Does anybody know if we are at all interested in Bennell?

Also, well before trade period, I recall someone at the Hawks...could've been GW, Clarko or even Kennett...indicate that Hawthorn supporters should get ready for heartbreak, implying that we may lose some long-loved players like years gone by (Hodge, Mitch and Lewis).
Either I misinterpreted it, or they were referring to players like Birchall and Burgoyne (who at the time probably had question marks on their futures).
But if I did hear correctly, nothing has really come of it. I certainly haven't been heartbroken. Seems a little strange.

Hopefully yes, given we have 10 or so spuds on the list I'd rather take the 5 % punt on Bennell that if you actually got him right he can play.

this could also have been that we put some guys on the table but our asking price was too Essendon for anyone to take the bite so we pulled the lines back in and no harm no foul

So Mohr and Minch could go to be swapped for this years Mohr and Minch. guys who didnt play enough to begin to learn our systems. compared to other players who know them inside out

Not sure grabbing whatevers going is that smart , if you lose like for like guys who already know the systems

Birchall, Roughie, Schoey and maybe even Poppy. If you didn’t get a little sad then we’ll that’s just sad 😔

Would really hope that the footy club look seriously at Bonar tomorrow, a kid that was drafted at 11 only 2 years ago and has clear upside and huge athleticism would be a worthwhile punt... He certainly has a preference for Hawthorn, any kid that has talent who has that ambition to be with us we should explore imo.

I would like us to have a crack at him, but I also thing GWS would still want too much for him this year. He has 1 year left on contract doesn’t he? Or 2. Best option is he stays there, has a full year to develop but won’t get midfield games ahead of the talent they have, we pick him up next year cheaper and still only 21-22.

Has he had a knee op?
Hopefully not as there’s nothing wrong with it.

Bennell has had calf surgery to remove scar tissue, I believe. I’ve said before I think that Hawks, Geelong and Sydney will considering the punt on him. Water-tight medical teams, rock solid player welfare, experienced off-field leadership and a need for some of the magic he could bring.

Another young mid that Tops has alluded to would take priority over Bonnar.

Don't know a lot about Aiden Bonar, but some decent judges of the game rated him highly enough to draft him at #11 so must have some tricks.

It'd be worth doing just to imagine the look on Jason McCartney's face when GW's number flashes up on his mobile phone tomorrow afternoon......

gives you confidence that GWS rated him so highly, they clearly know to select quality talent and mostly of decent character.

Why can't we take Bonar even if the other mid eventuates? He'll play Box Hill for a year to learn the ropes and then we see how far he's tracked. Remember, GWS couldn't give Finlayson away last year.

I'm glad you said 'mostly of decent character', as Toby Greene would have something to say about that!

Be interesting to see if Bonar gets cheaper near the end of tomorrow.
With his ~400k on their books, that’s 400k less for Whitfield or Cameron, so They might be inclined to give him away towards the end. We’ve still got our future forth Rd right?

They can afford to pay kids 400 is the incredible part of that story.

Should make a final day heist of Papley, I really don't like him much but he'd compliment our forward line really well.

Yes, we should be going hard at this with pick 11. Wingard permanent mid with Mitchell, Worpel and O’Meara. A forward 6 of Gunston, Breust, Papley, Nash, Lewis and Patton.
