It’s amazing how much their personalities change after they retire. Atherton dour and serious then, now very affable.

My favourites were always Bill Lawry and Keith Stackpole.

On-field - one conservative, steady as a rock, wouldn't play an attacking shot until after lunch on Day 2. The other - all guns blazing, full throttle, no mucking about.

In the commentary box - complete opposites.

We just have to keep grounded as lots of cricket still to be played, was a fantastic win but we also won 1st tests in India 2017 and South Africa 2018 and went on to lose both those series.
The pressure is firmly on England now . Australia just need to keep the foot on the throat and the media will do the rest over there

It’s a huge match next test . If Australia win it or even draw it that pressure just keeps building . Selection will be very interesting

The fact they chose Anderson. At 37. Is their own undoing.
England's selectors were more or less admitting that their back up bowlers simply aren't up to it, which is wonderful news for Australia in the coming Tests. Broad and Woakes shouldn't be underestimated, but if we can see off the new ball, scoring should become easier.

One more problem for England - another catastrophic collapse at Lords, like the one we saw last night will of course mean they'll have to perform a feat that's only been achieved once before in Ashes history: they'll have to win the remaining 3 Tests to reclaim the Ashes. Unfortunately they don't have a Bradman in their team - he's wearing the green and gold :).

Great win.

Must be said that England were handicapped by losing Anderson, perhaps not enough made of it.

What must also be said is that Australia showed some grit whereas England did not.

England were very poor once Australia got a bit of a sniff.
This for sure .. however came in with the niggle so counts as a strategic mistake not bad luck

amazing preformance.

We've got such a strong attack. Imagine having Mitchell Starc Carrying the drinks, Hazlewood cant crack it either. and we have some damn good bowlers behind these blokes.

Was against Siddle coming in but jesus christ he played a fantastic knock with the bat to really help Smith make a respectable tally. Might of not got wickets the second innings but he did nothing wrong, Thought he was washed up. Eating my ******* words.

Our top order is still shakey but having the best cricketer in the world at the 4 it masks plenty of our issues. Wade was sgreat as well. I've slung s**t at him, will continue to do so, But a great knock and he went on with it as well to put us in a strong position.
Close to Siddle’s best ever technical performance imo ..

Kept to Lyon really well. Bloody difficult at times today.

Too bad his keeping to the pace guys was atrocious - Wade would have got lynched had he put in the type of session 1 keeping performance Paine did today. Luckily the missed catch was completely irrelevant on the day.

Still in awe at the turnaround in that match. From the start of Day 3 to the end that was a total domination. 7/487 played 16/253.

At stumps on Day 2 I was worried this match could spiral out of control and really set us up for a torrid tour. Cricket - and all sport - is so much about momentum and our guys came out and bowled really well on Saturday morning to bring us back into the match, and even though Woakes and Broad put on a decent partnership, we kept the margin manageable at the end of the second innings.

There's still 4 tests to go, but Edgbaston has been brutal for touring teams and we pulled a win from a situation that few teams can do that from. The last time any touring team won from a worse position 8-down in the first innings was Australia in Sri Lanka 2004 when we were 8/100 and won by 27 runs.

People will talk about Steve Smith's performance in this test for as long as cricket is played and will go down in Ashes folklore with many other memorable Ashes moments.

What pitch do they serve up next? The problem they face is our quicks are as good if not better than theirs and our spinner is miles ahead of theirs. I presume they will want a pitch that neutralises Lyon, thus making it more even contest. Both batting lineups have their issues and a green seamer will destroy both batting lineups.

the last thing they would want is to be 2 nil down with 3 to play.

England were favourite to win the series for at least a month or two running up to the start

I thought the Poms would be favourites coming in (don't really gamble or do odds) but as soon as I saw their team I predicted 3-1 Aussies.

That's not a very good team.

She's diverse though so if they get rid of her they'll be accused of being racist AND sexist.

So she'll get another contract.

Her and Healy was a real low-light of the ashes after some of the great english commentators

Nah, far too harsh...she’s great...Heals doing his same old schtick...white, male Woodbridge is the awkward one yet you don’t seem to be offended about his bizarre involvement 🤷🏾‍♂️

They are off to a flier the Poms
- get thumped in a test they had the opposition 8/120 in the first innings in
- captain questions Smith record in England ,Smith makes back to back tons
- Roy spits towards Aussie crowd
- don’t shake hands at start of play
- pick Anderson who lasts 4 overs

Think they may haves got a little ahead themselves before this series .....

You can add:

- Roy as a ODI/T20 opener clearly not up to test cricket
- Bairstow hideously out of form
- Ali hideously out of form
- Denly averaging 21 in test cricket.
- Butler batting at 5 in test cricket.
- Andersons replacement Archer coming off major injury, and no exposed test form.
- No other recognized batsman in the England squad, Archer, Stone & Curran are the players in the wings.
- Back to back tests coming up

On the flip side:

- Australia may have the strongest fast bowling depth it's had since the 90's, it's arguably even higher.
- The best batsman of the modern era with a point to prove
- A no.6 in Wade in a career renaissance.
- The no.1 fast bowler in the world.
- Statistically the best spinner over the last decade and soon to be the #3 top Australian wicket taker.
- All this with Warner not firing a shot....

This could get real ugly...
