to be fair, a couple from point/gully region got there first and were checking on him but Smith brushed their inquiries off quickly.

Finally. Yes exactly .... the point I made was that Smith look composed enough that he wasn’t in serious trouble fairly quickly. Despite the fact that he stayed down for a bit. That’s not to say he won’t by bloody sore and isn’t very lucky. And yes Archer should have given him a check in.

But if I could see Smith brush off the first Pom in from the other side of the world then perhaps Archer could see the same thing and knew he was “ok” from 12 feet away so maybe we could just reel in the hysterics a touch.

Hope Smith pulls up well anyway back to his health and continues this phenomenal series he’s having

I think that’s a little unfair. They ran over to him as soon as it happened. The English medical team even ran out onto the ground.

I think we should give Archer the benefit of the doubt that it was just nervous laughter after the incident.
I nervously laughed that you could think that was nervous laughter from both Archer and Buttler.

Cummins bowled the exact same short stuff.
But Archer is like 10 mph quicker by the looks of it.

That spell just changed the series as far as Im concerned.
Smith wont be the same player after getting hit like 4 times. Even on a pitch as lifeless as this Lords pitch .

You're right, he'll be better for sure

From cricinfo: "Archer to Smith, no run, oh dear! He's been clattered here by the short ball. He's down. This is nasty. Took him on the unprotected part of the neck. The medics are out there straightaway, from both sides, and the England players have immediately gone to Smith. "

Not really what happened, though.

Archer was wandering back to his mark stone-faced afterwards, like he'd just sent down a routine dot ball, then came back to stand at the side of the pitch and have a giggle with his keeper.

Yeah fair comment. There are different perspectives. I'm not going to condemn a fast bowler for doing what he set out to do.

Maybe Hughes didn't reverberate around the rest of the world like it did here.
I think a lot of batsmen would play short bowling very different if they saw more than the occasional spell of genuinely dangerous short pitched bowling from the likes of Johnson, Archer, Riaz etc. It wasn't always that way. There's a lot of faith placed in protective equipment and true pitches, this one's shown it's not always consistent if you put enough into the short ball.
