in the process gave away pick 40 for nothing, when we weren’t really committed to anything else?

Im not so sure about this.

I think we did well given Gov hated us now and wanted out, what we got for him was a potential CC replacement and pick 13.

Not sure we could have done better. Mind you I wasnt a fan of losing Pick 40.

I cant believe the trade that brisbane did... Omg noble...
In my opinion Brisbane come out of that trade real well. They will still likely get what they want with pick 6 (either trade or draft) so they are effectively receiving pick 35 and a future 3rd round pick for Sam Mayes. It's probably a win/win I think.

Yeah we definitely got unders for gov. Gov's best years are in front of him and will be a 10 year player at carlton. Wingard is on the decline and is lazy. Only difference is wingard has the runs on the board. The fact gov has been pretty much injured for 2 years cost us big time.
