Dodongo is thinking.

Melbourne want to trade pick 3. GWS want pick 3 so they can get someone before their academy.

We could trade 16, 21, 2020 1st to Melb for Pick 3. Then trade Pick 3 to GWS for pick 6 and their 2020 1st.

Back ourselves in to finish ahead of GWS next year to upgrade our first rounder.

Then Dodongo looks at it and no way Melbourne does that.

Why do Melb and GWS need us for that? They can just do a direct swap - 3 and something for 6 and something.

I think basically we had too many players on 400k that couldn’t get a game

Yeah, but, they're out of contract. Chuck them all on 150 and ask them to stick around. Whatever they're being offered elsewhere (if anything) won't be much.

Using 5 picks in this draft - when we won't have heaps of currency after Ah Chee - seems like overkill.

Edit. just saw the pick swap. Looks like we are lining up 52, 55 and 64 to use as academy points, and we'll only take 16 and 21 to the draft (34 or similar on Ah Chee). That looks like great news - not wasting list spots on super low draft picks (other than 1? academy player)

Do you think the club takes both Coleman and Cumberland now?

I reckon they're tempted, Cumberland has stepped up at the right time and at least come into draft calculations for us.

Martyn has probably done the opposite to Cumberland, seems to be sliding from pole position towards a rookie spot at best.

Cumberland's testing might even see him get a bid earlier than we previously thought which might be why we are striving for points. With Coleman it's harder to predict. He has good NEAFL form but didn't score an invite to the main combine.

So does it look like we might be going after Coleman and Cumberland? Is it possible? Not sure how the points system works tbh if someone doesn’t mind explaining how/if we could get both as well as get Ah Chee.

At a guess, the plan is for one to be drafted under Academy rules with the other being rookied?

I'd like to see Coleman on our list in some capacity, not completely sold on Cumberland but can certainly see his potential.

Just my uneducated opinion.

Coleman possibly in the 35+ to 50 range at the draft.

Cumberland in the 40 to rookie list range.

Cumberland has all the athletic tools to be a good defensive flanker, just needs to improve his skills.

The pick trade is interesting. The things the way they are currently, we'd need to open up an extra list spot for the benefit of 16 points.

Obviously there's likely more to come, but that's just how it stands currently.

Agree. This seems odd. I was expecting we would be grouping picks and trading up not creating more picks ‘to use’.

Likely we’ll ask for future picks for cutler/Taylor if they leave now you’d think.

We have picks 16/21/34/52/55. So need 5 list spots open to use those picks.

We only have hodge out so far but Ellis yolman And Birchall in.

Say 34 for ah chee.

Cutler and Taylor out for future picks.

That’s still 3 out/4 in and 4 picks at the draft requiring 5 further delistings?

There’s still plenty of time to bundle current picks to move back up the draft.

Not that there’s many teams that need picks for father son or academy kids this year.

Might be worth trading some later picks this year for earlier picks next year.

Never thought of Cumberland as a defensive player, he loves to take the game on and is much happier with the ball than without it.

Dodongo definitely sees us get future picks for Taylor and Cutler or package one of those late picks with them to get higher.

The club still want to turn 16 and 21 into a higher pick. Trade in Ah Chee with a 2nd rounder.

So we still could go into the draft with a high pick, and a couple between 30 and 50.

So instead of taking 5 to the draft, we take 4 etc. We will only take 5 if we cant package 16/21 up for higher

I know that Freo was going into this trade period to get back WA lads like Sam Powell-Pepper, Shai Bolton, Callum Ah Chee, Nick Robertson and Blake Acres and Liam Henry, Some of those have been ruled out. I'd be surprised if Nick didn't end up at Freo with a trade that included an exchange of picks.

Without cut pasting the whole thing:
A pair of Brisbane Lions fringe players look set to be on the move with Sydney and Essendon showing interest in Lewis Taylor and Tom Cutler respectively.

Lions football manager David Noble expected deals to be done for the pair closer to the Wednesday deadline of the trade period.

“Both of those guys are [being looked] at [by] clubs that have got a couple of the bigger deals going so we might have to be a little patient with them,” Brisbane football manager David Noble told RSN on Friday.
“Sydney’s shown some interest in ‘Lewy’ and Essendon’s got a little bit of interest in Tom Cutler so it looks like they’re going to play out next week but obviously those two clubs [are] being involved with some of their own mega deals.”

Dodongo notes there is nothing about N Robbo. Dodongo is starting to get excited at the prospect of him staying
