It was universally agreed that when we were having a crack at Coniglio that we were definitely in need of another mature midfielder. I don't understand why we seem to have given up that idea. I don't expect Finn or any other youngster to carry much of the load next year. I don't want a repeat of what we had to watch against the Saints.

If we can get pick 43 for Pittonet and GWS would be willing to take that and that alone for Bonar, I'd be happy but I am content with pick 11 and points for Maginness. Need to see who will be done early on draft night and trade a further forth again, maybe North Melbourne with 50 or GC with 58.

I agree. Couple this with the fact we have heard whispers of going after an elite interstate mid I wait in the hope we may try for something else.

Interestingly, with our pick 11, Patton and Finn every chance to go 15-20, we are every chance to add 3 first round picks to the list. If we do say yes to Bonar or the other highly rated kid weve been linked too, theres every chance we can end up with 4. We may not have drafted them all, but we'll have them all the same for that care about those things.

I thought Hugh Greenwood made a lot of sense. A mature, clearance player who can help us win the footy while youngsters (be it Harry Jones, James Cousins, Finn McGuinness or whomever) learn how to play at the level. I'm pretty staggered we didn't throw a decent offer at him this year or snap up Jarryd Lyons last year, when once again next year an injury to more than one of JOM, Mitch, Worpel or Shiels will see us unravel like a woollen jumper.

Perhaps the ongoing form of Worpel and the emergence of Chad in the last few games tempered the need? We may have decided there were more important list management priorities.

I can see that being a possibility. If Chad is now earmarked as a mid, then I'd still like us to be going after another small/hf. Seems a few teams are looking for those genuine small forwards these days. Hope we have a plan to find our next Breust/Cyril/Poppy type trio. Perhaps Nash and Hanrahan are the front runners.

Andrew Russell??
Maybe I don't understand the issue but when you give 15 years to a job, leaving for a change and others under you to continue to develop is fairly common.

If Russel asked some questions to try gain clarko or others it would be reasonable to assume that this is not at his direction but the old boys brigade at the blues, every chance I'm wrong but you don't do 15 years without being a stand up guy these days

Highest probability is that we get something for Pittonet then spend from now until draft time trading picks to improve our position. GW has already said as much.

Let's pretend for a moment that we score a trio of young guns like Port did last year. They were never going to challenge but an injection of youth saw them end up far more competitive than many expected. Take our side who finished 4th and 9th the past two seasons, add in some young stars to really heighten that engergy, then add in Tom Mitchell, Chad Wingard, James Worpel, Jon Patton and Sam Frost all hopefully playing a full season together, and suddenly the sky is the limit in 2020 in my opinion. Impey making a late-year comeback would be icing on the cake.

As others have posted there’s quite a bit of mail around that we’re just not that interested in Bonnar.

Exactly - and there are reasons why. Two years into a career you probably should be having an impact in the NEAFL of all places, but he's just not.

He's not the type of player that Hawthorn typically chase, he's on a fair bit of coin and he'd cost too much in a trade.

No way. Maginness probably gets bid on just before that pick 23 and we have to use it on him or miss out while also missing out on a great talent at pick 11. We need O'Brien more than we do a young midfielder. If we trade O'Brien then we suddenly look short for key position stocks again too. Love hypotheticals but this one just doesn't make sense for mine
And.....isnt O'brien a Mt Gambier boy? So although a South Australian, he is not from Adelaide. Melbourne is just as close, therefor I would doubt he is desperate to get to Adelaide. I like Timmy and feel he may just continue his rise up the player stakes. Not time to sell him just yet.
