all the trades are to be done between 4pm-6pm tomorrow with no live trading, then the draft starts at 7pm with the picks unable to change, so i think we will grab 2 picks between 25-35 for our first next year, use 1 on Finn's bid and 1 on a player that we hope will drop to our selection, i think that is the plan?
I don't want to trade in a pick that is used on finn. Is it true that there is no more live trading?

I want us to try and trade into the draft as soon as we spend the junk picks on finn.

Josh Worrell
Jeremy Sharp
Deven Roberston
Elijah Taylor
Dylan Williams
Harrison Jones
Trent Rivers
Trent Bianco
Will Gould

I really hope we trade into the second round because there are a handful of players with considerable upside still available.

Gould would be good. Able to play in 2020 and not look out of place, too.

Brad was pick 33 mate, not 13!!! Young inside mid bulls to pair with Worps for the next 12 years would have been an awesome outcome.
Here’s a message I got on my phone from ‘someone ‘ after hawks selected Day with pick 13 :
“ Hawks definitely don’t value draft night do they ?? Loll etc etc..,”
Even better if a skinny pick 33 can win 3 flags in his first 4 years than imagine what a skinny pick 13 can do.

Hypothetical trade with Geelong (assuming Finn is bid on before 26): Future 1st + Pick 58 for Pick 26 + Pick 38. Picks 42, 50 & 53 used for Finn points (53 gets pushed back to 60).

Take Taylor or Sharp with 26, and one of Mahony/Cahill/Williams with 38. Try and package 60 & 63 for a late future selection, otherwise pass. End up with a possible haul of Day/Maginness/Taylor/Mahony which would be great especially alongside recruiting Patton/Frost.

I'd feel really flat if we only matched a Finn bid then used 60 & 63 on players, but then again some of our best drafting comes later in the draft.

No, you can live trade like we did to get Walker last year.

Perhaps we just all go and kill ourselves eh Franko?

Lighten up man - you've been doing this 'someone shit in my shoe' attitude thing for over a decade now.

Let it go.
No, doesn’t bother me either way at all, I’m just surprised that the tone here is we are a lock to trade next years 1st. Kind of like our last few FA locks. Could happen though.

Plenty of people were ragging on SOS as a list manager, but I reckon he played tonight like an absolute fiddle. Really well done. The trade period he was overruled on players by the rest of the Carlton mafia, made him look worse - but he's definitely a cagey operator.

Yeah, he did very well. He turned pick 9 (11) and 55 into 17 and 20, and got the player they were keen on once Young and Serong were off the board in Kemp. He gambled that Kemp would still be there and it paid off.

Hawks were in trade talks earlier tonight. Two picks in the 20-30's would be nice for next years first.
Worrell and Sharp would be nice alongside Finn
I am not sure about fascination with trading next year's first round for 2 this year. If we wanted to we could have traded our first this year for 2 later picks this year to get player like Robertson/Sharp. It is interesting that no one has taken Robertson yet and we thought he was a top 10 player in the like of Selwood. Although I think there was even talk of Worpel finding another spot because of return of Mitchell, we will get Maginess too.

If bid comes early second round, aren't we intending using our late picks 42,50,54 on Maginess. If we bring second rate pick, that will get used up for Maginess and we end up with picks 42,50,54, 63 which we may not need. Isn't next year's first round pick valuable?

Its very hard to trade you're future picks for picks now and get value for them especially on draft night, its like trying to get a kid to trade the new toys they just got for xmas for a possibly better but unknown present next year. Most future draft picks are traded to get gun players in.

I just don't think anyone was interested in giving theirs away this year with our potential to move up the ladder and all the academy picks next year.

Where did all this Geelong bidding on Finn talk come from?
Have a look at the Cats list, they don't take kids from Metro Melbourne, they stick to country kids and
interstate. It is an ethos that has worked well for them as Melbourne kids never embrace the city of Geelong

How is that possible? As I suggested if believe value for money was in the 23-42 range then traded 11,50,54 out for say 23,28,37 and we had 30,42.
If you trade next year's for say Mid 20 + Mid 30 pick now, the Mid 20 pick will be eaten up by Maginess bid and left with Mid 30 pick and whole
lot of Pick 42,50,54,63 which last 3 will not use. Why waste picks this year and give up next year's first rounder for a Mid 30 pick this year?

Obviously the reality is I know nothing but....

Got excited when Sydney went Stephens and Flanders slid all the way to Carlton due to others having other priorities. Knew Carlton were keen on Kemp (and not Flanders) and that Melbourne were locks to take Pickett (or maybe Weightman), leaving Flanders for us (who basically everyone had top 5). Such a shame GC swooped and took him - really think McKenzie would have taken him if Carlton didnt find a suitor or werent willing to risk losing Kemp.

Turns out Carlton made the right call getting Kemp anyway and GC got a steal for an amazing midfield haul that pisses me off in terms of concessions.

We end up with a skinny hbfer instead of a midfield bull. Day looks to be in the Birchall/Scrimshaw mould (Birch tje better kick, Day better overhead) which would be just fine.

Mate, I was only about 79kg at 17 and now at 49 I’m 102kg. So we can all put weight in on 😁😁

From his footage Will seems to have skill, pace, football smarts and he has a crack. The picture telecast of him tonight showed that when he starts shaving he will automatically add a few kg’s 😄.

Of course I am barracking for the young lad he is now wearing our colours. Have complete faith in the club.

I am also a bit of a romantic in sport and I like the traditional family connection with his grandfather Robert Day being a Hawk premiership player. He was the younger brother of another prominent SA player Ian Day. Robert Day was a brilliant and one of the best centremen in South Australia. He was speedy, strong, well balanced, and elegant, he was a driving force behind West Adelaides assault on the 1962 premiership. In the Grand Final that year he was widely considered to be the best player afield, despite playing in a losing side.

We get Finn and with the other contested mids we have, Will’s attributes as an outside runner with skill could add another piece to the puzzle 🤞.

Doubt we're trading now. Why trade a first pick for a pick in the mid 20s? Suicide.

I think the rules are that the next pick must be used to match Maginess, so will be pick 26. The question is pick 38 this year more valuable or next year's first round pick and I thought it is obviously next year's first round pick. You will also be left with some late picks that are excess. I think makes sense to leave things as they are and use late picks to match Maginess bid. Nothing to feel flat about, you are using a 3rd rounder to get a first round player in Finn and you have got an extra second rounder for next year. I thought that is win, if club values high draft picks.

That's ridiculous? Why only have live trading for part of it. Another ridiculous rule. Either have it or don't.
