I think the guys on the podcast do a great job. I always enjoy the program. Dom is just learning but he's always informative without being too annoying.

Unlike Whately , articulate ??? Lives in his own BS world imo. Generally takes sycophantism to another level unless he doesn't like you in which case for us you get the gentle barbs with all the subtlety of of a sledgehammer . Basically unlistenable for me.

I used to like Whately but I just find him irritating now.

Too many flowery metaphors and other figures of speech for my liking.

Every time I hear him pontificating from on high, I have this metal image of him sitting in a tub drinking his own bathwater

Don't think we should be concerned about being charitable to the basket case down the road. We need to be the best team we can be and if that means jumping ahead of the plastics too bad. They can fold or get relocated to to Tassie for all I care.
I don't see why we would want to Gold Coast to fold or be relocated, the Lions need them to be successful to get more kids into the game and develop more supporters and bless the Queensland Government's little cotton socks - build a proper and bigger stadium like WA did. The AFL need to make the Suns successful to understand if the experiment works and not let them die on the vive like the Rugby League teams there.

As a Lions supporter I dont understand the argument for relocating them to Tasmania.

Population of the Gold Coast 569,997 with a growth rate of 1.58%
Populations of South East Queensland 3.6 million

Populations of Hobart 220,000
Population of Launceston 66,000
Population of Tasmania 520,830 with a growth rate of .32%

Tasmanians participating in Australian Rules programs (2017) 19,829
Tasmanians in Australian Rules competitions (2017) 21,938

Queenslanders in Australian Rules competitions (2017) 75,214
Queenslanders in Australian Rules programs (2017) 165,764

Gold Coast AFL area ADDITIONALLY covers all the Northern Rivers of NSW including the towns of Casino, Byron Bay, Lismore, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads

Pretty sure AFL requires each club takes a minimum of 3 selections.

That includes Rookie upgrades.
We have O’Mac and Hinge to be upgraded as well as 1 live pick at this stage.
Unless if both Corey Lyons and Sammy Skinner get put back to the rookie list or not offered a contract?

Those afl involvement stat's for tassie and Queensland are really surprising. Is it driven by the large number of young women getting involved thanks to aflw?

Is there somewhere this is all reported? I'd be keen to see how all the different states stack up for involvement VS my expectation

Pretty sure Noble said 4 draft picks this year. If we have one live pick now three players will be pushed to category A rookie list today. Likely they will be Lyons, Christensen and Skinner.

It took me a while to find it all but yes it is all quoted, in the state AFL Association reports like the AFLQ participation report and other reports like the Sports Industry AU report you will find under footyindustry. All the demographics and population figures are from the Australian sensis. I used to be a marketeer I couldn't help myself.

Well all the above will be why the GC is doing so well.

Hence the unlimited $$$$, hand out emergency packages, priority this, extra that.

Or alternatively, why stats can be used to prove anything.

Maybe you could use your skills to give us the GC's home crowds last season.

Club e-mail just arrived. Interesting.
LIST CHANGES

Sam Skinner, Corey Lyons, Matt Eagles and Archie Smith have been delisted, with the Brisbane Lions committed to retaining them on either their senior or rookie list, dependent on what is available following the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.

General Manager of Football David Noble said the list changes were important to ensure the Club has the best chance of attaining elite talent at the upcoming draft.

“We want to continue to strengthen our list at the upcoming draft, so believe this change is necessary,” Noble said.

“The Club will aim to explore its Academy and father-son options at the upcoming draft, so will require capacity to do so.

“We do intend to recommit the players either on the senior or rookie list following the draft and we will seek permission from the AFL for the players to attend training and meetings as scheduled.

“At his request, we are open to Archie exploring his options as a delisted free agent during this time.”

Eagles has been a Category B Rookie with the Lions since 2016 when he was drafted by the Club via Foxtel’s The Recruit program. In his three years at the Lions the key defender has played in four AFL matches and won two NEAFL premierships. His 2018 season was cut short due to an abdominal/groin injury which later required surgery. Eagles was unable to crack the senior side in 2019.

Sam Skinner was recruited to the Lions at the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. He played his first and only AFL game in the Lions Round 17, 2017 clash against West Coast at Subiaco Oval and kicked one goal. The 22-year-old has had multiple injuries during his time at the Lions but enjoyed an injury-free season with the NEAFL premiership side in 2019, where he produced consistent performances in the forward line.

Corey Lyons is still to make his AFL debut after three seasons with the Lions. The inside midfielder has been prolific at NEAFL level with 2019 his strongest season yet, where he averaged 29 disposals a game.

Archie Smith was recruited to the Lions at the 2013 AFL Rookie Draft and has played 11 senior games in his six years in the Den. In 2019 the ruckman played two AFL games and was an important member of the Lions 2019 NEAFL premiership side.

We new a contracted player had to be delisted to take 4 picks to the draft.

I’m unsure of the rules regarding delisted free agents and the club redrafting them in the rookie draft.

dlanod. Will Lyons, Skinner and Eagles have to nominate for the draft for the club to select them in the rookie draft?

I could genuinely see Lyons picked up by a Richmond or Essendon in the National Draft with a late second or third round pick.

This draft is genuinely short on inside and inside/outside mids. Especially considering the two best will be drafted by Gold Coast, and three of the other better mids are tied to clubs as academy or father son prospects.

I wonder if Archie ends up on the Gold Coast or in Sydney.

Is Archie likely to get some interest from other teams? Give half the league needs a ruck you'd think he might get picked up. Gws in particular is wholly reliant on two mature age rucks
