Dan Mcstay would be handy for us.

Not sure we have the trade capital to make it happen.

Really good mark but terrible shot for goal especially from dead in front 20-30 out incredible really. Played 9 a side against him has a massive tank and presence. He is kind of the Lions Reid in my eyes with more upside. Might be gettable with Daniher and Hipwood in their forward line.

A couple of years probably?

Why do you expect that the second youngest side this year on average should be producing more at this point?

It would want to be inside that. This Rebuild has been going since 2016. This club turned itself around and asked questions of itself and set expectations that did bare fruit. What's wrong with supporters doing the same when they think things should be going better than they are presently and with decisions that have been made and will continue to be regarding recruiting ? They set the bar and now we are a supporter group for a large part that expect results. Going to the draft every year and recruiting 60kg 18 year olds that are hit and miss is not going to build on the potential we currently have to again contend. Getting the right mix of youth and experience along with positional need requirements will. You know what Mase ? At this rate we will be ****ing young forever. Can't continually be the excuse. Having said that it will always be the convenient one for teams who wallow bottom 4. Ted uses Buddy as an excuse and it has merit others think List development and recruiting has been poor. All opinion.

Hey come on.

Arent you forgetting Gray, Brand, Taylor and Thurlow?

Ill see myself out.

No I’m asking what people think is realistic given we supposedly have such a good group of youngsters who love playing for each other and the coach.

Especially when we regressed this year.
Don't think we regressed at all this year, quite the opposite in fact. Started playing a very good brand of football - beaten by teams with both a more mature list, and more of their core intact.
I think it was as an encouraging year as you could possibly hope for given the ladder position.
If Buddy and Rampe are back - and we upgrade Florent's play either through him improving his kicking or one of our draft picks taking his spot we are very much in contention for a finals spot. If Buddy doesn't play - Sinkers and Reid should clunk some more marks next year with Hickey in the team.

Nah but at least stick around to try and understand a little.

There was a bloke named Daniher who upset drafting last year. A lot had to be on hold and prevented much. They only would have banked /gained the difference between low pay to whatever Jones and Papley were on (not much over average) and most of the recruiters time was spend consumed and stuffed around by Dodo!
When the deal fell over (or was just too stupid) they needed to plan just in case he fair dinkum wanted to come this year.

Also they haven't had a fair go yet . I am not super optimistic but give them a fair go this year or they are out.

Agree but somehow Port Adelaide have 3.

Yeah, there is a lot of luck in it though. If Naismith doesn't do his knee again, we probably aren't even having this conversation.

It's one of the reasons I am not convinced Melbourne are going to willingly part ways with their Max Gawn insurance policy.

Ummm, sorry to break it to you but all free agency contracts have the same conditions as Franklin’s contract. It’s just that Franklin was the first and the rule was instigated due to his free agency contact.

Unfortunately the rules don't seem to always apply. Vickerys contract which the Tigers would've matched it they didn't receive a pick in the 20's turned out to be only 2 years, rather than 3. Daniel Wells offer netted North a pick in the 20s and later on he just "decided" to take a pay cut.

Crouchs contract from the Saints has been lodged. 5x $700k/$800k. Awaiting compo details

Getting comp for free agency is the stupidest shit

No team would trade a top pick for mills is my measuring stick. He is a fine defender but above average disposal and sub 20 touches is disappointing for a pick 3.

We drafted him as a midfielder supposedly so either he was never good enough to be a mid or his development was mismanaged

Well he couldn't get a game as a midfielder when we first blooded him into the 22 and with the gradual decline in production and availability of McVeigh and the rest of the veterans (Smith, Grundy) we needed someone with a strong footy IQ to help Rampe in steadying the ship. It wasn't gonna be Aliir or Melican now was it...

Ling was also probably touted to take over the defensive role as Mills would push more in the middle, but as we all know, plans work much better in theory then they do in practicality.

Pretty poor foresight by the coaches then to not get his development right then. We need all the midfield help we can get now.

He is much more needed in the midfield now given it’s the biggest weakness and we have some decent back men.

Plenty of players start in the backline and end up good mids. Mundy and Zac Williams the first that spring to mind

Naismith has played 30 games in 7 years.

If we can get a ruckman who can play 30 games in 2 years, (Hickey).

They're an improvement.

Literally jogging onto the field.
30 games in 8 seasons, if we're counting. Quite possibly 9 seasons if his 2021 is a write-off.

I struggle to think of another player in the league who has delivered less and received more over such a long period.

Daniel Currie played 10 games in 10 seasons

That's a great mention, and he was the first one I thought of. I think he was always on minimal wage though

His name alone is ironic.

I saw him as quite similar to Sean Darcy. Same age too.

Freo have a few of those types - the jury still out on whether they’ll become AFL standard players, but at 22, Meek has upside, something Hickey does not.

Meek is out of contract next year, as is Hayes. I'd be happy for us to take Hickey this year, let Sinclair and/or Naismith retire next year if their bodies are broken, then use our increased trade capital to lure one of them out if they're still not getting games.
