2 of Robertson, Gould, Rivers please.

But we know Ogilvie is deadset keen on pick trades, he and the team can't help themselves! I'm certain he will trade down one of those picks. Hopefully Rivers slides.
Listening to Hamish, I too get the feeling that we will trade down at least one of those picks which is surprising given who will be available.

The good thing is he surely can't downgrade too far given we still need to use 5 picks and we don't want too many late picks. They obviously tried a swaps yesterday which didn't come to fruition.

If he runs out of preferred talent he might just go a safe mature ager like Partington for our 5th pick.

So, who do you have us picking at #76 (in this year's draft) then?

That's the impact of trading pick #25, and not replacing it with another pick in the 2019 draft. We have to make a minimum of 5 selections in the ND (unless we plan on making a PSD selection, which we don't). Our 5th pick is currently #46, our 6th is #76. Trade pick #25, without replacing it in the 2019 draft, and #76 becomes our mandatory 5th selection.
I'm not saying I want to do it. I was just clarifying what the OP was saying.

I like our hand given who is currently left. I'd rather be trying to get another pick in the 20s than trading one out.

So what’s everything’s thoughts on last night

Biggest surprise?
Disappointing moments?
Early Busts?
Biggest surprise? - Green making it to 10 was the biggest surprise for me. It makes getting GWS' future first in the trade from 4 to 6 even more impressive.
Disappointing moments? - Geelong taking C.Stephens at 16 was disappointing because he was one that I wanted with 23 or 24. As it turns out there are going to be player available who I like even more so it wasn't as bad as I first thought.
Early Busts? - I wont presume to act like I know better than the recruiters. I do think that Port Power will be the most disappointed. 13 or 14 always looked like the worst place to be in the draft as that is where it looked like it would flatten out. As it turned out pick 14 was the point. With picks 14 and 18 Port Power had first pick of the next group but I don't see those picks much different to picks 23 and 24. Going in I am sure that Port Power would have been hoping that some one would go earlier on Kemp or Weightman and push a Day or Flanders out to their pick 14.

They are only going to make a trade that they think is a win so worst case scenario we pick two of the highly rated players still available. It is a very good position to be in and one where we can't lose either way.

It was pretty straight forward.

you have 2 2020 FR picks.
I'd swap ours for your second 2020 FR and one of your picks in the 20's this year

Personally I wouldn't do that trade. Too much risk I feel that it could go wrong if you have a good year and GWS a poor year. I mean if somehow Freo make finals and GWS miss finals then we are giving you a second round pick for us to downgrade one of our picks. I would do one of our seconds this year and one of our seconds next year for your first next year.

I know Freo wouldn't like it but in this scenario they are the ones chasing our pick so if want them to pay up.

We can't unfortunately...we only have 1st and 2nd rounds next year...cant trade the first...can swap though

Well I see now that you have a first and second and then a a gap until the fifth round. But I do wonder that if you got an extra second if the AFL would bend the rules. Wouldn't be the first time.

Otherwise I just wouldn't do that trade if I were the Crows

With North having 26, 27, 30, 47 + Us having 24, 25, 39, 46

How about we pressure North (by way of saying we are keen on the two SA kids (Gould and Schoenberg) into a deal;

Something like:
North give 26 + 27 + 47
Crows give 24 + 39 + 46

We don't give us a lot and ten carry 25, 26, 27.

They get their first preference pick rather than risk losing him to us.

I see the next bunch of picks being; (in any order possible)
Worrell
Sharp
Jones
Maginness
Robertson
Gould
Schoenberg
Rivers
Williams
Rantall
Taylor
Mead

Any of those would be great pickups in their own right for the Crows.

Port's trading and strategy has been bizarre.

They moved from 10 to 12, in the process losing access to two of SA's top prospects and also eliminating any last chance of making a move for Stephens

Then they traded their 2020 1st and a 2019 2nd to draft Georgiades, who likely would have been available in the 20s.

Then they traded Howard for what is now pick 22, and are likely to either straight up replace him with another young KPD or draft a bolter-type forward.

A lot of those moves seem to me like Port have reduced their currency and draft hand

I think that’s a decent comparison- Hurn another good one.

People get so hung up on speed speed speed.

Hurn and Hodge both great players and neither were/are great athletes
We already have many “great footballer, ok athlete” types

We don’t have enough outside pace and pressure
We don’t have enough aerial contest winners

Fine if we take him, but my guess is we look elsewhere

I don't think that's quite right, we need more pure footballers

The stupidity of the two day draft also sees the first pick of the 2nd round valued higher than the last pick of the 1st round.

That's dumb and shouldn't be the case
They've even devoted an extra 2 hours pre draft to any pick swaps

North Melbourne's picks are actually 28, 29, 32 and 48.

I agree though they seem like the most suitable club to trade with if that's the way we go. Potentially we could trade 25 and 39 for 28 and 32. It's not a huge win but it is possible we could still get our preferred player at 28 and someone like Rantall, Gould or Sharp at 32.

So with Robertson still on the board do we try and trade up to 22? Surely he doesn’t slide 2 more spots

Cant believe he’s still there.
Depends on what picks it costs us & Robertson's rating v others which we would pick up 2 picks later.

Still seems to be some good picks left for our next 2 picks regardless of who Port/Brisbane take next.
