For my team, I really hope there’s no more than 3 weeks between home games (the past few seasons have had a 4 week gap between home games when we’ve played in China), large gaps simply do not work for non-vic teams.

Professional leagues like the NFL, NBA and EPL would be laughing at the fact that we have the same season opener every year whereby the same team is expected to win easily and does win easily.

Don't know why they don't do the following options to open the season:

1) Two big VIC clubs at the MCG who are in finals contention (eg - Rich, Coll, Ess, Haw). Would draw 75K easily in any combo.
2) West Coast versus basically anyone at Optus. Will be sure to pack out.
3) Adelaide versus basically anyone at AO. Will be sure to pack out.
4) Brisbane versus a contender at GABBA. How many entertaining games did we see at the GABBA this year?
The games more competitive than any game you’ve played v Melbourne. In 2018 we were the only team to lead Richmond at the MCG in the 4th quarter it regularly draws 90k while your other options wouldn’t get near that or would be more valuable to the afl on another weekend. Carlton are nearly 20,000 members in front of last year at the same time and its only going to get better. The afl just want to get on board. You’re the kind of supporter that probably said the same thing 10 years ago when Carlton was smashing Richmond and will likely continue to do so once Carlton turns that corner again.

Good. Only team I want to play that fixture against.

Can we bin Carlton - Richmond openers ffs? It's been a shit way to start the season for years. Literally any other fixture please.
As long as it isn’t us I don’t give a shit about who plays on Good Friday.

I'm presuming you either don't have young kids or don't live in a regional area. A 3.20 game on a Sunday looks ok on paper until you realise you have to leave the ground at 6, drive 130km which means you don't get home til after 8 or 8.30pm and then have to try and get kids to bed for school the next morning.
It's no fun at all.

Based off the information you provided I can't imagine that a Sunday 1:10pm game would be much easier.

If it takes 2-2.5 hours to get from the ground home; let's say it takes the same to get there in reverse.

Leaving home at 10:30am-11am (presuming the kids are available and not doing Sunday sport), get to the game-- have to eat lunch because it's lunch time. Then the game finished at approx 4pm and you still aren't home until 6pm-6:30pm. Effectively ruling out the entire day.

Compare that to leaving home after lunch on a Sunday for the 3:20pm game. It must be difficult as a parent you lives in a regional area to get to games.

They travel and people still complain. Sad.

I fondly remember a 3 year period when Collingwood’s travel was variously described as:

- over too soon, giving us too many games in Vic at the end of the season

then next year

- travel came too late, giving us a cushy start to set up our season

then the next year

- travel too evenly spread out over the season

You’ll be surprised to hear that many of the complaints came from the same people.

Collingwood v Essendon Anzac Day will be a 4.40pm AEST start.

And according to The Age, a stand-alone game on Saturday.

Anzac Day will be a twilight game next season.

The traditional match between Collingwood and Essendon will be a standalone Saturday game held on Anzac Day next year compared to other seasons when there were games held in other states and overseas.

Doesn’t make sense, when are the other games to be played? One on Thursday, Rich/Melb on Friday night still leaves 6 other games to be played on Sunday. Can’t be right, surely.

I used to travel 3 and a half hours down quite often on Sundays for the 1:00 and 2:10 Hawk games. Would get home around 10 if I took the V-line. Once the 3:20 games replaced the 2:00 one I haven't been since. Would have to leave the game early if train travel was the mode of transport.
